List Official Featured Ghosts

UPDATE PART 1 (I legit broke the character limit with one post, rip me):

Hey there, how are you guys doing? I know it's been a while, but it's time for the first big update of the year and it's indeed a big one. We will talk about the ghosts suggested for reviews, about ghosts to be unfeatured, about the creation of a new category for ghosting and more, so it will be a long one. Let's start:

NEW CATEGORY: "Other"

First of all, we would like to talk about the creation of a new category named "Other" (at least for now). We don't want to use this as a justification to feature more ghosts for no reason, but we wanted to make a place to showcase really iconic ghosts that might not exactly fit in the current categories we have. This category will only accept ghosts that are great exceptions to our current criteria for the ghosts, but still have enough merits to be put in the list. Here are the ghosts that will be included in this category and the reasoning behind it:

Despite having over 40k plays, this track by Ness doesn't have many completions (12 counting the hacked time) and it's a track that is not that simple to complete without mistakes, so it was really crazy when Anonyymi got 1st place just joking around and making tricks. I feel like the beginning and the ending are not much of a trickghost and that overall in the track he just used his "failures" as opportunities to make tricks, but it's a dope one for sure. It's not a full trickghost, so we felt like it might not be the ideal category for that ghost to be in it, but it's definitely not a fast ghost, here goes a screenshot of my first try yesterday:

https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/191253-magnum-opus/r/dblu - Moved from Fast Ghosts category, this one is a pretty legendary ghost that was a feature that stayed with his original owner DblU pretty much since it was first featured in the old thread back in 2016. When the new thread started, mR..A asked DblU to improve the ghost for it to stay featured and DblU did it. Years later, he was until on the lead, until Chaos-Fallen beat him last month. In an epic gamer move, DblU beat Chaos-Fallen for half a second on a track over 14 minutes long, lol. Crazy stuff. In the beginning of this year, Stevie.T beat DblU, but his ghost broke. And now Stevie.T beat him again and got the fast ghost featured hold for 4 years by DblU, which was dope. Still, we have to consider that DblU's ghost is entirely non-spacebarred, so this is for sure one of the most legendary non-spacebarred runs ever to be made, so we felt like he still deserves the recognition for this ghost and we will keep the ghost on the list, but in this new category from now on.

https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/682672-skeleton-sea/r/dumptruck - As I said in a previous post, I feel like this might be the best ghost from spruce that I have seen, or at least one of the best in my opinion. It was unfortunate that he didn't see the possibilty of that cut when making the track and the ghost, but we felt like his ghost still deserved some recognition. It was featured before the cut was discovered and it's a very solid job with an impressive endurance and pace. So we would like to refeature this ghost from spruce, and grant him his 2nd feature for now.

https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/3982-3d-bathroom/r/noob - As discussed many times, when talking about iconic featured ghosts, this is it. This was one of the ghosts (or the very single ghost) that pushed the original featured ghosts thread into existence. It was made on a track was never completed before, that had no checkpoints and that still has few completions to this day. Noob didn't just complete the track, he did it with so much style, so many tricks, like it was nothing. But if you analyze the ghost carefully you will see that this isn't a full trickghost. It has some "normal" parts due to the nature of the track, so we felt like it's a similar case to Anonyymi's ghost and should be on this new category for sure. This is probably the oldest featured ghost we have, being one of the 2 remaining ghosts from the old thread (we could count DblU's ghost on Magnum Opus, but he improved at least twice, so it's not the same ghost. The other remaining ghost is unspoken's feature), so it's iconic, and it's still good enough, so we'll keep it feature.

This category will be represented by the color dark grey and won't count for those Ghosting Records like "getting a feature in every category), once it doesn't have a clear set of requirements.

Do you know a ghost that you think that should be in this category? Please give us some cool suggestions if you have any.

PS: As for a_drain's suggestion for mR..A's ghost: https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/188296-w-i-p-free-play/r/mr..a, we decided to not feature this into this category or at all. It's a very dope trickghost, but we feel like it's a bit short, and for a ghost that short it shouldn't lose that much the amount of tricks towards the end, so although it's almost there, we will not feature this ghost. The only reason this ghost could be featured would be as a trickghost, and it's almost there for us, but not quite.

We know there's a few more suggestions, like some that Zycerak made on the thread, but we'll be take a better look on those later.

 

UPDATE PART 2

UNFEATURED GHOSTS:

https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/579066-rage-free/r/cerulean - After some discussion, we decided to unfeature this ghost. Despite the fact that this ghost beat Ultraviolet's existing feature on the track, it shows how much the standards for tube ghosting are increasing. Cerulean was able to beat a ghost that we would consider pretty much perfect from Ultraviolet (very fast, no deaths, in a hard track) by a relatively good amount of time (for a short ghost) and still manage to have a death in it. The ghost is still insane, but we can't have a featured ghost that is shorter than a half of the minimum length for this category and that still has a death in it. Also, since it's that short already, a flwaless ghost could probably be below the 7 seconds mark, and that is too short. So probably no features on this track anymore. Cerulean goes back to 8 features.

Now let's talk about the suggestions we had. Let's see how it went:

We probably shouldn't review it then, but your original post was meant to ask for feedback, and this is a good ghost. The control of the wheelies was great, but you just need some better flow and trick variations. This is decent, but no feature.

An exception for a fast ghost should be fully deserving of a feature, since it would be shorter than 15 seconds. So no feature, even if improved.

We still are going to feature great tube ghosts, as we are doing, but it might be harder to get an exception that short. This is kinda like one of Ultraviolet's features, but in his case the ghost was made with MTB, with I think that made it more challenging. Dope ghost, but we feel like it's a bit short an not crazy or innovative enough for another exception.

Doing similar tricks is a thing, but doing the same ghost in the same track requires no creativity, that is the basic thing for trickghosting. If you remember the track "Im leaving" where we have 3 featured ghosts, it's valid to point out that the 3 featured ghosts there were unique in their own way. mR..A has one ghost that is a full MTB reverse wheelie and another that is a full BMX endo. My ghost is the only one that mixes wheelies and backflips (it has like 8 or 9 in a row at some point) and is featured. All of those ghosts were unique when they were made. Plenty of similar ghosts (especially to mine) where made over the years, but we didn't feature any more ghosts on that track. You ghost here is dope, but it's kinda a cheaper version of mR..A's iconic ghost. It's the same on "Meraki", where mR..A did like 13 backflips in a row. He did this in 2 different accounts and we only feature one of the ghosts. Later, someone made a ghost on the same track with one more backflip, but no other tricks and we didn't feature the ghost. So I feel like we are being somewhat consistent not featuring this one for that.

From Chaos-Fallen:

From Cynic:

It's overall pretty consistent, but since the track is kinda smooth we can't really forgive the mistakes at the 47 and 55 seconds marks. But we feel like the best way we can test how strong this ghost is, is trying to make it a challenge. Let's see if people can beat this and if they don't, maybe we can revisit this. Dope ghost, though.

From DblU:

Still, it's crazy the consistency he can maintain as a non-spacebarrer. His timing for getting the second to last star was very impressive, considering the risk of wasting a full ghost there. Still, it's very impressive, as most of the time it is with ghosts from DblU. But it also has been beaten by the OG dookie77, with a great but still improvable ghost, so no feature.

From DrChill:

Small mistake at the end and since the track is kinda smooth we felt like it wasn't a feature. There were very cool moments, like the beginning, but the mistake at the end made RedOrBlue finish really close, so we feel like this is improvable, so we will put this as a challenge.

Comparing to Calculus ghost, we could see some spots to improve in ethan-enhe's ghost, so let's see if we can get improvements here.

I know that this isn't the fastest possible cut, since I had a run with a different cut where I was a bit ahead of you, close to get that last up gravity, but I just couldn't get it right. But I feel like if it's an exception and we both said maybe, it shouldn't be a feature. Exceptions need to be nearly perfect ghosts that we are sure that deserve to be on the list. Let's put it as a challenge, though. If no one is able to beat it, maybe we reconsider.

It's definitely good, but the climb ghosting standards are very high right now, so it might work better as a challenge.

Sadly, this track is the type of track you'll probably never know how exactly would be the fastest possible ghost. So many variables. Interested to see which improvements some great helicopter ghosters could do here.

It's pretty clear racing all 4 of them together that there's so much to improve on (Stevie.T leads for a while, for example). Sounds like a good challenge, though. You guys did a good job, since the track doesn't flow well, but there's still possible improvements.

From Unknown-Rider:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/727081-apache-i/r/unknown-rider - First of all, for a track as hard as this one, this ghost and time are insane. 9 deaths/restarts in a hard trial, and only one that really ruined the flow (the one around 1:00/1:01). We think that this ghost is incredible, but that death around the 1 minute mark really made it not be a feature for us. Really close, though. Maybe with a few improvements it could be a feature.

Not a feature for us, although I don't think it'll be beaten. The track is kinda popular and many great ghosters tried to beat this recently (like RedOrBlue, Cerulean, spruce) and couldn't. But still, we don't think this is a track to have a featured fast ghost on. But it deserves a shoutout, though, since it's crazy optimized.

From Xverse:

It's a bit longer and it's pretty much impossible to die in the track, so it's a challenge of consistency, control and routing, especially routing. Due to the nature of the track, it's almost impossible to be sure if the route used is the fastest possible, and I think you didn't got it yet, since your ghost has some mistakes. But really interesting suggestion that should for sure be a challenge.

I feel like the extreme difficulty of this makes it possible to overlook the 2 quick mistakes. Especially since it's a ghost over 15 seconds. 15th feature for Cerulean. (PS: It would be cooler if you could do it deathless, though)

I thought before that a sub-40 would have a chance, so I think that this is solid enough. A bit of smooth jumps, yeah. But we think it's very clean and solid, so 2nd feature for DrChill.

From Pie42:

Xverse had a better beginning, but Pie42 had a great and stylish recovery. Really cool. We think it's a feature. Pie42 regains his place on the list and now has 1 feature once again. Congrats!

Yeah, it has like one mistake in the climb, one quick death and some other minor stuff, but this is crazy. An epic ghost that deserves to be featured besides the couple of mistakes. 29th feature for RedOrBlue

I was on the fence because the track is too smooth, but quoting Eryp: "I know you said this one is smooth, which it is, but there's more than enough tricks done that i think RoB compensates for that", which is true. The guy made so many tricks to cut the track, all very well-executed that it made the ghost worth to be on the list for me as well. 30th feature for the legend.

It's so fun to watch and it's also on a track that seems to have potential for great ghosting battles. It doesn't seem to have too many recent ghosts, but spruce's ghost is very cool on its own and I feel like it would be cool to see some new ghosts here as well. Let's see what we can get. 4th feature for spruce.

From we_are_number_one:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/9331-highlands/r/we_are_number_one - This one is nice. We were a bit on the fence but it's a great ghost for sure. If you race it against some other ghosts (other that are remaining on the leaderboard like Sidewalk's, Chaos-Fallen's, RefleTz's, Rhodium's...) you can see that there's a bit of possible improvement in the 10/11 first seconds for this ghost, but it's already very good. We are talking about some of the best ghosters against a non-spacebarred ghost. The last half of the ghost is almost perfect and the track has half a million plays, so that's a great suggestion. After some discussion we decided to feature this one and give we_are_the_number_one his 2nd feature.

From Xverse:
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/764795-tube-maze/r/xverse - This is totally insane. Absurd consistency. We were on the fence due to the deaths, but this is too good. Impressive job! If I'm not mistaken, 1st feature ever for Xverse, so congrats for joining the list!

Trickghosts:

It has one of the best first 8 seconds of any trickghost ever on this game, but it lost a bit of energy in the last half. It still has some flips and wheelies here and there with made it even harder to decide. We have like a 39 seconds ghost with about 22 seconds of good tricks. We know that in order to end the track you would have to ride the final part in a "traditional way", so we could cut 4 or 5 seconds of the part without tricks. Still, the transitions could be slightly better. But we really liked the effort and the first tricks and we wish you had included at least a bit more of them when you were "just completing the track", but we understand that you need some speed for that last jump, so after some discussion we decided that we think this is good enough to be on the list. Congrats on the 5th feature spruce! After a long time, you'll finally get the deserving Recognized Ghoster medal. Congrats!

Auto Cuts:

PS2: It's possible that there is a couple of mistakes in the post since it was a long one. Some ghosts were reviewed recently, but some a bit ago. I checked most of them to see if something changed, but you never know. But I feel like the reviews are pretty accurate with what we think regardless.
