Being trans is a choice. Transgender people obviously don't choose the mental illness that causes them to believe they aren't something they scientifically are but everything else about being transgender (IE the identification, transitioning, etc) is a choice.

I literally didn't say anything that differs from what you just said apart from my opening statement, which regards the lifestyle. The mental illness itself isn't a choice but the lifestyle and transitioning is. That's what I said. That's what you said.

well they thought homosexuality was a mental illness at first too, didn't they?
i'm not arguing either side because we're only researching it just now and we genuinely don't know, but i don't think it's hurting anybody. we'll see how it pans out with more research but i would play it safe and not call trans people ill just yet

Not trying to demonize these people, I'm just arguing that we're taking the wrong approach in dealing with them. Be like telling someone like myself who struggles with anxiety that it's perfectly okay to worry about nothing & that it's society's fault for stigmatizing these feelings
