List Official Featured Ghosts

Ok, that's fair criticism. It's annoying me and Eryp a little bit as well. Yeah, I think it was a good idea creating the Auto Cuts category, and although I agree that those ghosts might not need to be 15 seconds long, 2.7 seconds long ghosts might be too short, indeed. We will discuss the situation further and see how it goes.

 

SUPRISE UPDATE:

First of all, as I said, we are aware of the issues with some features (especially auto cuts) being too short, and we will discuss how we will handle the criteria and the exceptions for this kind of ghosts, along with if we need to review again and possibly remove some of the featured ones.

Also, in other news since we only have minor updates on the discussion about TAS, we will hold on this a little bit longer. We are trying to work with mR..A in order to decide a better solution.

As for the update itself, we didn't want to accumulate many ghosts to review so we reviewed the ones we had. There were 22 ghosts reviewed this time. Let's go into it:

Not Features:

From Sharkfin:

https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/729671-revamp/r/charredlizard21 - Way too long, way too many deaths. Your flip sequence in the beginning was kinda what I expected to happen pretty much through the whole track to have a chance to get a feature in a track like this.

Then I saw it was an auto cut and changed to a maybe, and it make me realize how inconsistent was our criteria especially talking about auto cuts. It's a great cut, I almost did with a few tries, but died in the last gravity. Still, since we are going to try to review (especially) auto cuts ghosts in a more strict way, I don't think it should be featured now. It might be as good as some other featured auto cuts (or even better), but we will make the reviews and maybe some changes in the auto cuts section and after that, if we think it deserves to be featured we will announce it.

From Arroww:

It's not everyday that you have a solid trial victory over Anonyymi and mR..A, so we think it's good. But it's not worth a feature in our opinion.
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/729473-my-first-detailed-level/r/Arrows_Alt - Decent flips. You definitely have potential, but we're not convinced yet. Clean flips, but that's pretty much it. For a 15 seconds trickghost, it's not wise to do only 1 trick. You could try to press Z to do at least 1 frontflip. Only backflips. And you did a wheelie only for like 1 second. Definitely in the right path, maybe it had a shot if it was longer, but as how it is, it's a no.

In my review of Arroww's ghost I said that it was an insane tube ghost, and it was really nice that he beat great ghosters like mudkip and Ultraviolet on this and that his 7 deaths made it believable, but not worthy a feature in our opinion. And then, Slayed just slayed this track (sorry, haha) and cut like almost 3 seconds of Arroww's ghost. Really insane! We said when we reviewed Arroww's ghost that a deathless ghost would be worthy a feature here. You had only 2 quick deaths, so it's really close to a feature, but I guess for now it isn't. I know the track is very hard, but since it's under the 15 seconds mark, I guess it should be deathless for an exception. Still an insane ghost, though. Well-done!

Uniior's ghost is great but still can have some improvements in the bike part and also in the heli part, like around the 17 seconds mark and the 20 seconds mark.

Although the cut you guys did was nice, the fact that in a track that has less than 40 seconds BrendanMagill was 23 seconds behind Arroww shows that there is still improvements to do. BrendanMagill's first half could be better, just as Arroww's last half could be improved as well. No feature.

However, how does someone is able to do this on mobile??? Hahaha, insane! If we had Mobile Featured Ghosts this would be one of them. Amazing! It definitely deserved a shoutout, especially since it's a deathless mobile ghost on a trial and you beat many good ghosters.

There are many parts of the track where you could fit some wheelies, but you didn't use it as well as you could. Which is strange, since we can see at the end that you have the control to do it. I guess you were a bit cautious with it. The flips were on point, some of them are hard to get, so this is a really decent suggestion, but I think there's still a bit of work to do. The first half is pretty good. Later when you messed up the half loop and had to do that part of the track again it felt like you lost the flow you had. So much potential, though. Keep trying!

I liked this weekly Ghosting Contest idea, but I think the main thing that this track required was the routing, and although the routing was pretty good, more than half of the ghost is just some single direction helicopter ghosting. No feature.

Stolen Ones:

First of all, I don't know if these ghosts will stand as features for long (at least not all of them), but for now we should report what happened to them. There were a lot of changes in the Auto Cut section, so let's see how it went:

Auto Cuts:

From RedOrBlue:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/8998-transparency/r/redorblue - To keep it short, I beat BrendanMagill, then Kazman beat me, then BrendanMagill took it back, and now RedOrBlue beat us all. Same route, but faster. Might be a "too short to keep" ghost, but for now it's the 26th feature for RedOrBlue.

From Totoca12:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/9007-perfect-moments/r/totoca12 - I beat 3 featured auto cuts in the last few days (which was good because then many people started beating the auto cuts which showed us that probably some of them aren't as strong as we thought), but this one is the only one I was able to keep so far. It was stolen from Whisk. Whisk's ghost had a small mistake, and although I didn't quite was able to complete the track with his route, I figured a slightly different route and beat him on this. 6th feature for me.

From Kazman:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/292666-wheelie/r/kazman - Kazman is one of the newest members on the list and he managed to get on the list by beating 3 existing auto cut features and being able to keep 2 of them. One of them it's this really solid ghost on this track. When the Auto Cut features started, this was my feature, later Pie42 beat me, recently I beat Pie42 back, and then Kazman beat both of us. It's a good ghost, pretty much mastered the route I discovered, so great job! 1st feature for Kazman.

New Features:

Fast Ghosts:

From DblU:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/1116-medevil-bike-ride/r/dblu - DblU pretty much mastered non-spacebarring ghosting. You are insane! Almost 4 minutes with only 1 quick death and 1 other relevant mistake (around 2:50-3:00). It's a classic track and you are like 18 seconds ahead of the second place. It might not be 100% perfect but it's almost 4 minutes long. It's an endurance ride and you did it almost perfectly. It's obviously shorter, but it has less deaths and mistakes than your first 2 features. Also, in the words of Eryp: "This is ridiculous, lol. I've tried this track so many times and it's so infuriating to route and not die. The fact he only died once over 4 mins is insane.". And I agree, it should be featured, so congrats! 3rd feature for DblU

Almost 5 minutes with no checkpoints, it's really nice. 2 relevant mistakes, at the 40 seconds mark and around 4:18 - 4:20, also you did lose some time in some jumps, especially the ones with slow motion, that are very annoying on this track. But since it doesn't have any checkpoints, it's a pretty hard track to complete, even with the fact that the ramps are usually smooth. Also, your confindence here is great, you went smoothly most of the track and even did some backflips in the ghost, including on a part where it says on the track "NO BACKFLIPS", lol. Really nice. Maybe not 100% perfect as well, but only 2 people completed the track in 7 years and it's an almost 5 minute ride without checkpoints, so this is an insane effort, and we think it should be featured. 4th feature for DblU.

From TuttiFruity:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/681049-31-12-2019-lets-race-3/r/tuttifruity - This ghost was suggested by Calculus. This leaderboard is insane. It's a solid climb track with a solid climb ghost in 1st place. Only small mistake for me was in the last jump around the 21 seconds mark. But other than that it was excellent. With a leaderboard like this, it's really crazy how you dominated the track, which is clear when we race your ghost against the other players in the top 10. Really solid stuff. 5th feature for TuttiFruity, which means you should receive the Recognized Ghoster Medal and be the 13th player to receive a medal for ghosting.

From Madara:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/290112-regenerate-rcc/r/madara - Great ghost. Track alternates between trial and smooth jumps, and you nailed the trial part. Cool leaderboard with Sidewalk, tetrationiscool and some others, and although the fact that Sidewalk is 2nd might indicate that the ghosts on that leaderboard aren't that new, the track still seems very hard to do flawless, the trial part seemed annoying and hard to get right and you did amazing on it, and we think the smooth jumps part was good enough. 37th feature for Madara.

From RedOrBlue:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/678574-shambles-fixed/r/redorblue - This one wasn't a suggestion, but I was checking some of the featured tracks and I ended up really liking this ghost and I suggested it to Eryp. Although Anonyymi did the cut around the 16 seconds mark and the truck part faster, we still think it's solid enough, since it's a very tough competition. It's a really fun ghost to watch, since it has some flips and a nice flow, so we really think it should be a feature. It was a borderline between the Vehicle Ghosts and Fast Ghosts categories, since it has about 21 seconds with vehicles and a bit more than 22 seconds with the bike. 27th feature for RedOrBlue

From Anonyymi:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/94801-vulcan-genesis/r/anonyymi - This one wasn't a suggestion either, but I found it the same way as RedOrBlue's ghost above. Another really solid ghost from Anonyymi. The leaderboard is insane, the track is a classic and Anonyymi absolutely dominated it from start to finish. Great flow, great speed, so we found this ghost deserving of a feature. 49th feature for Anonyymi

Vehicle Ghosts:

From Exylies:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/713577-the-underdark/r/exylies - I was really happy to see this. This is something new. A really strong leaderboard in a really cool track with a really good blob ghost competition, haha. You didn't have any major mistakes, and I guess only 2 or 3 slightly slow spots. We really enjoyed, and although it's on your own track we think it's solid enough to be on the list. You dominated everyone on the track and showed great controls with the blob powerup. Blob ghosting isn't something that has high standards yet, but it was the same thing for Helicopter ghosting when it started. We think that this ghost is a very solid start for this type of ghosting, and we are happy to announce not only the first Exylies featured ghost, but also the first non-helicopter vehicle featured ghost! 1st feature for Exylies!

Additional Observations:

1 - Kazman and Exylies entered the list for the first time. Congrats, guys! Well-deserved!
2 - Currently Pie42 and Apocolypse were removed from the list. Come on guys, suggest us some good ghosts of your own.
3 - Again, the list will be under review soon, especially the Auto Cuts section, so there might be changes in the ghosts that are currently featured soon. If that happens, it will be all announced on a similiar update.
4 - mR..A, BrendanMagill still needs his Recognized Ghoster medal and so does TuttiFruity, who recently reached 5 features.

PS: I'll update the list and the stats soon.

 

As I said, we are aiming for more complex Auto Cuts now, so probably not. We will review them again and maybe remove a few ones, so 2 seconds long ghosts like this one will probably don't be admitted on the list anymore.
