Hi there! Welcome to the Official Free Rider HD Timeline run by TPlacella, the best place to review the history of FRHD, refresh your memory on certain dates, find important threads and most importantly, give access to the game's greatest events and achievements through its 10+ year existence!

This timeline replaces the outdated version by cctvcctvcctv made in 2018. This new timeline now features events from 2021-2025 when cctv's timeline stopped receiving updates. 1/4 of this timeline was done by cctv so praise him for his work in the past. My main goal here is to continue the work of others in the old timeline, fix incorrect dates, add missing information from previous years and most of all, add a wider range of comprehensive sources and information for the community's benefit!

How long did it take you to make this?
~200 hours over 9 months, parts of the Timeline are from cctvcctvcctv's Old Timeline.

How much of the Timeline did you do?
75% of it, cctvcctvcctv's Old Timeline was very basic, only containing featured tracks, major contests and certain events. His Timeline only had one year (2020) split into 2 parts due to 30,000 character limit, this Timeline has all but 4 years (2013, 2014, 2018 and 2025) split into 2 parts, and with 2020 + 2021 split into 3 parts.

What's difference between this and the Old Timeline?
Years 2021-2025 are populated with dates, the Old Timeline stopped being updated mid-2021. Every major game update is included in this version. A significantly larger amount of contests are provided and includes dates of every round/results which the Old Timeline didn't. A comprehensive list of significant threads added. Ghosting related dates now added, the Old Timeline had nothing about Official Featured Ghosts, Ghosting Awards, achievements etc. Trackmaking and ghosting statisitcs added for relevant dates (feature number, earning of a medal or title etc). And just overall, a wider range of important events/dates from every year.

What inspired you to make this Timeline?
I absolutely love researching stuff and learning about the history of many subjects, one of them being video games. Free Rider HD is a unique game, and it's story/progression should be told in full and depth as well as providing information for the community that they may find helpful. I wanted to make something to leave my mark on this game forever, and I feel this thread does that. The legacy of the Old Timeline should live and I strived remake it's glory but on a much wider scale.

When will you stop updating the Timeline?
Never! I'm not leaving this game anytime soon, I love this community and I want to always provide something for them, one of the things being this Timeline. I also enjoy the process of making something this big

Besides adding new things for the current year, what's next for the Timeline?
Not much. Besides moving the Timeline to a new thread where every year is in chronological order, I have completed 95% of what I set out to do from day 1 of making this Timeline. The remaining 5% involves extra trackmaking and ghosting statistics, finding dates for more siginficant events from years ago and a solution to deleted/removed featured tracks (making a thread documenting all of them and deciding the best way to add them to the Timeline). A lot of this stuff involves consulting with experienced players, VIPs and moderators. I don't intend to work on this stuff anytime soon.

Who helped you with the Timeline the most?
cctvcctvcctv for the building blocks for this Timeline from 2013-2021. Pie42 and dantexpress for half of the featured track dates. Elibloodthirst for the majority of normal dates and a lot of trackmaking information. Tubiek for helping with finicky dates/information. Totoca12 for pinning the thread. Shoutout to some of the others who helped since May 2024 (Volund, Eryp, Ness and Cerasium). Also can't forget the 60 others who have contributed to both Timelines.

15-16/03 The biggest wave of hacking in FRHD history occurs. Accounts named NotZenblade, NotChar, howaboutno, NotZenblade3383, 2OOOOO+Points and TrumpNeverDies (including countless more) start to hack people's accounts, abuse game rules and hack leaderboards, getting 0.03, 0.00 and FALSE times on thousands of tracks for hundreds of thousands of points. 8957 of the same "TrumpNeverDies is king" tracks are published all at once somehow on accounts with names such as KingTrump[number], KING[number] and RAPPERJACK[number], some accounts even contained multiple of these tracks instead of one such as NotChar. The tracks are between track ID 696409 and 705365. These tracks would be exploited in the future for grinding points, being only 1.07 seconds long and all in a row. Threads are made here, here, here and here about the whole situation. It is revealed that the hacker had Zenblade's source code for hacks before he deleted it on the 20th of September 2019 and the hacker had access/made other scripts to hack in the ways they did.

An interaction like this has never been seen before, requiring precision when just picking up the powerup and going back to the checkpoint. The discovery is coined "the vehicle glitch".
04/07 Heli Tech by Coated_Badger posted, putting the new vehicle glitch to the test on a new track. It is also discovered that you can get infinite time on a vehicle powerup with the same method clockwe2 used but you don't need a teleport and just a checkpoint. This version of the glitch is much harder to pull off and is almost frame perfect.

Also, Totoca12 mind looking at this, please? I have updated all relevant events and dates of featured tracks up to 2024 whilst adding many missed dates like contests, missing features, certain game/forum updates, important threads and other stuff whilst adding additional information when necessary. Formatting is mostly the same and over half of the timeline is by the work of cctvcctvcctv and other contributors but this timeline is much superior to the previous one even with the years from 2013-2021 with me filling in the gaps of missed dates, adding more background context and even fixing dates (with the help of Tubiek).
Could you please pin this thread and maybe unpin the old one? I've spent a week of almost nonstop work on this and there is still more to go. I'm determined to make this timeline complete with every significant event that's happened in FRHD history whilst adding much more detail on certain dates. Could you also add 'List' prefix? Thanks.

I have also referenced the original timeline as a source and in the timeline for Pie's post about all the community classic tracks featured initially so I'd rather keep both timelines separate for those reasons.

I will set up links to each year as well even if 2013-2024 is all in a row. Once 2025 happens I will make that post and link it from the first post in the thread. In short, I'd like to have this thread pinned. I'm still acknowledging the same contributors from the original timeline too. I just think it's about time we update the timeline and move it to a new and improved thread.

I also fixed the thing about ghosting legend and mR..A, good pick up, I'm usually thorough and correct in my explanations/commentary but that was slightly wrong/made no sense.
