with each revisit of the track since its release, I appreciate more and more the creative ride and cool tech detail. it's a fun track with highlights that have stood the test of time (eclipsing the sun is still epic), the exploring/puzzle aspect is well done and gives it lots of replayabililty (and led to some wild shortcuts). while there is some cool detail, the consistency is lacking. but the ride is fun enough to overlook that and I think it deserves the feature.

really visually appealing and cohesive track, feels like the first wind waker/ponyo sort of track which i love ! i have no idea what to make of the ride, however; i feel like it doesnt work at all, and the ghost i have done (courtesy of following erik) i dont think is the intended path through the track. will write more later once ive dug into it a bit more, as of rn idk what to vote :s

edit; have really played the track through now, having tried to finish the track the way it's intended, with mtb and through erikerikson's method, and am currently only one of 7 (not including nas) who has finished. my vote is no, purely because of the ride. as ive written above and elsewhere, the visuals are stunning and i really love the concept of the track. A+ in that department. but the track is unplayable and there's no reason for it to be this bad. ive imported the track to play around and it looks like the ride is made up largely with the curve line tool, which i think is the main culprit for the ride being this bad. please please please, for future reference - stay away from the curve line tool when crafting the ride, it's super glitchy and unreliable compared to the straight line tool! unfortunately, it's so unplayable i cant give anymore cc than this - i have no idea how it's intended to play because it simply doesnt work. which is a shame, because it looks like itd be a blast to play otherwise

This is someone who knows what they're doing. It's a crazy style, not one I would put my mind to if I say nasrani. However I gotta say this creativity has to be rewarded.

The walls, lighthouse and clouds are phenomenal. It's the generic waves that I see that I'm like oh wow but I think it's part of the stylisation.

Am mid riding so will edit opinion as go, currently quite meh with ride. Leaning towards yes

I love the style, visuals, and creative design of it all. I love the scale accompanying it and also just how effortless, effective it looks. The ride is extremely painful, and for the level of detail, it's not really excusable. I feel like a more consistent ride is very manageable here so there's a lack of refinement given the context(since I don't think how the ride rides is super intentional). The art direction really carries it for me and I value it more than ride in this case. I don't see this as a ride-oriented track so I wouldn't judge it as if its ride were the breadwinner/focal point here by putting as much weight/emphasis on it compared to the art, aesthetics, and environment-building. I think it just could've been even more epic had the ride been more consistent.

i can understand featuring from the standpoint of "this is a really cool and unique way to use the editor", but that alone is not enough for me to support featuring it. the only other featured track i can think of thats kind of tech-demo-y like this is seasnail's calculator, and i think that track uses editor tech in a much more compelling way than this one does
that being said my inner nerd still wants to feature it cuz using the free rider editor as a means of science communication is pretty cool... the only other tracks that do that effectively are braw and p0pcorn's tracks that relate to climate change
ultimately im a no but the track is unique enough that i wouldnt complain about a feature

Have to agree with Maple here. Love what Seasnails does, I think he's by far one of the most interesting and unique players on the site. And whilst this is really cool as an educational resource/as a spectacle, as a free rider track... it's boring lol. Or rather, it's a boring track; you fly right for 30+ minutes, with the odd planet in between you and the star. There's nothing here that suggests it should be featured imo. Comparing it to his Computer track (which i feel is the only appropriate comparison for a track like this to be featured), it:
> lacks replayability/lacks any reason to look through after youve done it once
> is not as interesting as a concept (subjective ofc; but, imo, using the teleporters to create a calculator is much more novel than counting pixels and going right)
would also like to see why ppl would want this featured, as im also confused as to why ppl would vote yes. it's absolutely a cool spectacle, but i dont see why it should be featured

in light of Bay of Biscay being featured, i thought it a good time to revisit this track. the main (if not, only) reason why this was voted no was because the ride was broken. given that BoB was featured regardless, wanted to see if this perspective has changed or not, as:

- both BoB and SD have broken rides, which have only been beaten by a handful of people;
- the art on both is similarly spectacular, featuring a unique and cohesive style

Yeah, I think it's a reasonable comparison, they got similar qualities. In my head I usually view it as(w/o considering detail, art here): a long good ride > good ride > a ride > bad ride >= broken ride that otherwise rides good or is average > broken and bad.

I also think in this case there isn't such a hard distinction between BoB(bad ride) and SD(broken ride). I can kind of see how the broken ride(since it's still completable) is like the equivalent of a bad ride; playing through a track only to be suddenly met by a ridiculously hard/inappropriate obstacle, it just ruins the experience much like a bad ride. You could also argue a ride is so bad it's essentially broken and in that case I don't know which is worse.

I also think this not being featured was also b/c the standards/expectations back then were pretty harsh. Looking at it now I feel kind of indifferent about it. It's also unfortunate that the ride is broken since I really dig the art, composition in this track more than his earlier stuff.

[in reply to @Maple] pretty much my take as well; im on the fence about what to vote, but do think it's SL's best art by far. the shading, composition and the native americans are particularly impressive. interested to hear what others think; i always thought it a shame that SL missed a feat due to something breaking when he uploaded the track, and frhd not having a delete or edit function to easily fix the issue

track looks like a blend of thefunkymonkie and mr..a, the shading is really striking and the perspective looks great. also have to mention the trees and bg; both are a big highlight for me. dont really feel like p2h has gone wrong in any place here, just a very high quality track all around - easy yes from me! also appreciate that he used slow-mos with the portals to make the ride work well, very nice touch which i think is easily unappreciated.

props to him for getting the track into this state, given how long he's been working on it. i know from experience how much of a slog it is to dedicate yourself to a huge project for multiple years and work through periods of wanting to give up. if this is his last track, he's got a lot to be proud of

Thanks y'all for the feat! 2015 me would be going crazy rn haha. As for why I called the track NTBF, it's because my detailing improved drastically while making the track (I worked on it on/off for a few years) and I was too lazy to go back and fix my bad details. Maybe one day I'll find the time to truly finish the track

I thought it was generated because of how clean some of the drawings are. I love seeing a master's work transcribed to freerider; it really sets the bar for those of us who like to draw/detail. Tracing this many drawings would take forever, although it wouldn't be particularly difficult. The track isn't very well crafted. The way the drawings are integrated with the ride is pretty fun in some places but for the most part disjointed.
I don't think a track should have to be perfect to be featured. I'm not against tracing as long as credit is given to the original artist, but if an image is traced then I expect the traced drawing to be more than just an independent image; I would hope that it would be integrated into the track in a thoughtful way.

felt like i was completing a maze as i was trying to figure out how the shortcuts/teleporters/stars all connected, and once i figured it out towards the end of the track, felt just as satisfying as putting in the final piece of a jigsaw puzzle. there's so much replayability here, for ppl of all skill level. truly masterful ride construction, could gush about it for ages. smart use of portals, gravity, obstacles with physics lines... so so much fun. i think i saw coager mention that he wasnt sure how he felt about the text, and i feel the same way; on the one hand, it made solving the puzzle easier without it taking away the enjoyment of figuring out how the ride worked, but on the other hand, it wouldve been suuuuper rewarding to figure it out minus the text. just something to think about in future, but not a problem for me i dont think

detail is beautiful, especially love the trees and cliffs on the bottom right. first thing that stood out to me was how great this track looks at normal zoom and fully zoomed out, but after playing, the detail is barely an afterthought for me; speaks volumes about just how fun this track is. easiest yes vote of my life. nasrani is one of the most versatile artists on the site!

That being said, I'm in love with Double Blacks! I'll ride on that all day! Up and down all night long! The ride being split into differing paths that are all individually distinguishable from another makes each segment enjoyable and less stale than if the cliff section was simply maneuvering down and teleporting back to the top. The use of optional faster and slower paths that are clearly labelled and such is a nice touch. When I was just looking at the track zoomed out I didn't like the labels at first because it sort of took away from the vibe the track had as this secluded mountain/boulder formation. They grew on me as I played through the track but I think I would've liked discovering them more if I wasn't told that they were there. Either finding them myself by replaying or by watching ghosts made by others would've felt more satisfying in my opinion. My expectation for the ride on this track going in were so low after Bay of Biscay lmao, very happy finding out that this track is just super fun. All the checkpoints are all in super fair spots and the small reusing of parts of the cliffs is great to see.

I don't like giving feedback for detail on tracks because it's so clear that pretty much all featured tracks with detail are better than my tracks lol, but I will say that some of the trees in the cliff section feel really unfinished. mostly the bottom ones when compared to the one that's in the middle that looks really nice. I hate to rag on unfinished parts since I don't finish ANY of my sh.it EVER. love the 3-d rock detail as well. makes me jealous that you can draw like that while I'm using isometric view for my own stuff bahaha. good shi.t.

The hills section, while only taking up the final quarter of the of the track, is extremely clean. I was constantly expecting to have my wheels hook on blades of grass that peak through into the rideable lines so when they didn't, I thought "that was cool" instead of "this fu.cking sucks". Love the trees and how differently the ride flows in the area compared to the cliff section, it really makes it feel separate area of the track that I unlocked by completing the cliff.

Huge yes from me. probably in my top 15 if not top 10.

I was discussing with someone the other day about what cohesive abstract is. This is certainly an example of that that I use. Everything looks in place and whilst it's random it doesn't look wrong.
The use of pump mechanics is incredibly underrated and underutilised. This again another great example of this.
This was one of the top entries of the hexagon contest, can't remember if it won though. This is a monumental staple of the canvasrider community which should have more support on it.

due to the aging of the game and standards it is a lot rougher in areas that it would be if made today.

I've played. Ride is really topical at moments with box 3 despite having multi options seemed very confusing.
Detail very good overall. Other than the sprite area, love the centre piece but the rest is really lackluster. I know that's not his forte so I can forgive it for the rest.
Themes were cool, missed the live laugh love trope but for the most point very impressed.

Easy yes as per, nasrani despite being gone for so long has come back like he has never left.

love the art style. can never go wrong with cityslick graffiti themes. my only complaints are that his foliage and tree detail are just brush tool circles. he can do a lot better if he took more time. also there is a lot of grid detailing here. doors, books, windows, lights etc. freehanding would definitely make it look more natural and less inhumanly perfect. also couldnt go wrong detailing the ocean rocks a little bit more. it seems a little bare down there. as for the ride, im not that skilled to comment on that as i cant do tubing at all, so i will leave that to the ones who can. all in all, this track is definitely a step up for him and if this doesn't get feated, he definitely will get one in the foreseeable futture. good job!

this track is surprisingly really fun! i was expecting the ride to be awkward, cramped and annoying to play, due to how densely the detail and ride is laid out (courtesy of the constraints of the box). but it doesnt suffer at all from this, and indeed has some pretty interesting double-back sections of gameplay, that i couldnt parse until i actually played the track. this is indicative of creative ride planning and powerup usage, so big plus there.

initially i wasnt a massive fan of the detail, for some of the reasons brought up by ration. but playing the track and zooming in a bit, i think it's actually very effective and a lot neater than it looks at normal zoom. the apartments are massive highlights for me; youve got such a huge variety of rooms which i appreciate a lot, very reflective of what actual apartments would look like cut in two. the sea animals are well-drawn, graffiti generally solid. as far as first-features go, this is a hard track for me to decide on; there's a lot to love, but there is also a lot of easy stuff that couldve done to improve this track markedly

im working on a guide to detailing rn, and a section of this guide is dedicated to the art of drawing to scale. in the underwater section, the turtle is the same size as a shark - simply making the shark bigger (and applying this logic throughout the track) would be a big yet simple improvement for the track. further, there's a lot of brush usage here that just isnt necessary. the sea creatures are outlined in brush where straight line tool would be infinitely better, and same goes for the trees, bushes, wood grain... and finally, i feel there shouldve been more graffiti, and less... logos? the lion and warhill logo things look so out of place compared with the graffiti. replacing them with small tags, different styles of calligraphy, murals etc wouldve enhanced this section a lot more, which imo is lacking compared with the underwater and apartment sections.

not sure what to vote yet - will edit in verdict after some more thought

edit; voting yes, think this is a great first feat. in future, draw bigger - you have the potential, and drawing to and with scale will really let your talents shine

so I'm the first YAY'er.

It has a relatively playable track whilst despite looking challenging was easily completable for someone with my skill set.
The detail is a bit hit and miss, the trees, the rocks at the end and the lack of cleanup on the art work was a little puzzling to me, I had given some feedback about his parkinsons-esque styling of the artwork but this is a major major improvement on his previous works.
top 2 sections for the most part detailing is very good, agree with the overall large push of companies rather than tagging or grafitti but that isn't that much of an issue to me. You gotta think this is such a big jump in quality from his previous works and going for the first feature basis I want to give him that push in confidence whether or not this is his first feature to that level.

In short:
Scale needs to be improved
Brushing needs to be cleaned
Ride is great
Detail for the most part is better than other stuff we've had featured
Scale in terms of track length is good.

Big track, big improvement for these players (minus goatosaur). Comments calling for a feat, though havent played it through yet myself; will edit in thoughts once done

e; ride is reasonably fun, no real problem areas except the very last part. detail is fine, nothing to write home about or criticise too-harshly. idk, track reminds me a lot of what maple said about a track needing to do more than tick feat 'requirements'. it's big, and waddles' first go at a feat, but cant say im especially impressed - am gonna play some more and make a decision later

e2; observatory is really cool, but the rock/ground detail varies a lot from really good to really messy. also no stylistic cohesion at all, really detracts from the track for me. i think this really needed more than just rocks everywhere, going to vote no for now

Rocks are very me in 2012/13. Unsure it's something I'm on board with but it is an improvement on their last work.

e; Ride wasn't an issue, scale pretty good but the rocks are just too rough and outdated. Voted no, there's nothing on here that screams feature worthy enough. This is a good intro feature track to compare to sltg28s who just came out but this doesn't have anything clean enough that screams out like that did.

individual rock details are different and vary in quality from rock to rock, but on the whole this is more choesive of a track than any of the box contest entries. its got a unique look with some highlights that make it stand out in my mind. i like weird stuff like this, this is what a track should be

apologies if the CC is a little harsh - putting this together now, 2/3s is pretty negative :s yall have done great, even if there are easy areas to improve on in the future. nonetheless, the future of trackmaking remains bright!

e; most people possibly wont remember, but the improvement from your old tracks to now is insane. if youd told me 7-8 years ago FTR would get a feat, i wouldnt have believed it lol. so huge props for coming back after all this time and creating something like this.
really appreciate the way youve taken inspiration from dante's style of ride creation and eli's "desperation" series, and mashed them together with your own art style to make something meaningful to you. im not really well-versed on drawing with this sort of perspective, but it generally looks good - some wonky parts here and there, but nothing that detracts from the piece too-much. particularly love the flagpole and the way the flag is folded! however, the few problems i have with the detail/perspective lead into my biggest criticism i have with this track: the ride, or more specifically, the CP placement combined with the use of blob with teleporter. i had a lot of issues with the blob either breaking through areas it wasnt meant to, or glitching into physics lines. whilst some may say this is a game issue rather than an author issue, i disagree; for example, dante's tracks - using the same techniques and style of ride - do not suffer in this way, due to him replaying the track repeatedly, reducing places where physics lines connect, and being generous in CP placement knowing the blob can be unpredictable. obviously you had a time constraint due to this being a contest entry, but both the ride and the detail in parts couldve really done with some extra TLC and playtesting. i think youre working on stuff rn, so that would be my biggest piece of advice; slow down a bit and really iron out the small problems you come across whilst making the ride/detail. particularly if you continue to use the blob and draw in this perspective, itll go a long way

Apart from some clunky areas this has been incredibly solid. Well overdue for a first feature with the improvements up the wazoo, I would work on curving some of the parts such as the fire truck and the hut at the end. Ride I would check for blob glitches but I know this was art over ride. Well well deserved.
