If your work looks like lolz666, that's a good thing, not a bad thing.
People seem to be very caught up on people copying other peoples' styles, but copying isn't a bad thing. Sure, if you make a track completely identical to another track, that isn't good, but if you look at a track and say, "Wow! This detail is really great! I want to make a track that looks like that" that's a great thing.
Make a track how you think you should make it. It doesn't matter who's style it is or who's track it is like. It is still your track, and I am happy for people that work hard to put good detail in their track, no matter who's detail it looks like.

Im obviously far off of being a 'top' author, but here is how I do clouds Cryogenic
      Stage 1: Top of cloud
      upload_2015-11-25_18-17-24.png
This (for me) is where the main shape of the cloud is created. You can make it random and bumpy, small and smooth etc. You have a lot of freedom with clouds bcoz there is no set shape to them, although there is almost a stereotypical cloud in this game I find. Use the snap tool and just make a bunch of small circles like so:
      upload_2015-11-25_18-20-16.png
Keep up a random selection of circle sizes, so that it doesnt look repetitive and monotonous: You wont ever find that in a cloud.
      Stage 2: Bottom of cloud
You can do all sorts of bottoms for your cloud; from just a flat line, to just kind of repeating what you have done on the top, to a mixture of straightness and some circles. Here are my examples of them if you dont understand:
      Flat line:
      upload_2015-11-25_18-24-0.png
      Circles:
      upload_2015-11-25_18-26-24.png
      Mixture of both:
      upload_2015-11-25_18-27-44.png

I personally use the 2nd method, as I feel it looks better.
Stage 3: Shading, adding more clouds
I personally rarely if ever shade, so I wont give any tips on that front. However, I have lately been adding in some more clouds to the center of the cloud, like so:
      upload_2015-11-25_18-38-36.png
      I hoped this helped!

Wow thanks so much. You may catch me making clouds that look like this style, but trust me once I get the hang of it I will branch off and try to add my own twist to it.

      Well it's a start :D

P.S. Sorry spruce I'm not going to use your cloud. I really want this track to be all me :)

I strongly disagree, putting on a habit of recreating other people's work, isn't only demoralizing for the original creator. It will also make you unable to think creativily with your tracks, as you have already set out on following a template, and not fundamenting it on your own perspective, skill and ideas. I don't know one good author who appreciates people replicating their style.
Branching off, from all I've seen in this game, just ends up being replicas of not only one, but multiple authors' detail- styles. These people are forever stuck with their "nature tracks", because they do not have anything from any other theme to replicate from (most likely because this is what lolz666 likes to do, if he did a city track once, there would suddenly be a lot more city tracks etc). Some will replicate extremely well, and some wont, but both will always fall short to sentences like "look too much like..." "obviously inspired by..." and not really end up getting the reckognition like the original creator, that inspired them to replicate to begin with.
What separates the better authors from "the replicants", is that they are always able to create tracks of a high quality, with different styles and themes everytime. If you want to be really good, don't replicate. Start at the bottom, and create your own way. Like WyattStonhouse.

PS! Don't get so caught up in making your detail "as sick as possible", spending hours on a singular tree, rock or character. This is not a success story of a good track. These tracks will at best end up as NTBF's. Draw your thing, could you make it better? yes, you could. but you can re-do it until the end of time. But how much time are you willing to sacrifice, that ends up affecting the end result?
If you have fun making your own track, basing it on your own ideas, while being able to settle with the fact that you're not lolz666 yet, you will become good. In fact you will progress faster this way, than just replicating everything that has already been done before.

Stig I see what you're saying, and actually I agree with a lot of it, but not all of it.
If you can come up with your own style, that's awesome. The thing is, it's really hard to come up with your own style without inspiration. If you try to not pay any attention to anyone else's track and just try to make your own, it's not going to be very good (unless you have a lot of experience or are insanely talented). I would never make good tracks if I did not have examples of good tracks to base mine off from.
That being said. I know what you mean about how it can become the same track over and over again, but that would be if you tried too hard to make your detail exactly the as the track that inspired you. There's a difference between copying someone and being inspired by them.

I guess I am partly basing my opinion off of something that has never happened, which is a really bad idea, but I can see it happening. (It sort of happened to me once, but not really)
Someone could make a track and put a lot of work into it, and then be criticized because it looks too similar to another author that the creator had never even heard of. I guess you should just do your best, and if it ends up looking like lolz666, don't worry.

with my detail, i know compared to most of the people commenting here its not exactly up to par with you guys, but one thing i agree with is being original, sure i did a lot of messing around and finding a style that suits me, and im still looking for one, but for example if i was shown an iTzChuckNorris or LucJohnson track without being told it was them, i would know. i want that for me, and i think its a great idea for all of the good track creators to have a style like that, there arent a whole lot of good authors, so i think there are styles yet to be discovered and used, if you mess around with ideas and creativity, it will lead you to a style that you want to use, and keep using, then people will know you by that style:) but what do i know, i havent made a good track in a year :p
