I don't want to sound like a spoiled brat requesting more food from developers but I recently came up with a cool idea/feature. I'm not sure how I would code it especially considering it would be rather complex (incredibly complex). I also understand that this is just an idea, I'm not expecting anything to come out of this.
This idea stemmed from the problem many spacebarrers and even nsbers have which is velocity; it can be quite difficult to gauge where you're going to land (esp when constantly pausing and playing).
But how could you make this accurate? But there are so many variables which play into velocity that change track-by-track, so how could you possibly begin to estimate a bike's velocity?
Let's say to check the velocity of the bike (when paused) you press a certain key (say, Q) and it gives an outline of what would happen to the bike (potentially through "Player Trail" or a short animation) in the next 5 seconds regarding the track features of even simply air time (any more than 5 seconds would generate considerable lag I'd imagine).
Then there has to be a given. Given x, the bike would land y.
For instance, x could represent releasing all keys (or holding up).
This is just an idea in fantasy land right now, and I don't think that it is very high priority amidst other updates that players might want, so again, I'm not expecting anything out of this.
Perhaps this would even be considered cheating, I don't know; but I think this would allow newer players to better understand bike physics as so many high ranking players have already.
Calculus you are such a gem to the community and you're doing good work out there.

Edit: Dang I just realized this is a dummed down verson of TAS

I might be able to code a velocity script but not the trail and predictions

It ain't that difficult to gauge velocity, you just need to play enough.

Not a bad idea. I think it would be pretty cool. It also would not be too difficult to implement; however, unfortunately I do not have the time to work on any more personal/passion projects. When I am able to, I certainly do have big plans for Free Rider Lite, as it is a passion project, and thus far — 7 years in the making — I have not lost any motivation for it; my passion remains strong. Know that eventually I will continue maintaining Free Rider Lite and improving the overall Free Rider HD experience.

On another note, I do believe this would be a controversial implementation, though I don't see it giving anyone an unfair advantage + it would be available to everyone. Reason being that it would not accurately depict the player's controls — it's mainly for projecting the player's velocity without having user input. I think spacebarring would be more of an unfair advantage as this would if any. Nonetheless, I may implement it at some point. Maybe re-post this in the Free Rider Lite thread or create an issue on the GitHub repo labeled as a request/idea so I can keep track of it when I do get to it.

Neither. It uses the HTML5Canvas 2D context. I am experimenting with WebGL on Top Hat Rider — if that goes well I will likely implement it on Free Rider Lite.

its just smth you can put in ur browser console loll. I'm not really good enough at coding to make it into a full mod but i can try

We have a speedometer script, not sure how you would predict the path of the rider ahead of the ghost, it’s like reverse TAS.
Here is the latest speedometer script I have in my archive: https://pastebin.com/raw/yRakUSQh

From what I've gathered, the idea is that the game will continue running the simulation with no user input to see what happens to the rider, as if you just let go of all the keys at that point. I don't really see any advantage but I think it would be pretty cool. After all, schools/teachers allegedly use this as a tool for students, this might be helpful to those people if such people exist.

Wouldn’t the lag be crazy. Also are we assuming the simulation is only holding accelerate.

It wouldn't be any different from playing the actual game. The simulation would assume no keypresses.
