I don’t hate spacebaring or have weird morals, neither does Wano. I think dblu is the one who really is against it, and he is one of if not the best nsb player of all time. Although I consider myself “good” at this game, I don’t really care about spacebaring. There are already people who are so good at it, there is no point. It is better off to just get really good at playing nsb as you will be better than most people who don’t spacebar and you’re playing the og way, which can get you popular, just like me  (you could consider that good or bad). And besides, the way I place my fingers on the keyboard makes it impossible to spacebar, I use the arrow keys with right index finger for “up and down” and my thumb to control “left and right”. Left index finger for “z and r”. Don’t ask me how tf I play frhd like that, I have been using that technique in other games for years, it works for me and for frhd it works really well for nsb smh. Ye, so I don’t spacebar, I have tried it but never competed a ghost with it, I would have to change up my hand positioning on the keyboard and the keys lock up with multiple inputs. Idk anyway, that’s me…

lol yeah I was kind of joking, I just mentioned you two because you are well known for not spacebarring. Also you could totally spacebar with that finger positioning, even though it is a bit weirdo_Oo_O, just spacebar with your thumb. I'm pretty sure Cerulean does that as well, and he's insane . Anyway, idc if you don't spacebar, but I do recommend that people try it, because it really does make so many things in the game easier, allows for thinking time, and allows you to make more precise movements than before.

EDIT: imo, the way I play this game isn't to be the best, it's to get the best ghosts I can, referring to you saying so many people are already so good at spacebarring.

That's a good take on it. Me personally, I wouldn't have cared much if the issue was "fixed" as soon as it was discovered and started gaining in momentum, because it hadn't ever been used. However, if it was changed now, I personally would be extremely pissed off, just because it has been a fundamental method of ghosting for over half of a decade, and without spacebarring, ghosting would never come close to what it is now, just because the reaction time and thinking speed for many technical ghosts is basically impossible without stopping to think about it. The human brain just can't function that quickly. Another thing is the standard for features for go down an insane amount, and all of the technical features would almost certainly never be broken. In my opinion, it's too late to change anything, and honestly, if it was changed, I might not play the game anymore because I know I'll never become as "good" as I am now without the help of spacebarring.

I really hope this doesn't get changed, lol, but I don't think it will because kano doesn't give a shi.t about this game lmao

Why tf will Kano remove spacebar though, although it is utilised in a smart way for ghosting for many years now, it is to just pause the game and, most naive or non-forum players would use it at their will when they want to pause at a moment. Anyway, as you said, Kano doesn’t give a damn about us, but IF this did change, even I will be a bit disappointed even though I don’t spacebar. Ghosting has come SOOOO far in the last few years, whatever it has been, 5 years? But to ruin the technique that made people so good at the game, that in my opinion isn’t really cheating, will ruin the ghosting scene and the people who are one forums. Sure, non spacebarers like me could suddenly get recognised and get more attention and be better than most original spacebarers, but it will be no fun even for us, not seeing the high level of spacebar ghosts and the competition for nsb players would draw people away from frhd. It is too implemented in the games history to remove, and tbh it would never get removed anyway as Kano is lazy and this is just an IF.

I can't believe this thread has more views than all my good threads combined

This thread has 660, meanwhile the aforementioned ones has 515 views combined. This is how controversial this topic is

I've been playing off and on for close to a decade now (canvas rider, fr3, frhd) spacebarring was unintentionally one of the first "core mechanics" I picked up on. loved making trials back then and I realized that if I was struggling with a trick that pausing the game could help. granted at the time I wasn't good enough to do much with it but you get the point lol.
nowadays I very rarely spacebar on any track outside of a more difficult trials track because I literally just don't benefit with it in those scenarios. My proudest ghost (former Haunted Mansion WR) was not spacebarred. I paused once near the end of the run to calm my nerves but not for any sort of trick or anything. I wouldn't have been faster if I did spacebar for a track like that. With what I play nowadays, I stereotypically "spacebar" 1 in maybe 25-35 tracks I play. almost everything else is pauseless or has maybe 1-2 pauses for a single trick somewhere.
For me it's too integrated a mechanic for it to REALLY be cheating. dishonest? I could agree with that. but there's both merit to spacebarring players/ghosts and non spacebarring players/ghosts. In my eyes you can have both. Unfortunately spacebarring players tend to overshadow the non spacebarring players as they're more successful on most tracks and there's no tried and true way to distinguish from the two just by watching the ghosts. That being said I have massive respect for the top players on both ends as both take immense skill and dedication.
This is ofc my view as a long time player who does not spacebar often nowadays :) (I voted "No" on the poll, take that as you will)
