Question Vehicle changer power-up

    i like how the heli looks!
    although there seems to be too much color going on in total now imo, because of the all the different colored powerups.
    i do not neccessarily have a better suggestion for fixing it... although maxime kinda toned down the use of shape, and thus making the differences of the powerups only appear by color (read design elements)
    this reduced the "drama" going on, i.o. reduced some of the visual disturbance (imo), without making people confused of what comes next when they hit a powerup.
    i think the whole game now needs to alter the powerups somehow, by either affecting colors, shape or maybe the sizes (proportions of powerups vs rider or lines, seem a little off, eventhough, they always have). all because, in my opinion (again), that there are now to be too many powerups in too many variations.

    also how about implementing the user's individual hat, inside the heli? even if it would show even so slightly, i think that would be nice.

    I understand what you mean by the powerups (kinda). Which is why they were changed to a solid tone vs the latter gradient versions. I honestly don't see them changing to something different. The goal was to make an improvement on FR2 , not CR. I did make a post asking opinions about the subject, a lot of the bhr/cr guys wanted the circles, but that just wasn't something we wanted to adopt. Every time we change the powerups, we have to run through every single track on the server and generate new images, upload them to the cdn, etc, its a colossal pain, and actually costs money to do.

    I can almost guarantee maxime did it the way he did due to coding simplicity. I think you're giving him too much credit on the design aspect (not saying that wasn't in consideration). The code that he stole did not have powerups in the source, as the FR2 version used SVG movieclips etc. Natively canvas can not use svg (especially at the time he stole the code). One thing you have to remember is that you guys got use to the look and feel of the cr powerups, thus defining the game to you. This is why when asking new players (frhd natives), they will pick the current powerups as better. Besides circles, we have yet been given any better alternatives.

    As for colour, I agree, less colour is often better, but I go back and forth on that subject. Also keep in mind Ash is the designer, not me. You guys can always PM Ash and give him suggestions or tag him on design topics. My time is mainly allocated towards development of features, rather than design.

    Again, come up with a whole new powerup look and feel. Design it, create the svgs, and make your case.

    If the community speaks, it will happen. if you build it, they will come..

    As for the head gear in the heli, if you look close, it does.

    If you guys ever want to have a real chat irl on tinychat, it might be more condusive to real conversation. Obviously tone of voice via forums can come off hostile when they are not :)

    Honestly I don't really like the idea of adding in new vehicles. I tried the helicopter out in the offline editor and I think we should just stick with bmx and mtb bikes. It's just my opinion and I think the helicopter looks cool.

    MAL1CIOUS I would agree, but what you may not realize is that the original game, Free Rider 2, (Actually the original was just Free Rider, but who cares?) had lots of vehicles. At first I was against this whole powerup thing, but I now think it is going to be awesome!

    I just really want it to make the helicopter with your current velocity, angle, and angular velocity.

    Yeah, I get what you mean, but honestly, it really complicates things. Not only does it complicate the development, but it will make it very hard to control. I don't think this will happen.

    I don't see how it can possibly complicate development. Angle might be hard, but couldn't you just get the velocity of the rider and make that the velocity of the helicopter? For control, I can see how it would be hard, but it would make a lot more sense to me and I think you could get used to it. Maybe divide the velocity by 5 or something to make it less extreme.

    And I think that you definitely should keep your velocity when switching back into a bike.

    Yeah I see what your saying. We could do that. Its not really complicated, but It was more of a 'simplification of the feature.

    Im going to push out a quick change, implementing what you mean.

    Pushing out some other fixes now.

    Basically I made it so when you turn back into your bike, you retain velocity. As far as velocity when you hit the powerup, that resets.

    Oh, and also: Not sure if this is included in your fixes, but when you hit the powerup when you are the bike, you teleport to the center of the powerup.

    would it do the same for a "back to bike" powerup if you added one?
    If so, you could chain them together to make teleportation!
