Welcoming all ghosters! Introducing a ranked ghosting system for Free Rider HD that might have some cool rewards!

So as most of you know, or at least I hope most of you know, there's a worldwide leaderboard for Free Rider HD.
All around it's a good way to find out who has played the most tracks on a single account.
Sadly players have had to resort to viewing the top 100 ghosters thread to find out the skill level of the top players that I'm sure most of you know of. But unfortunately that's only updated once a year. And people have complained that non-active players should be excluded from the list.
So I'm here to provide to ghosters a way to accurately show that they are better than others! How great.

The way it works is pretty simple.


HOW TO JOIN?
- You can join the Ranked Ghosters by saying "in" in this thread. From now on you will start with 950 points and will stay in each ranked match each week unless you opt out.


TIMELINE:
Matches will be made with a random generator amongst players from the same rank. One track will be chosen by the Ranked Ghosting Team each week. This will be announced alongside the matches on Friday 8pm BRT/6pm EST/5pm CST/4pm MST/3pm PST/11pm GMT.
You will have 3 days (Friday + weekend for most people) to ghost the track from the moment it is posted.
You’ll then have the next 4 days off throughout the week to prepare and practice for the next match the following weekend.


MATCH RULES:
There will be under no circumstances cheating of any kind allowed. This includes (but is not limited to) TAS, FPS slower, gravity flipper and auto spacebar. What qualifies as a cheat is any external game changing device that changes gameplay to the point where the user has even a slight advantage.
Any users found cheating in their ghosts will be banned permanently from participating in Ranked Ghosting.
You will have 72 hours from the exact moment the track is shared to ghost the track.
Broken ghosts will not result in a DQ unless it's something really sketchy.
Tracks that are pre-existing will obviously have ghosts on them already, so any Ranked ghosters that already have a ghost on the track simply have an advantage.


SPECIAL RULES:
- Any ghosters with history of using cheats MIGHT NOT be allowed to participate. There might be minimal exceptions to this rule, if we find it fair.
- Points can be won from external ghosting contests.


TRACK SELECTION:
The tracks are selected each week by the Ranked Ghosting Team.
This can include, recent tracks, older tracks, and track specifically made for Ranked.
Tracks made specifically for Ranked will sometimes include a chance to win bonus points. If this is so, it will be announced in the Matchmaking post, and in the description of the actual track.

MATCH MAKING:
The match making works by pairing people together in a random way using a program (https://pairs.austincodingacademy.com/). The matches will happen between people from the same ranks, with rare exceptions. Some of those exceptions might happen whenever we have an uneven number of available players for the matchups. Whenever that happens we might have matchups between the lowest placed player on a higher rank against the highest placed player on the rank below, for the ranks that will need that adjustment. We also might need to have a match between a player and the average of the times of the 2 players in the previous match, in some cases. Other exceptions are the challenges (that will be discussed at some point below), some special cases where we feel like the combination of available players might make unfair matches (in those cases we'll figure something out that will be announced before the round starts) and MAYBE some bonus rounds.

SCORING:
You'll start the season with 1000 points.
Anyone joining Ranked Ghosters after the beginning of the season will only be getting 950 points.
We will use an ELO scoring system (similar to Chess), and with this system whoever you are facing, using this calculator (https://www.omnicalculator.com/sports/elo with the K factor set to 100) will determine how many points you will lose/win.
Examples:
if player 1 has 1000 points and player 2 has 1000 points. if each player wins they gain 50 points and the other loses 50.
if player 1 has 1250 points and player 2 has 1000 points. if player 1 wins the match he/she will gain 19 points and the other loses 19.
if player 1 has 1000 points and player 2 has 1250 points. if player 1 wins the match he/she will gain 81 points and the other loses 81.
if player 1 has 1130 points and player 2 has 1090 points. if player 1 wins then he/she will win 44 points. and the other loses 44.
if player 1 has 1090 points and player 2 has 1130 points. if player 1 wins then he/she will win 56 points. and the other loses 56.
and etc...


BREAKS:
- You can opt out of 5 weeks total in the season using a week break. Opting out allows you to not be matched with anyone and you don’t have to ghost the track that week, however you won’t gain any points. On the plus side, you don’t lose points either. You must opt out at least 1 day before the track and matches are announced.

PS: Due to the summer break for some players, we decided to give free breaks to everyone until the beginning of September. You could take breaks without losing any and without any penalties. This isn't available anymore since Week 23.

CHALLENGES:
- You can challenge a player for a match (if he didn't took a break that week) to try to win more points than usual. But if you lose, you are going to lose more points than usual as well. The standard score for this will be gaining/losing extra points than what it was supposed to be. +10 or -10 points for challenges between people from the same rank or 1 rank apart. For 2 ranks apart we have +15/-15, for 3 ranks apart +20/-20, for 4 ranks apart it's +25/-25, for 5 ranks apart it's +30/-30 and for 6 ranks apart it's +35/-35 extra points. Right now, you can use up to 2 challenges for every 10 weeks and you can only challenge people from the same rank or ranks above you. Each player can be challenged 5 times for each 20 rounds passed on ORG and you have to announce your challenge at least one day before the beginning of a match. The player challenged is forced to accept the challenge.

PS: You don't HAVE TO use the challenges, it's totally optional.

THREAD FOR ANNOUNCING CHALLENGES AND BREAKS HERE

ELIMINATION:
- If you don't ghost for 5 matches straight without opting out (using a week break), you'll be removed from the contest.
- Players that get their scores below 601 points and that didn't complete at least 50% of the tracks they signed up for will have 1 round to try to get their scores back over 600 points, and if they can't, they'll be eliminated from the contest without an option to return.

REJOINING:
- You can rejoin the contest at anytime with your previous score if you left by choice. The only thing different is that you will have some breaks deducted, based on how many weeks you missed in the contest. If you missed more than 5 rounds you are probably going to lose some points (to be decided yet, if that ever happens). If you don't want to have the breaks deducted you'll have to start with 950 points and can rejoin just 1 time. Players that got eliminated for not ghosting 5 rounds in a row can rejoin only 1 time as well, with a fresh start (950 points).

TIE BREAKERS:
- If 2 or more players are tied in points, here follows the criteria we'll use to break the tie:
1st - Tracks Played
2nd - Win Percentage
3rd - Highest Score
4th - Current Streak

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- The Ranked Ghosting will be going on hiatus to better promote ghosting contests that happen like the GBC3 this year.
- You can win points from ghosting contests other than this one while the hiatus is happening.
- You may join with only one account, and should let us know which one is it if you have multiple. If you don't, we will assume that you are joining with the one you signed up for the contest.
- The Ranked Ghosting will be broken up into seasons, where the highest ranked ghosters will receive medals and other top ghosters will be compensated with a large amount of coins or something.
- The season will something close to a full year. I'm aware long term planning never goes well since free riders have the shortest attention span of all time but give it a try since there are limited medals available. And maybe if season 1 turns out well there'll be a season 2.
- Remember this was made to be a fun activity you can do to have a fun ghosting race and to act as a more updated list of the top 100 ghosters for active players.
- We've got conversations open. I’m down to answer questions about this if you have any. Especially if I failed to explain something well.
- Add "/r/[username]" to the end of the track link to see your opponent's time if they're not on the leaderboard
- Everyone can join the contest until the end of Week 30. After that we'll stop accepting new players.
- The "Regular Season" of ORG will end on December 6th, at the end of Week 35.
- People won't be allowed to take breaks in the last 5 weeks. We are doing this to prevent players trying to "secure their placement" taking 5 breaks in a row in the end, for example. This would take the fun out of the contest.
- People won't lose 30 points if they don't complete the one of the 5 last tracks. Yeah, you will still be able to be eliminated for the Danger Zone rules and for not ghosting 5 tracks in a row, but you won't lose 30 additional points if you don't complete a track. We are doing this mostly because if someone actually can't ghost a track in the last 5 rounds they won't be punished too harsh for that, since we won't have breaks in the last 5 rounds.
- Challenges will work differently for weeks 31, 32 and 33. To avoid players using challenges just to prevent high placed players of winning or gaining more points, we'll make a limitation in the challenges for those weeks. You will only be able to challenge players from your rank or up to 2 ranks higher.
- Challenges will work differently for weeks 34 and 35 as well. For the same reasons as we said above, we'll limit the challenges to happen only between players in the same rank. If the players are 1 rank apart, we'll allow it as well if the challenge was made by the player with less points and if the difference of points between them isn't higher than 150.

END OF SEASON TOURNAMENT:
We will make an End Of Season Tournament as well. The idea will be to use the last month of the year to make a contest with the top 16 ranked players in the regular season of ORG. It's like a "postseason", something like an ORG Playoffs stage. We will have medals for both the regular season and the End of Season Tournament.

Just as a disclaimer. the scoring system is still being decided for now so the one you're seeing now may not be the same as when the Ranked Ghosting starts.
and just remember that this is for everyone. whether you're good or not. racing against people that are around the same skill level each week is good way to improve.
