I think this is how you get the solution, but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe a smart person can check this.

The chance that one person is not in the top 1% is 99/100. With two people, the chance that they're both not in the top 1% is (99/100)^2. With n people, it's (99/100)^n. The solution is n such that (99/100)^n is just barely less than a half. This can be easily solved using a calculator, a guess, and some narrowing down. I think the answer is between 68 and 70, and it's also a whole number. This is too advanced for me; maybe someone else can figure it out.

i took a 10 question playbuzz test that said "only americans with a PhD got 10/10 on this test" and "if you get 10/10, you have an iq of over 150" (here's the link if you want :p) and i got 10/10! so, now that i know my iq is over 150, i have determined that this is a trick question! you never specified how much the odds increase or how big the group is or anything, the only number given is the 1%, however we can not do anything with that number, so we can not give a specific number as the answer!

The odds of one person having an IQ in the top 1% is always 1%, but the odds of someone in a group having an IQ in the top 1% grows as the group grows. The aim of the question is to determine the size of the group such that there is a greater than 50% chance that at least one person has an IQ in the top 1%. Anyway, I already answered it in a weird way.

Aight I did some digging cuz I was bored. So for simplicity, there's 7 billion people. That makes 70 million in the top 1%. Now, there's two interpretations to the question, one of which tetrationiscool answered above and the other I believe the answer to is 201 but I'm not sure whatsoever. The scenario, to my understanding, is that a random group of an unknown quantity is formed until 2 people in the top 1% are in the group. We are trying to find the group size at which either:

1: 50% of groups have 2 super smart people (minimum)
2: There is a 50% chance that there are at least two super smart people in a group.

Scenario 1. tetrationiscool was correct in finding this. Let's say your you're making an unspecified number of groups until you have 2 smart people in the top 1%. If you keep doing this, you'll find that the answer he found: 68-70 (I didn't bother to check, he seems smart) is around the cutoff point for which half of all groups will have 2 people in the group in the top 1%. In other words, this is the median group size for which the number of groups (with 2 people in the top 1%) above and below the mark is equal.

Scenario 2: Think of it this way. While it is true that half of the groups will be smaller and half will be greater when they get their 2nd smart person, the average size of the greater sized groups will vastly outweigh the smaller ones despite huge groups being very improbable. Given that 70 million people are in the top 1%, you could, in theory, have a group of 6,930,000,001 people without 2 smart people. Very improbable: yes. Possible: yes. As for the half of groups below the 68-70 mark, they only account for groups sized 2-70. Not a lot of people given the possible sizes of groups bigger than 70. To average all of these group sizes you need to divide by the number of groups. If you have enough groups to have at least one of every possible group size that has 2 smart people, that's... probably in the hundred billions of groups if not more that you're dividing by which is why the average will come back down. Keep in mind that still half of these groups have under 70 people which makes for millions of repeated group sizes. In essence, this will find the average group size at which half of the groups will have 2 smart people in the top 1%.

Make sense? :thumbsup:That was probably confusing as I'm not the greatest writer.
Essentially, the first scenario is the median and the second is the average. because of the really big numbers greater than the median, the average will be bigger than 68-70.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is why you gotta be specific with your dam questions.
Lol I'm just playing octo . Everyone have a good day/evening.:p

this IQ test that you took was made by a man called Michael Rogers he has no kind of degree of neurophysiology and just makes quizzes on Playbuzz for fun. Also before in this conversation you were telling us about how inaccurate online tests are and now your telling everyone how high your IQ is because ONE ONLINE TEST told you that.
