I believe a little bit of your issue is that the black lines (let’s call them boarders to simplify it) are too refined. You’re trying to draw organic and natural shapes in an unnatural boarder and that makes it very difficult to have a good looking end product. It’s the same reason why detailing trials are so hard to look good and will often turn out to be warehouse-esk or bunker-like (etc.) detail because those two genres aren’t natural or organic. It’s refined “human made” designs. A quick an possibly easy solution it’s to just make the boarders not so refined. Make that drop off more edgy and cliff/trench like, and make the flat riding have some depth. It doesn’t have to be a lot by any means but if there is a little undulation, it’ll make your track look so much more in tune to the theme you’re trying to convey. Another solution is to alter your theme to better suit the layout you’ve made. Either make it flow more to fit the smooth nature of the track or scrap it entirely and put the detailing into another track that’s more tuned to the detail. I.E. a layout to fit the detail instead of detail to fit the layout.

I hope this helps a little and if anyone wants to add onto or alter what I said, feel free to if it helps more people.

Another trick to drawing is unfocus your eyes only slightly, then draw the general shapes you see. Once you have the right shapes refocus them and do more intricate detail.

fluffy, that's not a tip its your eyes telling you you've been staring at the screen too long. You've been stuck, you need to stop trying to draw your track. please fluffy, you've been going at it for days. please. we miss you

Question. When you draw stuff, do you use grid or no?

I don’t most of the time, but if you were using curves for tubes or detail reference grid can be helpful. I would almost always recommend deleting the curve either being don’t with its guideline or using straight lines underneath it.

Depends, if i want a straight line or not. when making trees and bushes and detailing i wont usually. The only time i really use grid is when im making the ride/track.
