well, idk about seasnails winning, sure it was a great track but quite difficult which is a slight put down in points
On the other hand seasnails had great detail, scoring him a bunch probably, however the detail feels a little dense to me (and probably only me) and could have used a little more negative space
On yet another hand tplacella's track relied heavily on the helicopter, not a thing you are exactly looking for in a contest track
On a fourth and final hand tplacella's track was so big it had to become two tracks because it broke the 10mb limit, and worked the previously mentioned heli in very well

So who's winning? Personally I'm rooting for tplac (bc I know him a little better) but idk, seasnails' track is a very tough one to compete against, but tplacella did it well

and probably no rc11 trackmakers in chat

    lmfao

to be blunt, this is a very low priority for me atm; im doing my last 3 weeks of university before graduating, and have little time for much else but writing, work and research over this period. it depends on what Ness wants; i'll be able to give in-depth reviews and such in november, but otherwise can only give a ranking from first to last atm

Ness Hey would you like to do a Minecraft editor with me>? I'm going to be making the blocks anyway and have already finished the grass section, I could toss you a list of all the hexcodes and you could make a custom radial with it. If you are interest let me know. Minecraft2HD

ok im ngl results have been done for like 2 weeks, i just completely forgot to release results lmfao. what ness and i have decided, is to combine the two different deadline entries into one, with people who submitted tracks before the first deadline (Seasnails and TPlacella) gaining an extra 5 points for submitting "early".

so with all that being said, merry christmas all, and here are the results and cc !

    Mario Dark Castle by Egona
Look man, idk why you entered this and not Mario Seen Better Days (NTBF). There are some comments about potentially tracing in that track, so maybe that's why? Either way, Mario Dark Castle is just not anywhere near a complete track. It's a draft at best. The ride is whatever, it's impossible to have a strong opinion on because of how milquetoast it is. You've not really drawn anything much yourself here, other than the clouds and hills? Idk, this was disappointing, I expected much more from you. The Dream Machine editor was not used well at all here.

    Scores:
    Art: 3/10
    Theme: 4/10
    Fun Factor: 2/10
Total: 9/30 (+5 for entering in first deadline, but -5 for late entry, so +/-0 in the end)

    Super Mario by Overthrown
This was a solid entry, especially in comparison to previous tracks by you; you should be proud of what you've done! Your detail and theme had a unique and charming aesthetic, with the giant coins being a very nice touch to the track. The non-heli section was particularly good, having a nice variety of obstacles that made for a fun playthrough. However, the heli section was really, really rough. The boost to hit the heli after the balloon section is super sketch, which is horrifically accentuated by the lack of checkpoints between that and the 30-second-long, boring and monotonous balloon section. It soured the entire track for me, ngl. In future, work on ironing out kinks in the ride (like that cp and boost placement), and make sure to connect your lines more to have higher quality art!

    Scores:
    Art: 4.5/10
    Theme: 4/10
    Fun Factor: 4/10
    Total: 12.5/30

    Mario Preview by qduhon
This was excellent, and would have been one of my favourite entries had it been finished! The aesthetic of the track felt like a wonderful combination of the 3DS/DS era of Super Mario Games blended with goofyinc's style of track, which made for a very fun and visually appealing entry. It was refreshing seeing such an entry in comparison to everyone else, and I commend your creativity for making it work so well! I only wish you had more time to work on it. The lack of a background really hurt your score here, and in future could even elevate this to a feat. I also think adding more Mario-specific obstacles would elevate the track, such as through goombas or fireballs. Either way, an excellent start, which I hope you return to and finish in the future!

    Scores:
    Art: 6/10
    Theme: 5/10
    Fun Factor: 6.5/10
    Total: 17.5/30

    Level I by dzemas
Wow, what a fantastic track; this was so enjoyable to play, it put you into the top 3 most improved players for the year for me. This is a terrific example to everyone on how to recycle effectively in Free Rider. You used teleporters the most creatively out of everyone in this contest, which was supplemented by fantastic gravity use as well. The whole track played like one massive Mario-themed puzzle, or like an easy Mario Wonder level; just so so much fun. Your art was cohesive, though a bit inconsistent, and things like the Bowser Jr., squid and foreground detail would have benefitted greatly from more TLC. I also think that the underwater level needed more attention in the ride and gameplay category, as it stuck out as a bit boring when compared to how phenomenal the rest of the track's ride was. Nonetheless, this was a great entry from you. I really hope you continue to make such enjoyable tracks in the future!

    Scores:
    Art: 6/10
    Theme: 7/10
    Fun Factor: 9/10
    Total: 22/30

    Wahoo by loge_0
Much like dzemas' entry, this was such an immensely fun track to play. It had the best implementation of a Mario powerup out of anyone in the contest, with that "ON" button being exactly what I had hoped to see out of entries in this contest - great work. Otherwise, your art was - surprisingly - your strong suit here, especially in the first section. Just very clean and effective all around. However, the lack of a background in the latter parts of the track hurt your score, as was the lack of lava detail in the middle. Furthermore, the goomba's scale in comparison to the rest of the track was massive, and I think you should've done a stack of goombas (like in Mario Odyssey) instead. With all that being said, this is a very, very strong entry that had the potential to crack top 2. Nice work!

    Scores:
    Art: 7.5/10
    Theme: 7.5/10
    Fun Factor: 10/10
    Total: 25/30

    Super Mario World by TPlacella
I want to preface my CC by saying that, in comparison to your other tracks, this was a step up in quality that neither myself nor Ness were expecting. To say we were blown away by the sheer scale of this entry would be an understatement. This is exactly the sort of thing we were hoping to see; people able to reach new heights with the help of the Dream Machine. I spent the longest on this track out of all the entries, as there is a lot to unpack. Admittedly, I do have a lot of critical feedback to give here, but please do not mistake that for me attacking this track or TPlacella - I just think there is a lot of potential here to really elevate your future work in the future, through just a bit of tweaking!
This track's length was both a WOW factor, and its undoing. There was not nearly enough gameplay variety for a track of this length for it to be as much of a memorable playthrough as, say, Wahoo or Level I or 1-4. Though there was plenty of different vehicle sections, they all played pretty much the same in practice - like an ItzChuckNorris track, where you're more or less on a rollercoaster, holding up and watching the detail go by. Of course, in and of itself it playing like an ICN track may not necessarily be a bad thing, and I respect your decision to make tracks like this. However, I do think it limits how much enjoyment people can get out of this track. Like for example, in the final level, there are Thwomps and Fire Bars everywhere, but they are only there for aesthetic, and don't actually pose any real threat to the player. There was potential to implement the environment and level into the gameplay in order to influence the level of challenge posed by this section, which would've greatly elevated player experience. Instead, you artificially increased the level of difficulty here by taking away checkpoints, which does not have nearly as big of an effect (and, I must add, made it frustrating to play when some of the gravities and boosts of this section are not 100% consistent).
With all this being said, Super Mario World checks this contest's boxes very nicely. There's a huge amount of character, mob and level diversity, drawn to a generally great level. As well as this, you added lots of room for shortcuts and optimisations throughout this generally easy track, which ensures appeal for new and veteran players alike - a touch that I really appreciate in ride creation. I liked the addition of stars that were placed at the start of levels but just out of reach, forcing the player to explore and backtrack later; a staple of the Mario game series. I also really need to shoutout the final hallway at the very end of the track. That, for me, was your best detail yet, and it's fitting that it comes at the end. I'd love for you to develop that style more in the future, and move away from heavy reliance on the grid to detail. This is a jaw-droppingly huge entry, of a high quality. Continue to refine your art style in the future, and you'll continue to have success in trackmaking. Fantastic work.

    Scores:
    Art: 8.5/10
    Theme: 10/10
    Fun Factor: 7/10
Total: 25.5/30 (and +5 for early entry)

    1-4 by Seasnails
It was always going to be hard to beat an entry like Super Mario World, and only a track of the quality of 1-4 could have achieved this. I think this is the best trial track of all time, and I don't think I'm the only person to have this opinion. I have played this so many times since its release, and even though I cannot get further than 2/3s of the way through the track, it is always so, so much fun every time. This track is the textbook definition of perfect checkpoint placement. Each obstacle has a checkpoint directly afterwards, which really helps add a sense of progression to a track of this difficulty and scale. It only uses the bike, yet there is so much gameplay variety throughout, whilst only using Mario environment elements like blocks and pipes! And the detail is so clean, and such a huge step up in quality in comparison to, say, Wintertide. That background is just gorgeous, even if it is a bit repetitive, and is reminiscent of Mario Odyssey's Mushroom Kingdom level. I could sing this track's praises for ages; it's one of the most enjoyable tracks to play on the site, by far. However, it is not perfect, as is reflected by the score below. The sky section of this track felt like an afterthought in comparison to the overworld and underground sections, particularly in the art department. I also think that that *one* star in the underground section should've been placed a few pixels lower or something, as it is brutal to reach; indeed, I've only managed to hit it once, and I died right after it. Nonetheless, this is an exceptional track, that is highly deserving of first place in the Super Mario Maker Contest. Well done, and I hope to see more tracks from you in the future!

    Scores:
    Art: 8/10
    Theme: 9/10
    Fun Factor: 10/10
Total: 27/30 (and +5 for early entry)

edit; shoutout to Starkid and Yellow_Lion for their tracks too. They were ineligible for judging in this contest, as the former did not use the template set out in the first post, and the latter did not draw using Mario in their track. But nonetheless, we appreciate your work and use of the Dream Machine, and hope you continue to make tracks using this tool going forward!

I hope at least the top 3 get medals for the effort that was put in. Huge thanks to Ness and Volund for hosting this cool contest, it's a shame that entries like dante's happened after the contest finished which would have made it even better as there weren't many eligible entries overall. Also, is no one going to talk about how I scored higher for art than Seasnails? Or was it because of the size of the track that made the score go up? Anyway, I'm extremely happy with how my track turned out, only downside besides ride creativity and implementation was having to split the track in two. The criticism made sense throughout and I plan to make more amazing tracks in the future (besides finishing ss5, I have a few cool things in store ;))
