Hello! It's been quite some time (well, not really),
I am not particularly proud of how my last contest ended. Most of it was due to how I managed it, especially being at a time in my life where I wasn't truly ready to commit myself to such a project. I definitely got way too ambitious, and I will admit I was not ready for it. Nonetheless, I can't just forget it and I still plan to compensate the winners, even if it's been so long, they still deserve something for what they were promised from me. But that's for another day, let's get this new contest started!
Welcome to my Multi-Box Contest!
If this contest seems familiar to you then you know that in the past I have hosted a few Box Contests in the past, and they were, without a shadow of doubt, my most popular contests. It is also very relative to a contest that has been hosted recently from
Elibloodthirst, his
Miniature Circle contest. That contest really sparked my interest in hosting another one of my own, seeing the success of another contest with a very simplistic setting, rather than a more complex contest with multiple rounds spanning for months.
I had the idea of the "Multi-box Contest" years ago, shortly after my last Box Contest, but instead I got too ahead of myself and tried hosting a contest that required much more time. A contest the required way too much commitment for anyone, for it to be worth it at all. So this time, I want to just keep it simple & sweet.
There is not a whole lot of rules and guidelines, it's really just how it sounds. But to get a good idea of it, everything you need to know will be below.
The whole point of this contest is to make a track "in a box", literally. The only difference with this contest is that there are multiple boxes and you will have to decide how you use each box.
The only rules and restrictions you have are (the more 'strict' rules will be highlighted):
-You must use the code that I will be providing below
-Under no circumstance will you be able to change the size or shape of the boxes, it's the whole point of the contest. What I'm basically saying is, that the code I'm giving you is the code you must use. Using outside tools to move the boxes around is allowed, as long as they are not changed in size or shape.
-While changing where the boxes are placed is allowed, they cannot be overlapped or combined. You also cannot rotate the boxes, as this would be changing the "shape" of the boxes.
-Anything regarding changing where the rider starts and whichever box you want to start is up to you, if you know how to use the tools then you are free to use them how you want
-If you don't want the box to interfere with the track you are allowed to make them scenery lines
-Relating to the rules above,
anything you make outside of the boxes will not have any influence on the scoring of the track. If you want to draw something outside of the boxes feel free, but it will not have either a positive or negative effect on your scoring
-Other than that, you are free to make whatever you want in the boxes you are provided. There isn't a specific theme or anything, so just do whatever you want!
UPDATED RULE: You will be allowed to delete one of the outer boxes, as long as it's not the center box. This will come with a -2 point deduction to your overall score.
So now we will get to the scoring, and what you will be judged for in this contest.
The scoring will be comprised of three different things:
The Ride: A total of 10 points.
The Detail: A total of 10 points.
The Storytelling: A total of 5 points.
1st, The Ride - No good track is truly appreciated without a good ride. Make a track that is good. For some, it could mean something smooth and easy or for some impossibly difficult. Like I said above, make whatever you want, but make sure it fits your track and has something enjoyable for everyone.
2nd, The Detail - It doesn't matter how good or bad you think you are at detailing, at least put some effort into it. Really push yourself to make something great. Look to others for some inspiration, ask for ideas, it doesn't really matter, just try your hardest to make it look good.
3rd, The Story - This will have a part in the scoring, but you shouldn't put your main focus into it, which is why it will not be scored like the ride and detailing. I really do appreciate some good storytelling in a track, and some of my favorite tracks have had an amazing story, but when it all comes down to it for any track, everything else come first for me. Every track should have a meaning and story of course, but as long there's a good track to go with it.
To break it down:
Ride will be scored from 0-10 points
Detail will be scored 0-10 points
Story will be scored 0-5 points
And your total score will be from 0 to 25 points.
I hope that makes enough sense. If not, and if you have any other questions, I oblige you to ask.
Coated_Badger and myself will both be the only judges for this contest. Being both active and contributing members within this community for years, and having fully explored the different aspects of this game such as trials, heavily detailed tracks, autos, etc... I trust myself and
Coated_Badger to be very exceptional judges. I will make sure that every track is respected and judged fairly.
Now, for the prizes. The good stuff.
The official winner of the contest will receive $40
2nd place $25
3rd place $10
