Ok I have suggestion on main points to base a decision off of:
    - Author either has to have epic ride or epic detail(don't exclude simplistic detail).
    - Author has to have made a fair amount of these tracks(3 or more maybe).
    - Think about how the community will react if author was to receive this title? If author is undeserving people are bound to point it out.
    - Does author show improvement and progression?
Also ask for official author feedback, don't listen to opinions but rather posts which gives reason on whether or not individual is deserving. Yep that's all I can think of.

Like I said before, I think VIP is a baaaad idea. but here is my opinion on your points
-It seems to me that to get such high standard of VIP you would have to have both
-Probably a good idea... but not copied tracks!
-another reason for my 1st point
    -Probably a good standard
arent those two things just the same thing. wether or not I think he is deserving will be due to my opinion

Well, to what I think VIPs should be definitely capped at a high standard.

We need VIPs imo, it gives something everyone can aim for since official author isn't hard to get.

Opinion is simply saying, " I think he/she should be classic author". What I'm saying is, "I think he/she should be classic author because..."
Also the reason for high standards is for distinguishing the people whose tracks go above and beyond the majority. Official author promotion caused some controversy but that was because of the confusion in what official author was meant be, most took it as VIP status.

And don't give the slots away off the bat to people. Give it time, if you give all the good authors the title straight away then it would blow.

For VIPs you shouldn't look at ratings and plays to decide who should get the ranking. I'd say to start off we should decide on like 4 VIPs by discussing it in a thread and posting reasons why certain people should or shouldn't get the title. Then when you have those 4 VIPs I think it would be a good idea to let those players nominate players for the rank and then discuss with the other VIPs and official authors if that player should or shouldn't get the title (I don't mean that everyone should nominate like 10 players I mean that every once in a while someone could start a thread saying I think '...' should become a VIP, who agrees and who doesn't?). I think discussing it would be the best way to start and then maybe later give the rank away to contest winners or something like that. Maybe you could give the rank to the player who submits the best campaign track when you guys host a new campaign contest or something like that?

Would be pretty simple to me. Some ideas for VIP criteria if this goes through:

    • Someone who shows exceptional skill in trackmaking (defined as exceptional detail and/or actual ride of the track).
    • An active and productive member of the community
    • Has more than 3-4 tracks
Obviously the exceptional skill in trackmaking bit is subjective, but that's why I think multiple people in authority should be able to choose (other VIPs, and staff). Having a pro or VIP status is one of the reasons we have so many great people making tracks now, provides motivation.

I like the idea of Official and Classic Authors but I think their should be more. And when I say more I mean more ranks or more promotions. But this is for a later time so don't worry about it now Eric

Hmm.. I think the former Canvas Rider VIPs should get promoted to VIP here.:p hehe just kidding
But in all honesty, having an exclusive group for very talented members is the best idea. It worked very well for CR because I tried my hardest to become a VIP, although CR didn't have any real good incentives to be a VIP besides the orange name and title. People need to have something to be motivated to achieve.

Eric, have you thought about making an official contest? The winners of the contest could get VIP, and keep having a different theme contest every few months, it worked out very well for Canvas Rider imo

Max007x Forlorn333 jaketocake I think VIP or Pro would be a good rank, but not at this stage of the community!" I would guess that at least half of the active forum members are "official"

I say Lets wait until FRHD comes out of beta...

Seems like I'm late to the party, as always. Just going to throw in my thoughts.

Pro/VIP status sounds like a good idea to me, as long as the majority of the community (I guess mainly just the Official authors) can agree that this individual deserves the status. As both Forlorn333 and Maple defined above, a VIP shouldn't just be an author who made something pretty and then disappears for 6 months - they should be an active member of the community who loves to share their creativity in track design and detail with the rest of the community. I personally do not like the name "VIP" or "Pro", however, as it gives a negative connotation towards the title. A VIP should be more of a mentor - someone to look up to. A patriarch/matriarch of the community, if you will. Hopefully we can leave the title up for discussion?

Having a monthly/bi-monthly contest open to all members of the community would be a great way to narrow down eligible authors for the VIP title. However, I do not think just having an admin post a thread in the contest section would be very effective. Eric and Char , is there possibly a way where you could "advertise" contests on the actual page where the FRHD game is played? For example, a "Contests" tab beneath the "Leaderboards" tab. That way you could raise awareness about the contest, and also have the entries for the contests publicly displayed to the fresh eyes of the newer members of the community. This way we eliminate the biased views of the forum community.
After a few weeks of the newer community playing and rating the contest entries, we (the official authors and devs) can choose the top 3 or 5 and vote based on who we believe deserves the status. I believe the admins should have the final say, of course.

Feel free to comment/criticize my suggestions. I would love to hear your opinions.

like I said, I think the FRHD community is not ready for VIP yet.

I do like your paragraph (underlined) though
