from what I understand it is a mental/psychiatric disorder that is difficult to treat. Due to severe punish many people who have pedophilia/similar urges to that of a pedophile, do not seek treatment. Lowering the punishment, changing the social view/educating people about pedophilia somewhat and focusing more on aiding them in controlling their urges would reduce the amount of pedophiles impacting society and overall help them. They are people too, after all.

 

I am not encouraging/supporting pedophilia, I am trying to help people who have it and those who may be affected by it.

 

'aiding them to control their urges'? We're dealing with something very serious here, it's not just downloading content and viewing stuff, it's also people who have physically done it themselves. It's also something much more serious than just normal psychiatric help they need, as one slip, one bad day, could ruin some innocent human's life! You really can't deal with these things lightly.

 

Pedophile is a general term that covers all persons who are attracted towards prepubescent children. It does not mean they have acted upon their urges, it just means that they have those urges. Those who do act upon their urges have done something heinous, but that is somewhat beyond their control. My point is that the perception of pedophiles (general term; people who experience sexual attraction towards children) should change, and that they should not be treated as harshly as they are currently. My previous argument was worded somewhat inaccurately. I agree that they should be punished. It is a disgusting thing to do, but as pedophiles have varying control over their desires, the punishment should consider the severity of the crime, their current mental state (e.g. strength of desire, although this would be hard to solidify) and what they have done to combat their desires. This last point is dependable on how society views pedophiles. They should not all be viewed as 'child molesting monsters', but people with a devastating mental disorder that can severely damage someone's life (be it the victim or person committing the act) that need some sort of help. If we do not change our view on pedophiles, many will not try to find help as many of them will keep repressing their feelings, which will make their impulses more destructive.

The point of a suicide hotline can vary. It isn’t just to cheer someone up, it can also be to talk to the person for as long as possible until someone arrives to prevent them from committing suicide, although I could be wrong.

 

I thought suicide hotlines were to convince people to do it. Guess I’ve been doing my job wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You're talking about the type of conditional disease that is so confusing and daunting that we've really haven't heard of it before at the time when we went to school (which is coming up). Just make a fashionable track related to pedophilia to help us understand it better and unconditionally.
