Lately I've had the itch to host a contest, as well as the itch to see some good a** tracks! I've seen so many great, generational tracks these past few years, and so much potential from these new creators. Every remix contest has been very impactful in the community, even before Free Rider HD, and I've had the pleasure of being involved and competing in many of them! I have been in the Free Rider community for over 13 years, and honestly, I have since lost the passion for opening the editor and making tracks but the love for this game has never left me. So much time has passed but year after year it's amazing to see how strong and resilient this community is. Anyway, if you don't know how the remix contest works, there will be links in a spoiler below to some of the previous contests as well as the rules to this one!
Rules:
The rules of this contest are very simple: When the contest starts, I will give you a track code, and it will be the code of a track that has already been created and posted, a track well renowned. But your task will be to add on from the track and/or make your own twist. There's really no restrictions, as long as you stay within some of the boundaries of the original track. You do not have to keep the same exact ride or theme of the original track, let your creativity flow free and make it your own. You will be given three codes to choose from, and you must choose one of these three codes as a starting point of your entry:
Track only (Only the ride, no grey/scenery)
Bones (The general shape of the track, remnants of the original but not much)
Original track (The whole track, nothing changed or erased)
Like I said before, as long as if there is some aspect of the original track, you'll be good. If you have any questions, the links to the old Remix Contests above will help a bunch (
I really advise you to look at the previous Remix Contests. There are a lot of great reference tracks, and they will give you a good idea of how the contest works). If you're still confused or if you want to have a better understanding of the rules, just ask me.
The only difference in this Remix Contest is that there will be no practice round, when the contest starts, it's go time. There will be a total of 3 rounds, each round lasting 3 weeks. I will try to be as specific as possible for the times that each round starts and each round ends. It's hard to compensate for timezone differences, but I will try to have each round start and end at a time that I am most comfortable with.
Now that we got all of that out of the way, we can get to the good stuff
Judging:
There will be no hints or leaks for any track, as exciting as it is I do want to make it fair for everyone. Each round will be judged by myself and one judge of my choice (so don't ask), both judges will have a score of 30 with the scores being totaled out of 60. Late entries will be accepted for 24 hours after the original due date, but will be deducted 10 points out of the 60 total points.
(
again, late entries are accepted for 24 hours after the due date with a 10 point deduction. 10 points is a lot, but it's better than not getting accepted at all. it may be strict, but it's also fair to the contestants that posted their entries on time)
Score:
The total score of your entry will have 3 categories, and all will have a score out of 10, totaling to a score out of 30 from each judge:
Detail - This track is your own now, it's all you. But the detail, the theme, the whole idea of your track matters. Make it look good, impress me. Show me what you got.
Ride - While you are given the ride for the track already, there is changes and improvements you can make. Make is fun to play.
Execution - This is how well thought out the whole track is. The little stuff matters, the small details and effort you put in will not go unnoticed!
Keep all of these in mind, because they could all make a difference in your total score!
Prizes:
1st place: $75USD
2nd place: $25USD
3rd Place: $15USD
Prizes are for overall placements, not for each round. Any donations/contributions to the contest will be added to the prize pool.
If possible, I will try to get forum medals for this contest as well as coins
Round 1 will start on January 20th 3AM PST (Pacific Standard Time)
