here's a private link to my latest song, final mix & master test before release. listening to it on various different speakers and getting opinions etc before it drops

first proper attempt at chillhop, i really enjoyed the process so you can probably expect a 4 or 5 track EP with this type of feel very soon

    any feedback welcome

in my opinion the whole sound just feels a little to heavy. (but I also don't listen to much chill hop...)

what do you mean by too heavy? loudness..? because it's mixed to achieve optimal loudness for streaming services so it shouldn't be too loud

it has bass and it's as loud as possible before distorting, are you listening on phone speakers?

It's solid. Definitely not too loud, lol. Maybe it's not that big on the bass as someone mentioned, but I feel like this style doesn't require too much of it, and the bass that the song has is enough in my opinion. It's a pretty chill song, as it was expected. The melody is overall great, but the parts with the electric guitar stood out for me. I feel like in those parts the music felt a bit more full, which I think it's cool, despite it being more of a chill vibe. Maybe it's a bit on the short side, but I feel like it's a pretty good song overall, especially aiming for this kind of chill style.

that's all very helpful, much appreciated! agreed i think the bass for this song doesn't need to be mega loud as it could detract from the other elements. i'm glad the lead guitar stands out as the highlight, that hook that repeats throughout is one of my favorite riffs i've come up with so that's good to hear. and yes it is a short song, i could do another verse and drag it out but tbh a lot of songs in this genre are 2-3mins max so i might just leave it as is :)

    thanks for the feedback

You're welcome. Yeah, it's a pretty good riff for sure. As for the length, yeah, many songs on this genre are not that long, so I don't think that's a problem for the people that are most likely to be interested on it. Good stuff!

I know, but it needs arco double bass
Edit: I am not listening through phone speakers, I am using headphones. And the bass you have just sounds like a synth, or a very soft real bass. And what I think would work good with the song is a bass guitar or double bass playing in a higher register than it normally would. Especially with the double bass, playing way up on the strings has a very frail, delicate soft sound which is great for chill hop or lofi. But it is your song, so you can choose what instruments, and it sounds very good on its own already.
