    Anyone else play SOMA yet? The most beautiful horror game ever. I don't mean visually. Such a good plot.

    I thought it was scary. Much of it isn't but when you encounter Terry, you'll have a real bad time.

    Just a few hours in, but experiences so far: The mood is incredible, I feel like I'm actually in a world in a way I haven't felt since Skyrim. What they managed to do with the main character and how the story progresses is incredible. I mean it's slow, and I begin to question wwhy I should be scared after 30 minutes of jumping around underwater, which is never good in a horror game (for example Outlast: You don't get to question why it is that you want to get out of the place, the game doesn't let you, you just want it more and more the harder it gets, and that's why it gets more and moore scary when it gets harder.) I also think that I want to find out what's ahead of me, which is not good as well, since the 'horror' in horror games usually comes from not wanting to progress and play further. But yeah, if they can turn this calm, chilled atmosphere that I currently trust suddenly into something really oppressing I'm impressed. I'll just have to play and see.

    The jumping around underwater part shouldn't take you more than a couple minutes at most. You pick up on the themes of the puzzles really quick and everything pretty much stands out. Just follow the lights.

    Well, I completed it.
    It wasn't scary, I don't even think they went for that, tbh. The atmosphere could have been; all of the sound and the visual design especially when you go down to the alpha station. But there were no jumpscares, so I kind of didn't have anything to be scared at.
    But the game's overall atmosphere was so good... They really made me feel like I'm there and that that place could exist.

    Whaaa? Jump scares aren't the only thing to be scared of. Actually IMO they make a horror game lazy and cheap. I thought some parts of it were definitely scary, and once those monsters spotted you, it's pretty much ogre. They're super fast.

    Well what am I supposed to be scared at then? Starting over from a checkpoint? My character sure as hell isn't gonna die.

    You know, I've thought about this. It's cool that they didn't wanna go with the easy option (jumpscares), but I, as a player, didn't really fear for anything. They could've done a system where I, for example, lose some resources if I die so I really fear dying. In Heavy Rain the intensity comes from the fact that your character actually dies, like actually drops out of the story. So you, as a player and as an intepreter of the story lose something concrete. And you know, jumpscares aren't fun, so that's one way to implement that.

    So yeah, they lacked that. Otherwise, game of the year for me.

    I don't really know what resources you expect to lose as you die. You literally carry nothing around except for the Omnitool with Catherine, and briefly the ARK. But idk man, maybe you're into a different type of scare. I'm more for atmosphere and lurking.

    Well add some collectable resources then... Like a part where you need to find some structure gel that's spilled all over a certain place and you lose it if you die to the monster that walks around said place... Make the player want to survive, you know?
