it's gotten awful quiet in here...
is anyone struggling to finish? struggling to continue?
definitely won't push anyone to continue, or do anything outside of what they want to do. but...
if you had motivation at the beginning but got lost in the weeds,
if you didn't have ideas and were waiting for something to plop into your lap,
if you decided the objects were poopy and this contest was too,
if you're giving yourself excuses, if you're finding any reason to go do something else, you aren't lazy.
you are avoidant.
look at the amount of work left to do.
write all the parts of things you'd like to have done for a finished track onto a piece of paper. (i prefer notecards!)
REALISTICALLY (yes be real about it) write down the amount of time it will take to do all the things you want to. be specific. if it says "finish ride", your brain will never latch anything onto that. cut cleanly.
look at how much time you actually will have during the week. compare it to everything that you likely have to do outside of being a free rider addict. eating, showering (hopefully, lol), cleaning, chores, school, work, all factored in. you'll maybe have about 2-3 hours on average to work on something extra per day. no days are built the same, but that's the point. adding up ALL the time until the due date.
is the amount of time to finish more than the amount of time you have? uh oh. time to scale down. add "scale down ___", inserting the thing you've got to rewrite, and slot two hours extra.
the sweet spot is having half of the time you have in totality be how much time it'll take to finish. 2/3rds, max.
why? because if you stress yourself out, you lose about 30% of all time instantly. do some people work well in crunch? sure! you also lose most of your time waiting for crunch.
ouch.
a thing that i also need to do is clean my workspace, make it nice, neat, free of distractions. i need to brush my teeth and floss before working, put on lotion so i don't itch, put my cat out of my room unless he's sleeping, get the air filter going a bit so the outside noise doesn't bother me. LOTS of tiny distractions can add up to lost focus, and therefore lost time. give yourself a good shot at doing anything in your life. this applies to other areas of work, too!
lastly, don't beat yourself up. love yourself. trust your ideas. if a thing doesnt work, great. do it again. dont wait until saturday to realize you hate it. redoing things takes much less time than disliking does.
you guys got it. we can do it, shoot for the moon, etc. you've got seven days
