In going through all the community classic tracks, I have began to see some interesting hidden structure in relation to Canvas Rider, where the tracks were uploaded from. I decided to do some digging and found some interesting stuff that I decided to share with you guys. I also have some questions that are unanswered that I would like to see if someone else can help with. Here's the breakdown by ID:

1001-8323: first 250 pages of most played tracks on Canvas Rider. There is a discrepancy of about 680 tracks that I can’t explain, not sure where this comes from. There are 32 tracks displayed per page on CR and 32 tracks per page * 250 pages = 8000 tracks. In reality there are 7323 tracks in this range. Maybe some tracks were flagged when uploading and not allowed to upload? It is also worth noting that many tracks have switched places since they were uploaded over a decade ago and so the placements are not perfect.

One interesting example of a discrepancy is “Day At The Cottage” which should be somewhere around 1022 is actually at 11104 (covered more later)

8324-9680: remaining tracks of 100 (?) most featured authors in order from most featured to least featured (skipping authors who already have all their tracks listed) that are not listed in either the previous section or the next. The list on CR changes with every refresh of the page with users with a tied amount of features often swapping places. This becomes an issue as there are 40 something users with 3 features and they often swap places over several pages. It is an assumption on my part that they used the round number of 100 and that there were a lot of users with 3 features (and some with more) that had no more tracks to use in this section, which is why there are only 63 users with tracks actually in this section of the IDs.

    • + presumably 33 others with 3 feats that did not have any remaining tracks to use

9681-11086: page 250-300 of most played tracks on CR (once again, there is a discrepancy of about 200 tracks that I can’t explain, still not sure where these come from. 32 tracks per page * 50 pages = 1600 tracks, there are only 1406 in this section. For now I'm gonna stick with my flagged tracks hypothesis.) As with the first section, many tracks have switched places since they were uploaded over a decade ago and so the placements are not perfect.

11087-11095: miscellaneous contest entries not already included previously

11096-11106: It appears that these tracks were added after the fact in early January by Eric as feature import requests by the feature mods at the time. This is substantiated by a thread from Eric here that mentions IDs 11096-11100 being added as featured tracks on January 30th, 2015. He says later in that thread "shout out to the featured mods for requesting these" and that he "added these as 'classic' free rider tracks so they have older publish dates."
IDs 11101-11106 are presumably something similar, with "Day At The Cottage" perhaps being initially skipped over and only added now as there may have previously been issues adding a track with no stars.

That's it! Was cool to crack this code and figure out the methodology from Char and the day 1 folks. Not sure why it is the way it is but now I know :D If anyone has any answers to my questions or spots any mistakes then please let me know!

I noticed this too, mainly with the tracks of one author taking up like 5-10 tracks in a row by id and the contest entries. This thread however goes way more in-depth, well researched and great info!

just so you know, tsunami is alexander!

very cool research man! I was curious about this myself. if I find any more info about placement I'll pass it along.

oh interesting, didn't realize that. I do wonder why his profile isn't listed where it's supposed to be. I double checked and the "tsunami" profile still exists, just not listed there.

small update: Tubiek has found the reasoning behind the last few tracks.
It appears that Eric added these in early 2015 as featured tracks and grouped them with the other community classics per request of the feature mods at the time. This is confirmed for at least IDs 11096-11100, which are mentioned in a thread here.

The rest of the IDs are presumably a similar thing, with "Day At The Cottage" perhaps left until here as importing a track with no stars was previously an issue in some regard.

Very interesting stuff! I didn't know this so it's cool to have an answer. I'll also update my main post.

NotVeryGood I do not understand how you are going through every one of these. I just played 3000-3020 and it took me like an hour to get them to a satisfying level. It's probably easier since you are most definetly better, but 10,000 tracks must take forever to go through. This gotta be one of the longest challenges possible

this was a several year long project that I mostly worked through in short bursts. being organized about it helped a lot, as well as having a decent head start from my years of playing and accumulating good times from play random. I didn't even fully commit to finishing until about 3000 tracks in, and that was before I decided to get all top 10s and not just beat them all
