stuff that i relistened to while making my top 100 chart

really nice song, i kind of disregard the flaming lips now for being corny and dumb and not releasing anything ive liked in a long time but this album is really great, sounds really unique without being too flaming lips-y

chill 60s folk w/ enjoyable instrumentation and nick drakes voice is great
    very beautiful sounding album

kind of a middle ground between the two sides of boris, one being really long drone metal songs and the other being more conventional stoner-y heavy rock, pretty cool result. this album is filled with this sort of thing including the incredibly badass title track (akuma no uta) which i would have put on here but the album version isnt on its own on youtube.
id give my firstborn to get boris on spotify

i hadnt listened to this in a long time and forgot how awesome it is, i love how much noisier it is than their newer output, plus the harsher vocals that show up here add a really unique feel

    simply god tier rnb
i remember when i first started getting into music i found the jai paul leak and listened to the thing a billion times
this is one of the only 2 songs hes officially released lol (i think i heard this was in the gta 5 soundtrack so maybe you heard it) but if you can track down the leak its a whole album of really good stuff

since vampire weekend is a contender for my favorite band and there is a new album of theirs coming out soon it is time for me to give my impressions of the many singles theyve released

    1. unbearably white - i loooooooove this, standout track and honestly up there with my favorite songs of theirs, i think the relative simplicity they seem to be going for on this album relative to the others works really really well here. i do tend to like their lower-energy stuff more and this is a perfect example of it. the instrumentation really works for me here too which was a concern for many vw fans post-rostam. this might be one of my favorite vw songs tbqh

    2. this life - this is pretty good, the energy kind of reminds me of some stuff on contra but it feels like it doesnt really have the flair of contra. im not a huge fan of the sound of the chorus but overall i still like this song pretty well. the thing here is that this is a fine if slightly uninteresting for them song that benefits from being more developed than most of the other singles, so its the second best

    3. sunflower - i like the sound of this a lot and id probably like it even more but it feels a little underdeveloped. its a fun song and i really like the vocal sections but not something i see myself coming back to a lot. i could actually see this being something i really love but it's just not enough to feel like a full song.

    4. big blue - nice but very short, feels like they could have made more out of this as the ending is so abrupt, kind of wish they did since this is nice but its not even 2 minutes man come on. id probably like this more than this life but its so short

    5. 2021 - once again super short probably transitional track but i have a thing for minimal electronic+vocal stuff so this is pretty good for me

    6. harmony hall - this is your lead single? this song? man i was so hyped for this and the intro is nice but then it gets to the chorus and just immensely disappoints me. its not a *bad* song but it just feels kind of corny and i hate those "ooOOOooOoOooOOO"s so much. even now that with the rest of the singles i kind of get what sound theyre going for this still doesnt hit for me at all :/
the intro and the piano part in the middle are good though
link since i cant embed anymore

overall i think it is likely to be my least favorite vampire weekend album, but since their other 3 are like top 50 albums for me thats not too bad and im probably still gonna like it. i will say that it is likely i will have to retract my statement that vw has never made a bad song once this comes out if these are the singles, but we will see, the single pattern does seem to be long song + short song each time so im hoping for a few well-developed solid songs in the full release............... either way this stuff sounds so summer-y theres no chance im not listening to it a billion times once warm weather rolls around

spoilering to hopefully stop the page from becoming more unloadable
    Show Spoiler

just listened to this album for the first time and this song made such an impression on me, chills all the way through
honestly could be an all time favorite depending on how it holds up

this song is pretty cool, i remember catching the end of the shels hype wave when i first got into music but i never rly listened to them until now

my go-to "writing code in a frantic rush to get things done in the middle of the night" music, if theres anything out there better for this purpose i havent found it

ive always appreciated laurel halos weirdo music, this is one of her more approachable songs and almost has a conventionally catchy chorus

for some reason i never really listened to this despite being a fan of andy stott's music for a while, it's good though
