Nothing was bad about it man. It just looks like the same ol mountains you draw in almost every track, except this one has a lot more trees. I'd like to see how creative you can get with a decently big sized mountain, maybe 3x what this one is. (I'm just guessing this mtn is pretty small in the bg)

Edit: it was as big as I was thinking didn't see your scale pic til now. But I like how your valleys are in the scale pic haven't seen anyone do that 'tree line" you've got going. Nice

Yeah, well i never really tried mountains using lines before, only ever in like Bhaktan and Borneo, but that was a different time. The problem with making mountains that big for me is that I am literally the worst at "mid-background" stuff. Literally the worse. I don't know how to do it at all. I always leave way too much space, or make things too big, etc. The only time I've tried them that big is in Cali Reds and I kinda have mixed feelings for that part.

Looking at Deadwood, I don't think I'll ever finish it, I'm going to ask some people if they'd like to finish it.

I understand, although call me crazy, you're older tracks are really good too detail wise. But every artist has to come out of their comfort zone eventually, just test try a mid bg mountain. If you can master that I think you could have some reallyyyy amazing and interesting (and probably very dense) foreground detail.

I mean, the track already has mid bg mountains, the mountain I posted is behind another layer of more jagged, bhaktan-esque mountains. It's more about the trees that come in front of it. I mean, you've probably played the ntbf, just take a look at it on bhr. I think I learned that black backgrounds can't work with dense detail, they can only be the top layer.

And none of my tracks are any good. African Exped and Cali Reds are meh tracks.

Like I'll draw these OK mid-mountains (they aren't finished but you get the idea)
But then I'll get this massive space between the mountains and the actual track that make the thing feel empty.
And I don't know what to put in between.

Those 2 are actually my favorite tracks of yours tbh.
And I see what you mean, although the biggest part about that is you put too much space between the rider and detail. Make the 'space' about the same as you did with cali redwood throughout the track, if you know what I mean, lower the detail down a bit. Also what would help is if you made those trees and mid mountains part of the foreground and make it scenery (also probably a lil bigger), then the top mountains you got going just make them x2-x3 bigger and it'll make for a decent size bg. Easier said than done though, haha.

yeah that's what I was saying, they are probably my best, maybe challenger deep for sheer effort, but even those are meh.
Yeah, I put so much space because I needed space for the rider to make jumps and I can't make the black detail lower and just make it scenery where he rides, then it looks worse. I think I've come to the conclusion I've been dreading. I need to do some big-scale erasures, changing the trees to scenery ones. fudge... this is why I need a collab partner.

It'll definitely be funky looking but I think you can do it if you draw an outline for it before you start working on the track; distinguish what would look good as scenery lines/what all would go in the fg mainly. Also I would help you, but I'm nowhere near your detail level. I could give you cc along the way but that's about it.

And you're right top layer of bg should not be dense, how you did it with all black in the first pic looks good

I'm gonna try something and see if it works. I'm gonna try even closer trees to try to fill it in just a bit more.

I wish i still had the code to this track: [IMG]
