    ROUND 2 IS OVER
    ROUND 3 HAS STARTED

    Round 3

Thank you to everyone who participated in Round 2. It was definitely hard to keep the momentum from Round 1 going, which in itself was arguably the best single round this contest has ever had. That round alone I feel validates the contest as a success regardless of what happened this round or happens next round. In comparison though, I shoulder much of the blame for the lack of sustaining momentum on myself; I don't believe I pushed the contest enough last round. That being said, it was very heartening to see a shift of people jumping into the contest to give their best for Round 2, in it's own right objectively, Round 2 was a success as well. As such, I feel the contest is wide open for Round 3 and overall winners.

I had ideas for Round 3, that I completely threw out the window a couple weeks ago. Because I was moved by a post in this thread from longtime and respected member. Since this game doesn't really carry the emotional bonds and friendships that can be more easily established in multiplayer games, a lot of people don't take into account the sacrifices of time in your personal life to truly create something great for this game. Too many times we look at it on it's face value rather than appreciating the effort that went in to making something, especially in a 2 week timeframe. Round 3 is a homage to mR..A, who will also guest judge this round. mR..A is someone who's been with this game for a long time, and someone who inspired me to continue pursuing improvement in this game when I first started playing many years ago. His influence on this game cannot be understated. That being said the track for Round 3 is an excerpt from Mammoth by mr..a, a track that shows despite after all these years, he's still trying to innovate within this game. Also guestjudging this round is another legend, Elibloodthirst.

As previously referenced, Round 3 will be extended to January 5th 11:59pm EST.
Hopefully, this will alleviate some of the stress from time constraints and encourage others to participate. The excerpt for Mammoth is cut to the 13th goal, roughly half was removed.

    Introduction
Welcome to the 8th Remix Contest, this has been an annual contest since before the website's inception. The Remix Contest throughout it's span has produced some of the most well regarded tracks on the database, for example Vulcan Genesis by Maple (RC3), Empire Falls by mr..a (RC4), claires train by pinn (RC5) and more. This can be attributed to the simple concept behind it, take someone else's track and make it your own. Alleviating the pressure of starting from a blank slate, opens the doors for experimentation and creativity. And even better, because since last time this contest was hosted well (sorry Phase), we have gained new powerups and the teleporter has become accessible to everyone. So as we do this again, I challenge everyone to compete with creativity. You may think you can't detail as good as someone else, take that as a sign to stop doing it like someone else, because creativity wins. Good luck to everyone, let's get started.

    Rules

You are given 3 codes: Original - no change to the original track, Bones - only detail that supports the structure of the track is kept, and Track Only - only the playable track is kept. You may choose any of these codes to start from. Your goal is to put your own spin on the track without compromising the track's general structure. You may delete/add new areas to the track, reroute it, give it a new theme/completely new direction detail-wise, etc, but the general structure must be accounted for. The example I provided shows how this can be effectively done: Practice Round Example which is a remix of Session by Ness, this is also the track you'll be using for the Practice Round (see below post). No, my example is not an all out re-skin detail wise, it was meant only to show how a track can be rerouted and given new parts without compromising the general structure.

Judging will be handled by me and 1-2 guest judges per round. No there's no rubric or guidelines for it, as I've stated in the past, I feel they limit creativity. However, all entries will be graded out of 10, with a perfect score always given to the one in first place.

    Prizes

The below prizes are monetary. It is up to you how you would like to receive them. I can send this to you through a service such as CashApp, purchase something of equal value for you on Amazon or push come to shove I can buy you a FRHD pro/coin package. It's entirely up to you if you win.

    Per Round:
    1st Place - $50
    2nd Place - $25
    3rd Place - $10

Consolation prize of 1000 coins to each participant

    Overall:
    1st Place - $150, VIP and a medal
    2nd Place - $100 and a medal
    3rd Place - $50

    Timeline

Below is the General Timeline of the contest. All rounds will end at 11:59pm EST, and I'll post the next round's information simultaneously. Rounds are all roughly 2 weeks long, except the Practice Round. Round 3 might be extended in the future, to compromise with those who may be taking their exams or finals that 1st week.

    Practice Round: November 10th - November 17th
    Round 1: November 18th - December 1st
    Round 2: December 2nd - December 15th
    Round 3: December 16th - January 5th

    Practice Round
The Practice Round has always been done as a means to familiarize new players with the idea of remixing. It may seem to be a completely foreign idea at first, but once you experiment with it, you'll realize how much fun and freedom you'll have doing it. The Practice Round is neither judged or mandatory for the contest; however if you do choose to upload your remix for this round, I will provide constructive criticism on it. This will help ease any perceptions you have before going into the 1st round. The track you'll be remixing is an excerpt from Session by Ness, you can also find my example here: Practice Round Example. Please review the Rules if you haven't already. Practice Round ends November 17th. Below are the codes:

    Practice Round Review
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Practice Round and again to Ness for providing the track. My personal favorite was Chateau Metro by Zycerak, mostly on the basis of being a super original idea executed extremely well. Additionally, I really enjoyed icattallthedark16's and RedOrBlue's for other reasons. I hope we can continue to have this level of participation in Round 1.

Hometown (RC8PR) by RedOrBlue: I love when I see a track that feels inspired. Using something special, you know, like your Malaysian heritage as inspiration it just takes the track to that next level. Other than that, I love how you smoothed it out into a fun ride.

rc8pr by zwinxz (zonyc): There’s a lot of good things going here. Those pillars are a really simple but effective way to detail the track, because it will look good practically any way you choose to do it. Same can be said about the cave and ground detail, that looks like it was done very fast. You definitely are at the peak of your own style. Also, extending the track outwards was a great touch that opened up the ride very well.

Remix(Druid) by CHuguley (Obscurity): This one is very cool. The detail here in my view has a dystopian vibe. I don’t know if it’s what you were going for but I see this as a barren landscape with petrified trees and spores popping up from the ground. The dude at the table and the zoomed out look with the mouse and window screen is a good touch too. Your changes to the ride were fun as well.

Skatetown by E12: I love how you were able to make this into a track that felt distinctly your’s. How you modified it using the boosts and gravities in that way, it reminds me of your Quick Jumps tracks.

RC8PR by Avatic: Good job making a near seamless transition to a simple rock detail track. Would definitely like to see you expand on this in Round 1.

RCPR: Meme Remix PG-13 by Sannin: I hope you do this again, because something lighthearted like this definitely adds a lot of positive energy to the contest. We need more memes.

Cityscapes - RC8PR by 1amborghini: Nice take on the Bones code man. I like how the track is a continuous motion, but if you want to make it linear, it’s a good opportunity to change the track to make it that way. Instead of suggesting people start to the left, you could’ve made it so they had to start that way. Still fun though, just something to think about and thanks for the promo in the track and description.

rc8 practice by gr611: I love the trial elements you added to the track, while still keeping the base intact. Made for a really fun challenge and ride. The simple detail you added was nice too.

A Journey Of Details (RC8P) by ABoomer: As I said in the track comments, I love the feel of speed you put in the track with the various powerups and portals. Definitely was very fun to play. I also found the stuff you wrote pretty funny (ie “no further”). The mish mash of details is cool too, but I recommend picking one or two you feel comfortable with and building off that.

Remix of bones by himynameisjoe: Already said my opinion on the track in the comments, so I’m just going to give more advice after my 2nd play through. I recommend, if you want to add to the track in that way have it also effect how you play the rest of the track. Because right now, once you hit the gravity the original track doesn’t matter anymore, which defeats the purpose of the remix. Using the gravities like that is a cool idea, but also have it impact the original track.

Tendrils - RC8PR by Coated_Badger: You definitely made the track your’s here. You added your definitive style to the track which is very commendable: the trial elements and detail. Can’t wait to see you expand on this in Round 1. And thanks for the promo.

fz pseudotimestretch+e+3 by icattallthedark16 (Uyllds): I love this. It’s extremely fun to play. The expansion but also using the portals and other powerups, to involve the original track was spot on. And it’s been amazing seeing you evolve as a detailer. For your first time, you blew it out the water.

Egyptian Dunes by Polarized: This is a really cool idea. And it would be amazing if you followed through with it. I notice the triangular shape you made with the platforms. If you drew multiple pyramids and drawings like you did on the sides there it would’ve been really cool. Follow through with great ideas man.

Winter City by ForToday616: It’s always cool when people expand on the original code and using a winter theme is really nice. It’s almost that time of year, and I would love to see this idea come again the nearer we get to Christmas. A city track with Christmas trees, ornaments, Santa, etc would be awesome. But as some cautionary advice, limit using the smallest brush, when there’s a lot of glitch lines it really hurts the track.

RC8PR by NewGoblin: I like how you smoothed out the track and gave it some very simple detail. But aside from that there’s not much to say, not much here really. Thanks for the promo.

RC8PR by preliner: Seeing those steel beams, I gotta feel like I helped inspire that. I really dig the construction zone look, and it’s definitely something you could potentially build upon. Maybe some cranes, workers, bulldozers, etc, a lot of cool stuff you could make.

Solid Rock - RC8PR by Netsik: That kind of rock detail is always so simple but effective. Really can’t go wrong with it. And I love the feeling here, the additional waterfalls makes the track feel like a shallow riverbed. Extending the track out the sides was a great touch as well too, made it into a very fun ride.

rc8 practice by SlMBA: Let this one serve as a learning tool for everyone. Please start from one of the provided codes. Creating a mini version is really cool, but unless it’s a perfect, and I mean perfect miniature version, it destroys the general structure of the track too much to be even considered valid.

Sea life (Hard) by SlMBA: With the starting code, you made something really cool. The undersea theme is awesome and there’s a lot of things you can do with it. I love some of the drawings you made here like the crab holding money and the turtle, would be very cool to see you draw bigger. I also like the bubbles because it’s detail in relation to the ride. But as I also mentioned above to someone else here, stay away from the small brush, glitch lines are ride killers.

Skatepark (RC8PR) by KellenCaskey: Let this one serve as a learning tool too. You have to start from one of the provided codes.

Neighborhood (RC8PR) by SAVAGEMONSTER1234: This is pretty cool dude. You made a very fun ride expanding the left side and connecting it using portals. I also dig the houses and other details you made all in grid. Something like this is definitely something you could expand on.

Remix 8 Practice by sboggsl: Already said this in the comments, but I’ll reiterate it. I like how you opened it up some, but what you added didn’t flow well and you got to make at least an attempt at detail.

RC8PR by sboggsl: Happy you got OA dude and were able to post this track. You the trial elements you added were pretty cool, and it was good to see you put some effort into detailing. But instead of doing multiple different drawings, I suggest going for a concise idea that you can tie together.

London Mist RC8PR by Hunt3r_26: I like this a lot. This is a very good expansion on the underlying theme of a city track. I love the cranes and the feeling of construction going on in the city. Also dig how you rerouted the track using portals. Can’t wait to see what you do for Round 1.

Rc8 Imagine It by SkiaBum: I love this. You rerouted and used basically all of original track making a very fun and challenging trial. I’m interested to see if you can pull it off in Round 1.

Chateau Metro - RC8PR by Zycerak: This is my favorite of the Practice Round entries. Not only because the idea behind it is amazing, but because of the small details, like the Rudy Giuliani poster, which I found hilarious and definitely aimed at me lol. But it feels great to see someone have fun with it. The bathrooms, drink machines, benches, trash cans, beside from the train itself it’s just a fully realized idea, and that’s why it’s my favorite.

Infested City by BlakeAlex: This is cool dude. I really like how you made all the platforms into buildings, and I dig the monsters overrunning the city idea. I also found your change to the track made for a very fun ride.

Forest (RC8PR) by LabibZaydandy: Whoa that’s a lot of trees. Definitely did very good going for the forest theme, and the mountain in the background was a great touch. Also, the changes you made to the track flowed very well, and it was a fun ride.

Auto RC8PR by TheBrainiac101: It’s very cool that you turned the track into an auto. But I think it moves too slow, and it’s not really that interesting to watch. If this is something you want to continue to do, try to give the auto some wow moments.

2091 Rider - RC8PR by Totoca12: I love how you rerouted basically the whole track into making a really fun trial, but also utilizing all the basic powerups. As I said in the comments, the detail here reminded me of Tron. I really dig the futuristic grid detail.

A Myconids’ Riddle by Foundations: As someone who’s joined every one of these contests, you obviously get it. And that’s on display here. Outside of the perfected cave detail, the underlying theme with the magic mushrooms is really cool. The door chained door was a very cool touch, to add at the end of the nicely modified ride.

RC8PR by Wolf777: This is a really pleasant surprise. I’m glad you put the effort into making this. I thought your additions to the track flowed really well. And the detail, while simple I appreciate what you went for with the idea, like on the right side of the track you have what I’m pretty sure is a hole in the wall with foliage growing on it. Really nice.

RC8PR MaxReznik by MaxReznik: I love your usage of the portals in conjunction with the original to make a really fun and fluid ride, similar to Zycerak’s PR entry in that aspect. The bridge and the building above the track look really cool and so does the key to the right. If you take drawings like these and another interesting ride and turn them into a fully realized concept you could be a force to be reckoned with.

rc8pr by Chaos-Fallen: That’s crazy that you had a concussion man. I’m surprised you even started on this. That being said, there’s not much here to talk about. I like where you were going with it extending the track outwards and the building you started on the left, but I’m moreso looking ahead to what you do in the 1st round.

RC8 Practice Round by LogicXRoute: Fun ride man. I thought the gravity drop back into the track was very cool. I like the simple detail you had started with the ground and the bricks, and the extension of the ramp. Interested to see you do more. And thanks for the promo.

Remix Contest 8 by GREEN_DOWNHILL: Those steel beams and platform, along with the clouds really fit well into the track. I think a simple but effective style like that could work in pretty much any case. Also the change in route you made to the track using the portal was fun to play.

Construction Destruction-RC8PR by Guy_Incognito: It was very smart to remove those first two ramps and reshape the left side of the track, as it opens up more space and helps gives the track the former construction site look you were going for. That being said, though minimal, the detail you added like the pipes sticking out of the ground, do not enter sign and rustic looking platform gives the track an excellent touch.

RC8 Practice Video Game by DJPO: I thought it was pretty funny and generally a good idea. When zoomed out I also noticed you were going for the look of a video game controller too, similarly to a Nintendo Switch, or for the old heads a Gameboy Color. But when going for an idea like this, you should take some more time into its presentation: make what you write easier to read, try to keep the stick figures around the same size and do a little bit with the rest of the track.

Light feet RC8PR by Figured (Fiendish): This is really nice. The clouds and pillars are really cool and I like the look overall. I’d really like to see you participate in the contest.

bappy by mudkip (churro): This one is very interesting because it has the most changes to the original track, and they flow well with the detail and setting you were going for. I’m not sure what you were going for theme-wise, but my take on it is a pirate camp. I also liked the drawing on the right side.

Under The Sea by Carolina1234567: I like this a lot honestly, I love how happy the fish look. I thought those and the mermaids were pretty solid drawings, and I like the theme a lot. The track really could’ve done without the slowmo spam though, I’m not really sure what you were going for there. Maybe they’re supposed to be pebbles. Either way, this one was a pleasant surprise
