Change Forum Rules Update - promotion of unofficial Free Rider communities

Hey all,

Wanted to drop a quick note around the promotion of / linking to unofficial Free Rider sites.

Since Free Rider 2, Free Rider 3 and Free Rider HD are the only official Free Rider games that have been given permission from the original Free Rider developers.

We have been fairly relaxed in how we have dealt with sites that violate copyright / IP of Free Rider, taking the approach of being clear with players and developers of said sites working with them to find a resolution instead of proceeding with legal options.

We are committed to making Free Rider HD the best Free Rider site ever and are just getting started, if you feel that we are not doing a good job, let us know!

Promoting sites that violate Free Rider copyrights hurts the brand and if we feel that we are unable to reason with players / developers of said sites we will be forced to proceed with legal action.

We have discovered that there have been player(s) continuing to promote unofficial Free Rider sites that violate IP + copyrights of Free Rider through private messages.

I think we have been able to communicate our stance fairly clearly, if not please PM an admin to get an understanding. Whether you see it or not, as you continue to reach out to FRHD players to promote an unofficial / illegal copy of the game you are hurting the Free Rider brand but also your beloved copy of the game. As this is a waste of our time to continue to moderate this type of un-welcomed promotion, if it continues we will be forced proceed to have said illegal copies shut down and taken offline.

The way we have been and continue to handle this situation has been to reason with players, in the end if a few continue to be unreasonable it may ruin it for the rest.

 

Re-bumping this thread as this continues to be an issue and we are trying our best to be as "nice" as possible with this situation but our patience is definitely being tested.

Pulling new players/authors from Free Rider HD to a game that violates Free Rider IP/copyrights not only distracts us as developers but it hurts the Free Rider community as a whole.

Example, less than 1% of the player base uses the forum, if players are actively looking to attract that 1% off of the forum why would we continue to support a forum?

We added the forum for the Free Rider community, if it continues to be used as a vehicle to pull Free Rider players to a game we will have to consider other options because leaving it up to the players in some cases does not seem to be working or having the lasted effect that we are looking for.
