How do you make sprites with lines?

 

It depends. I can either make it from a picture reference of a sprite and I look back and forth at the image and see if I can replicate it. Sometimes I do it completely from my head. Buildings are the examples where I always do it out of my head. I have designed a colour pallet that represents all of the shadings from FRHD/CR to match with my shading for sprites. Then each art can take days at a time.
