hi ! i thought it could be interesting to discuss different settings people use in the editor, and why they use a particular set up. it's a topic that's come up briefly every now and again with a variety of players of varying skill level, so i think it could both be interesting and helpful to discuss pros and cons of different set ups
this is how i've drawn in the editor since it was updated all those years ago (lol):
> camera lock: on
reasoning: i draw at around 600%-800% zoom for the majority of the time, as it gives me the most amount of control when drawing. as such, i need the screen to be stable when zoomed in so much. i dont like moving the screen unless i have finished drawing in a particular section, so that i have a feel for whether i need to redo my drawing or not. it also feels more like drawing on paper, so it's a little more natural-feeling to me
> brush length: lowest possible setting // brush trail speed: highest possible setting
reasoning: admittedly i dont use brush very much anymore, if at all really. but when i do/did, i found these settings to be most optimal and comfortable for drawing brush-y stuff like leaves, clouds etc. with that being said, i think having brush trail speed at the lowest possible setting gives the player a lot more control and better results. the problem is having the patience for it. note that i've never used a drawing pad etc, i imagine this setting will be highly different depending on whether you use a mouse or not
> right click camera move: on
reasoning: ease of use more than anything else. means that i can draw and erase without having to click the camera setting every so often
> grid size: 5
when using grid to draw architecture, size 5 is simply the best. it gives you a lot more opportunity to draw interesting, symmetrical and even shapes than in size 10. i dont bother with size 2 as i find the drawing crosshair is way too big for the tiny grid squares, and i occasionally use higher sizes to count out areas for map size
> polygon's mod: everything unchecked
i use polygon's mod when drawing for one sole reason; holding control and shift snaps the lines to be perfectly straight, and counts for you how long your lines are. this has been a life saver when drawing architecture, i used to count pixels and grid squares where now i have the software do it for me :' ) highly recommend installing for this feature alone, let alone everything else. the accurate eraser setting could be worthwhile testing, but i havent felt the need to thus far
so yeah, this is more or less how my editor has been set up for ~8 years ! feel free to post your own settings and why you have them the way you do, or ask other people how they set up the editor. even though there is not heaps of room for custom settings in the editor, ive found that everyone has their own quirks in one way or another. perhaps reading people's reasoning for certain settings, will help someone improve how they draw a particular way
