Awards 2023 Free Rider HD Awards

Hello, hello, hello!

Yet another year on FRHD is coming to a close, and as we do, it is time to begin another rendition of the Free Rider HD Awards! This year saw a slight increase in user activity, and to go alongside that, many fantastic tracks and excellent ghosts were made. As such, you Free Riders will have your work cut out for you if you want to choose the best ones!

FAQs and other sundry information will be below the voting categories. This year there are 13 categories to vote in, but you don't have to vote in all 13.

Something interesting that occured this year was the announcement that from now on, the user whose track is voted 'Track of the Year' will receive VIP! So, if anything, if you want to have your say in who should be the next VIP, vote in that category!

Voting system
The voting system this year is the same as the ones used in the 2020-2022 Awards. There are 3 votes per award, and you can rank them 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Your first place vote will get 3 points, your 2nd place vote 2 points, and your 3rd place 1 point.

Example:

Again, you do not have to vote for all 3 users in a certain award, you can just vote for 1 or 2 if you would like.

FAQs
Can I vote for myself? No. The vote will not count if you do. Neither will it count if you vote on an alt-account for yourself.
Where can I go for the best tracks and ghosts? Here and here for the best tracks and ghosts, respectively.
Do I have to vote for each award? No.
Where do I send my votes? In order for your vote to be counted, it must either be PMd to me on forums, or DMd to me on discord, @dantexpress#2646. Votes from anywhere else, including this thread, will not be counted.

If the person who made the best track of 2023 gets VIP, the person who made the best ghost of 2023 should get Ghosting Legend.

It takes more effort to make an amazing featured track than a featured ghost in most cases. A good track stands out more than a good ghost as more people are familiar with trackmaking. Also, best ghost of the year is much more subjective than best track of the year as they are typically less memorable or harder to recognise. For example, Ambition should be in the running for best track, now tell me what the best ghost is this year, you won’t give me an answer straight away. VIP shouldn’t be given out so freely nowadays with all the new rules, there are now more ways to get ghosting legend than normal VIP. So it’s fair to recognise trackmakers more for their achievement than one singular ghost. Besides, most of the people voting have no clue, and as I said before, it’s much easier to identify a good track than a good ghost.

 

In that announcement you were talking about, they specifically said:

I assumed this to mean that whichever track from 2023 that placed the highest in next year's top 100 would be awarded the "Best Track" (and subsequent VIP). However, this thread is saying that it's these awards (different from top 100 voting) that decide that. Could any of the game's higher-ups clarify this?

I might be missing something, but how is malishya not at the top of everyone's most improved? Did they do stuff before this year that I just don't know about?

 

malishya dropped straight gold from his first track gallery of a rotting mind, so his 'improvement' (for lack of a better word) is not as astronomical as wellbelly for example, because malishya has only made 3 tracks, all of which are feats. in a sense he didnt really have anywhere to improve from, aside from minor changes to detail and improving the ride of his tracks. while conversely, someone iike wellebelly or tbh even loge have made great leaps within the past year. use each players first track as a baseline, and see how much better their recent tracks are compared to that intial track. id argue that it is obvious that wellebelly has made a greater improvement. if you want to think of it mathematically, essentially malishya went from 95% (rotting mind) to 98% (steady going numb), but welle went from 1% (dunes of time remastered) to 75% (cent). welle has made a greater leap thus, at that is why i at least think he is the most improved.
