CALLING ALL GHOSTERS OLD AND NEW, SPACEBAR ABUSERS AND NON-SPACEBAR CONNOISSEURS ALIKE: How would you like the Free Rider HD speedrun.com page have the following categories and more? > Spacebar Category (in-game time) > Non-Spacebar Category (real-time) > Endurance Category (in-game time and real-time, think a category dedicated to speedrunning Magnum Opus, etc) > Campaign Category (in-game time, or real-time) > PLAYER CURATED TRACK CATEGORY (creating a FRHD SR.COM account on Free Rider, with tracks that are designed specifically for all kinds of ghosting) > And more! Does this sound interesting to you? Would you like the opportunity to have your fastest ghosts appreciated by people outside of our community, with prizes available on the forums and bragging rights up for grabs on speedrun.com on top? If so, vote in the poll! I am currently in talks with the only remaining active moderator of the Free Rider HD, Cuttyflame, to get some active members of the forums community on the moderator panel so we can add new categories that better reflect the wants of the ghosting community! So please, vote in this poll (and/or the one Eryp will hopefully post soon on Discord ) and leave suggestions below about other categories you may want!
I like the idea of spacebarring finishing with the time it took you to do it in one category. Then I have more of a chance of beating Symantec cause he spacebars like a tired pony. I would also like an offroad category please e1: Some prizes would be nice since there aren’t any more ghosting medals available for me rn on frhd
While this game is kinda tough to put categories on, due to the fact that it's majorly IL exclusive, it would be cool to see a speedrunning scene emerge in a bigger volume
holdup, so if i beat super free rider bros with a time of sub 2m, but the recording is like 12m long (due to my slowass spacebarring lol), does that mean it counts as 12m?
it would count as sub 2, since it would use in game time I am a bit confused about any% though, what would that mean? Volund
There's one for campaign already up from a long time https://www.speedrun.com/frhd (I saw your name up there lol). It would be cool to revive. Basically any% is completing the entire game. That's the objective. So a FRHD Campaign Any% would mean to complete every campaign track in campaign. For this category, it can be split into different sub sections like learning the ropes and fantasy (I watch too much maiko and Minecraft speedruns for my own good). It would be hard though because they'll need to be two separate categories. Spacebarring will take more time than Non-Spacebarring if we are doing Real-Time. If we are doing ingame time then, spacebarring will have an advantage. Two major categories (Spacebarring and Non spacebarring) and different categories to fight over seems like a great idea.
Hey all! Thanks for all the feedback and comments so far, Im not much of a ghoster but I do really like competition so have a lot of optimism for how this could work out! Cuttyflame has just given me mod of the page, so the plan now will be to figure out with the right people what categories, rules, prizes and more is needed! Im gonna page Totoca12 Eryp @other ghost mods here and see what to do going forward. Once we come to a consensus, I'll get onto making an official announcement thread
This is awesome! Will there be a way to add leaderboards for community tracks? I know there are a ton, but if there was a way to filter things down to only quality tracks like even just adding featured tracks to sr.com that would be great because right now the leaderboards seem kind of limited. Than again so is staff, so I guess it's a bit unreasonable to expect added categories so soon.
Oh for those who were wondering: Categories Speedruns fall into a variety of categories, even within their specific game. Some games have more categories than others, but I'll cover the most common ones. Any % Any% implies that you are finishing the game in the fastest way possible regardless of sidequest progression, item collection, enemies defeated, etc. It doesn't matter how you finish the game, as long as the credits roll, you're good. 100% A 100% speedrun implies that you've done everything in the game, as defined by your game's community. There's no across the board definition for what constitutes "everything". Individual communities for each game come to a consensus what 100% actually means. Low% Low% implies you are making the smallest amount of progress/item collection possible and still completing the game. This means different things for different types of games. Some games give you a percentage upon completion. For an RPG, the goal might be to complete the game at the lowest level possible only fighting the required battles. This is not necessarily a popular speedrun category, but it can make for interesting runs. IL IL stands for individual level, and involves trying to get the best time on an individual level in a game. Because levels are typically short and can be retried quickly, these times are usually very optimized and competitive. Most IL strats are too unreliable or risky to use in an RTA run. Some games have a stronger IL community than their single segment community. We should have a stand-alone category on frhd forums for best-combined campaign times for each one and then a total combined. I feel like people, especially those who spacebar/don't care how fast they complete campaign times (I'm the opposite of that) just display their fastest possible times and combine them to demonstrate the rankings of ghosters on the most played tracks in frhd.
Not entirely sure what you mean by much of that, but this thread is about speedrun.com which actually does have individual campaign track and full campaign series leaderboards. Not sure if that is the sort of thing you are talking about, but you should take a look.
Those are RTA non-spacebar speedruns. I’m talking about the actual best times both spacebar and nsb by every player. For example, the record for Learning the Ropes of speedrun.com is 2:14. My combined learning the ropes is 2 minutes flat with my best times, nsb ofc as you know me. Speedrun.com is great to test non-spacebar skills on multiple tracks in a row but what I mean is that we should have something on forums for every player to submit their best combined times for each campaign. People like Campaigned/NotVeryGood and RedOrBlue/Trickghost would have the best combined times of each campaign and furthermore, all 101 of them together. Do you get me now? Totally different things.
Everything would need to be retimed, and Cuttyflame was talking about using in game time (which is what you are referring to) instead of real time, due to loads sounds interesting to have something like that on forums, or maybe even just a link to the speedrun.com page
also, on the leaderboard sections, no one has video proof, and i think that should be needed there's should probably also be a spacebar and nsb category for the leaderboard sections https://www.speedrun.com/frhd/level/Mountains like here
I'd definitely verify non spacebarred runs. Though, IGN would be different from RTA as IGN doesn't need a video.
