a crowdfunding campaign could work. not sure who the last to contact kano was but i would be curious to see what they value the game's rights at, or the tracks and ghostsd that make up the db. it would almost make too much sense for a game like free rider collectively owned. it sucks that all the hours we've all collectively put into creating tracks/art or ghosting could be erased overnight if kano decided to shut down the game.

imo its our art and effort that is still making them any money at all, but its difficult to aggregate our power since if we were to "strike" and stop creating nothing would really materially change about the game. the playerbase would remain around the same size and thered be fewer quality ghosts/tracks created, but both of those impacts a nominal "strike" would have run into the same problem: because [players who would "strike"; quality tracks/ghosts] are so [outnumbered by bot/rando traffic; infrequent], whatever impacts a "strike" would have would effectively be nullified. and it's not like we can all show up to kano's offices and protest either. it's a difficult problem, especially without any communication from kano as to what their position is on ownership of tracks/ghosts and the game's IP.

i feel like u have enough authority to contact them lol, the only issue would be getting them to listen, kano is lowkey being a bit greedier than usual :c (i have to sugarcoat so i don't get cancelled)

this is from 2024 tho. the Charlie alt was inactive back then, but the game was pretty similar to in 2026, except that 2026 had more OGs and 2024 had more newgens

Such a difficult dilemma. I'd do a lot to give ppl the same childhood this game gave me. Really feels like kano has just forgotten every single one of us, even though it could be a huge asset were it marketed and updated well. A good update wouldn't even take that much imo (not that I've even touched code in my life), but even simply implementing freerider.app into the editor would do a world of change for newer players. Ofc it wouldn't be enough to revive the game, but it would def be a start. I'm sure there are at least 100 active players who would be willing to chip in 500USD+ myself included towards the cause of buying the game, but the logistics of that would be hella risky if put in the wrong hands, so I'm pretty wary ngl. idk why im speaking tho I have no connection to any discord or game dev, and not a complete understanding of this games history. Ive just bloody loved the game for the past 7-8 years for whatever reason.

I bet it wouldn't be impossible for us to make a primitive freeriderhd knockoff and advertize it ourselves because KANO doesn't give 2 *****. ill bet they wouldn't even fight legally if we made a similar game. idk I'm just spitballing; there's definitely a better way about this
