      Best way to see if a contest is going on is to just periodically scan the “new posts” to see if someone has started anything.

      “unofficial contests” are ones started by members of the community (like this one) and often have small prizes, smaller # of entries, and are really just for fun.

      “official contests” are ones hosted either by VIP’s, Moderators, or someone with ties to the former two. They happen about 1-2 times a year, have a much larger prize and entry pool, and you get notified at the top of the page that a contest has started.
