Hi guys! What's up? We are back again.

I couldn't do the Free Rider World Cup at the usual time I hosted it for the past 3 years, but I found myself with some time for the next couple of months since I'm making some changes in my schedule, so I decided to continue the yearly tradition and do another Free Rider World Cup. Yeah, I know that the forums and the game have been kinda dead lately, so this might end up flopping, but since we did have some people voting for this to happen on this poll, I guess I'll try pulling it off. We didn't have any big ghosting contests this year, so let's try to end the year with at least one.
      So here it is:

      FREE RIDER WORLD CUP 6

      Presented by Totoca12

Free Rider World Cup 6 will once again carry the legacy of the contest hosted 2 times by DblU (in 2015 and 2016) and 3 times by me (in 2019, 2020 and 2021). This time, as far as the hosting part goes, I think I'll be doing it on my own, but I'm not fully closed to serious applications for helping with this.
This year I'm not really planning on beating the previous years in terms of prizes and the size of the contest, since that would be pretty hard to beat. The ORG was the biggest ghosting contest ever in many aspects and the Free Rider World Cup 5 and the Ghosting Battle Contest 3 were two of the contests that brought together the greatest amount of insane players ever, so those are some pretty high standards. For me, it seems that many players left the game or are not as active anymore, so this could be viewed as one of the last contests for some players, especially since we are not receiving too much help from Kano with things like this anymore. My goal is just to make a fun contest, even if it doesn't have the best tracks, the all-time best ghosters or the best numbers in terms of the amount of players checking it out. Let's just have some fun and race for around a month. It should be cool.
Also, a fun fact: since the 4th edition we use a format that is similar to the FIFA World Cup (of football/soccer) and this is the first year we actually have a FIFA World Cup happening in the same year as a FRHD World Cup, and it's also happening next month, lol. So it's pretty fitting, haha.

Here are some informations about the contest:

      1. Format/System

Starting with a briefly introduction to the Free Rider World Cup history, in the first Free Rider World Cup we had a Cup System. We had an Elimination Round that reduced the players to 16, and then it would be an Eliminatory Cup system with 1v1 matches between randomly paired players (in the first round, after that there was a "possible predefined path" for each ghoster).

In the second one it was a league system, where each participant that completed a track would get a punctuation based in his placement on the track. The first placed among the players in the contest would get the most points and the punctuation would decrease following each next placement among the people in the contest until it got to 1 point, then everyone else who completed the track would get 1 point. There were 8 rounds.

In the third edition, it was a similar format, following the league system. The only differences were a small variation in the points given to each placement and the number of rounds, that was 10 this time.

In the fourth edition, we had a more complex format, that is kind of a mix between the previous two formats.
For this format it was ideal that we had a number that was multiple of 4. We guessed 16 or 32 would be good. Let's consider 32, since this is the format we are using now (we can adapt to 16 if we don't get enough players, though).
There was an elimination round like the first edition, where 32 players would advance to the next stage. Then the 32 players were seeded in 8 groups of 4 players. In each of those groups there were 3 rounds with 3 1v1 matches, where in each of those matches the players would face a different member from their own groups. Winner gets 3 points, a tie get both of the players 1 point, and losing granted you no points. Not completing the track granted -1 point for the player. The 2 best players out of each group would advance to the Round of 16, and then it would be an Eliminatory Cup system, like the first edition. The only difference is that after the elimination round, all of the players who didn't advance to the next stage would play a "Losers Championship" where all people that lost would face each other in 1v1 (and sometimes 1v1v1) matches. The winner of this championship would get a spot in the 3rd place match in the actual championship against the losers of the Semifinals.

In the fifth edition, we did the exact same format as the fourth edition, as I plan to do with the sixth edition. If we can't get over 32 players to sign up but we have over 16, we can do the same thing, but with only 4 groups of 4 in the group stage and then we wouldn't need a Round of 16 and would go straight to the Quarterfinals. No problem there.

Explaining the format a little bit further, we can see that it has 3 different stages and resembles the FIFA's World Cup of soccer/football.

      Stage 1: Qualifiers

We'll have to see how many players we'll get. The idea here is to reduce that number to 32 players, where we can work better with those numbers. There will be a Qualifiers track (the first one, to be released in November 1st), where all of the contestants will have to race to get the best time possible on there. The players with the 32 best times will advance to the next stage (Group Stage), and the remaining ones will be eliminated. I'll make a track to announce the contest in the game and probably make a banner to show up in the forums to see if we can get some more players, so even if you think you have a great chance of qualifyng, don't forget to try to improve your ghost, because you can't see all of the 32 players in the leaderboard. I'll try to make you guys updated on who's getting eliminated close to the end of the round so you guys aren't caught off guard, but it's a tricky round for sure.

      Stage 2: Group Stage

In the group stage, we will have a seeding process where we will sort the players out in 8 groups of 4 according to the Qualifiers placements. I might be in charge of the seeding process or I might hand it out to someone outside the contest, didn't decide about it yet. But no matter what I'll try to sort it out in the fairest way. There will be 4 pots. The best quarter of players on the Qualifiers in pot 1, then the next quarter in pot 2, then the next in pot 3 and after this one, there's pot 4. Then there will be a draw where we will randomly (using some program, number generator or whatever) put 1 player from each pot in each group.

The groups will consist of 4 players, where there will have 3 matches per player, each one against a different player from the group. Winner of the match (best time out of the 2 players in the match) gains 3 points, loser gets no points. A draw would be hard to happen, but if it happens, 1 point is given for each player. If the player misses the match or fails on making a ghost, he loses 1 point. Then, the best 2 players from each group will advance. If 2 players get tied in points, the player with the lowest combined time (sum of every time from the player's ghosts from the Group Stages) will advance. If it somehow remains tied, the spot goes to the winner of the match between the 2 players. If somehow (really?) it remains tied, the best time from the qualifiers gets the spot. If that's not enough I'll figure something out.

      Stage 3: Knockouts Stage

In the Knockouts Stage we'll have an eliminatory stage with the 16 players that advanced onto the next stage. In the Round of 16, I'll pair those 16 players in 8 matches (see below)* and the winners advance to the next stage, the Quarterfinals. In the Quarterfinals we reduce to 8 players with 4 matches, then there's the Semifinals with 4 players in 2 matches and then Championship Finals with the 2 finalists and the 3rd Place match, that we'll discuss more in a bit.

*In the Round of 16 we'll probably have the matchups lined up like that:

      1st Group A vs 2nd Group B
      1st Group B vs 2nd Group A
      1st Group C vs 2nd Group D
      1st Group D vs 2nd Group C
      1st Group E vs 2nd Group F
      1st Group F vs 2nd Group E
      1st Group G vs 2nd Group H
      1st Group H vs 2nd Group G

      Bonus: Losers Championship

Also there will be a Loser Championship, with every player who was eliminated except the ones that were eliminated in the Qualifiers round, and it will be happening in the same tracks as the next eliminatory rounds will take place (with 2 additional ones). The losers of the group stage will battle in the next round against each other in 1v1 matches for a spot in the next round where they will face the losers of the next knockout stage. This first stage will happen during the Round of 16, and there'll be rounds for the Losers Championship in the Quarterfinals and Semifinals tracks in a parallel way to the main contest. After that, there will still be 6 players in the Losers Championship, so there will be 2 additional quick rounds for that. In the Losers Championship Semifinals there will be two 1v1v1 matches that will reveal the 2 finalists of the Loser Championship Finals. Then the 2 players have a match in another quick round and the winner will gain a spot on the 3rd Place Match against the losers of the Semifinals from the main contest, in an 1v1v1 match for the 3rd place that will happen in the same track as the main Championship Finals*, that will be an 1v1 match with the 2 winners of the Semifinals.

      * This year we did separate the 3rd Place match and the Championship Finals in 2 different rounds due to schedule issues.

Here is something from last year's edition, to help visualize everything:

      This year's spreadsheet:

      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1G84pyjUZ2cDyCcRgqctHpho7Ts9ZHMpi_SnRbtlBFKY/edit#gid=0

      2. Rounds/Deadlines

The rounds will each be 3 days long (unless there's some major complications or changes). The deadlines may vary a little bit because of my own schedule or future complications, but we have an idea to start and close the rounds around 11pm for me (BRT), which would be 8pm CST and 9pm EST, which worked fine last year. This would be around 2am from the next day in the GMT timezone, so you guys could use that as a reference for your own timezone. I'll try to help you guys out with the times as much as we can. In the item 5, you'll see the (possible) calendar for the contest, that has many different time zones included (the ones that mattered the most for us last year). If yours isn't there, let me know and I'll add it there.

      3. Types of Tracks/Trackmakers

I'll be working on some tracks for the contest, and I already know that I'll be getting some help from Cerasium and Apocolypse as well. RadiumRC is probably making a track as well. Still in talks with some other trackmakers. If you want to help with tracks, I can consider every application, but it's not a guarantee that everyone will be accepted. But please let me know. Anyone is welcomed to help in some way, though.. We are aiming for tracks more like they were in the GBB2 and GBC3, and also how most of the tracks were in the FRWC5 as well, with a decent level of difficulty (but nothing like impossible) and with more "bike focused" tracks. Offroad and trials are probably the main focus, but we can have some other kinds of tracks from time to time. Let's see what we can do.

      Final list of trackmakers:

      4. Calendar

So, here is what I came up with for a possible calendar so far. The rounds will be 3 days long. We will also have a full day for the Seeding process, like last time, to decide what are going to be the groups. The idea is the contest to start in November 1st, but let's see if we can make it happen or not. The idea for the would be on December3rd with the results, final post and hopefully prizes coming in the next day. So, here is the calendar:

      7. Participants (93)

PS: If a player shows some suspicious behavior in their ghost we might require some proof from them in order to the player stay in the contest. Depending on the case, the player could be banned from the contest. Confirmed uses of TAS, auto-spacebar programs and FPS slowers are some of the cases that would result in a ban from the contest. Also, you can only join with only 1 account. You can choose the account you are going to use if you have more than one, but if it isn't the one you signed up with you need to tell me about it, otherwise it won't be considered.

      Sponsors

I still have Pro, I might try giving all my coins (not much, though). I guess the ORG sponsors might still have Pro, so I'll ask around to see if we can get something.

      8. Prizes and Medals

      Confirmed Prizes:

We have a pot of over 80k coins. Prizes for the top 3 below:

      1st Place - 25k
      2nd Place - 15k
      3rd Place - 10k

And other prizes for all of the contestants that ghosted at least 1 track

      Medals:

There will be medals for top 3. I'll be using the same image we used for previous years.

      How to join?

We are not accepting new players now. But you just needed to say "in" in the comments below.

After Noob winning the first one, Backtwice winning the second one and Anonyymi winning the 3rd and 4th editions, it was time for mudkip to break the Finnish Dynasty and win the 5th edition.
