I don't know what's happening but honestly copying a style is fine by me for beginning artists. It's how I first started and helped me get started, if someone wants to try a style let them, it'll never be as good as the original.

 

I tried but it keeps cutting my image in half and only displaying half of it. But I was thinking use layers of spikey curves where you need the grass.
E: looks like it is just my screen that cuts it off, Char SparkleMotion is that a bug or is it intensional, I think it would be better if images scaled down to the width of the text box that they are contained in.
