Been delving back into The Wedding Present and found a track name for octo and his defining characteristic! Despite that it has got a certain beauty to it that I love and I have been listening to it a lot.


This sounds pretty desolate but also pretty beautiful and dreamy, something about it, like its crunch or something sounds really ahead of its time, I was surprised it dropped in 2008

I would listen to this after killing someone. Specifically if, due to legal errors and improper procedures, my case gets thrown out and I get to walk a free man despite my heinous act. I walk out the courtroom with a grin across my face, sun shining, credits start to roll, and this song starts to play

this album is probably one of the very few times pitchfork actually rated an album correctly (justice for donda)

 

Pitchfork ratings are usually really bad lol. Also I don't think the album's nearly as good as her best albums (Folklore, 1989, and Speak Now), but I do think it's a little overhated. For me personally it's maybe a 7, but 5.9 is totally understandable. She can do much better lyrically than what's in the album. I'm ngl I don't think I've ever listened to any full Kanye album. I'm only vaguely familiar with the hits, and based on those I feel like production is actually his strong suit. Lyrically and vocally I haven't been impressed, but at least with lyricism the hit songs generally have weaker lyrics than non-hits because hits usually need to be easy to digest, so I don't think it'd be fair to judge all of his discography based on those hits.
