I'm assuming the only one you've heard of is John Lennon? In any case, John too was an unapologetic genius.

Do you know who Lou Reed is? (Maybe not, since you clearly don't know anything about culture) He's another one of those unapologetic ******* musicians. Before he died, he wrote an essay on "Yeezus", Kanye's most polarizing album. He said, "He’s really trying to raise the bar. No one’s near doing what he’s doing, it’s not even on the same planet." Here's the article for reference: http://thetalkhouse.com/music/talks/lou-reed-of-the-velvet-underground-talks-kanye-wests-yeezus/

You're just another hater standing in the way of greatness, Crypt. The critics love Kanye's music. Even the haters listen to him. You're like the Trump haters who gave him the attention he needed to dominate the media. It's a shame you can't appreciate great music when you have every opportunity to listen to it.

The only douchey thing I've ever heard him say was that the Beatles were, "bigger than Jesus". I've never heard him interrupting people's awards, abruptly changing topics to accuse people of racism, etc. There's so many examples to pick from. You keep accusing me of finding him the only douche in regards to fame, it's laughable. "All these people were total douchebags as well, surely that should blend Kanye into the batter and justify his actions!"

Since when is not being fluent in the knowledge of every mainstream celeb in existence synonymous to lacking in culture? I don't pride myself on being able to name celebrities and what their impact was off the top of my head. If I hear something and I don't like it, I move on.

I'm not standing in the way of anybody. I fully support his right to be an ******* (to an extent) so long as I have my right to call him out for being one. I'm not even talking about his music per se, I'm discussing him as a person and his actions highlighted by the media. His music could be great, I don't know, but I know I wouldn't like it anyway since I pretty much condemn rap through & through.

No, Trump's haters are actually the definition of slander. See, Kanye's actions are legitimately douchey, whereas Trump's are not racist. Those who are against him lie about what he actually said or manipulate it to make it seem far more ridiculous than it actually was. That's slander. Just like on BHR, you're being spoonfed again.

marlon brando (renowned theater and film actor), miles davis (perhaps the greatest jazz musician of all time) and lou reed (pioneer of rock music, innovator & experimental artist) are best described as "mainstream celebs"?? seems like that's really writing off their achievements

By definition, these artists were or are mainstream. (the Beatles certainly are) This is not to disregard or belittle their achievements at all, rather to shed light on the fact that they are quite popular and well known. Not by me obviously, but holy f*ck you people are picky. That whole paragraph and the biggest grievance you share is that I called them mainstream?

complete misinterpretation, if the "mainstream" part was what i was taking issue with that would hurt my point, no?

i just think it's funny that you characterized them as "mainstream celebs" since when i think of those people that's about the last thing i would say about them.

also, within the context of the sentence "Since when is not being fluent in the knowledge of every mainstream celeb in existence synonymous to lacking in culture?" it certainly does seem to minimize their accomplishments -- i would say lacking knowledge of cultural icons is synonymous with lacking in culture

and with respect to your closing comments & "you people" i'm just taking issue with that one thing since it's what i brought up before, if you want though i'll gladly get involved in a stupid argument about whose subjective opinion about kanye west is the best one

What's laughable to me is that you care so much. Calling Kanye a douche only makes him more famous. And no, I'm not saying that you think Kanye is the only douche celeb, I'm saying that you're forgetting that a lot of the greatest artists have flawed personalities. I wouldn't say I'm a perfect member of this community, but that shouldn't take away from my personal achievements in the game itself.

It does hurt your point. My response completely tore down what you said, 100%, assuming we're arguing objectivity; it says nothing about their accomplishments to call them mainstream, rather appeals to their popularity and influence. That is fact. You disagreed with me calling them mainstream, I proved to you that they DO in fact fit under that category either in the past or presently. I couldn't care less if that's what you'd say about them, it's what they are or were. If you have a response in relation to this objective point I've made, speak up. Otherwise, move on to another piece of rhetoric, please.

No, that's lacking in knowledge of culture. One could simply know more about culture than you and provide the same narrative you two are doing to me by claiming I am lacking in culture. How far does the goalpost move before you are considered "cultured"? Who accepted you as the arbiter of culture? What gives you the power to lay this arbitrary line?

I'm actually trying to argue as objectively as possible, hence my return to definitions. You have said I'm subjectively lacking in culture. Who's really straying from the facts here?

Already responded to that by saying that he's particularly bad whereas the others are more subtle in their douchebaggery. The others have seemed to know their limits or, also like I've already said, waited until they had the proper platform rather than stealing someone else's. Fine, who cares, it's not like me never uttering his name again is suddenly going to make him disappear from the limelight. Him and his disproportionately sized wife will be in the media until their ultimate demise. They're immortalized as the epitome of modern age infamy. And I love to hate them.

Of course not, but I personally can't see the genius in Kanye's music whereas I actually enjoy your tracks.

Since you apparently had trouble reading my response, I'll spell it out for you: I did not disagree with you calling them mainstream, in fact I acknowledged that doing so would be idiotic. Read my response again. Insisting that I'm making a point that I'm not does not make your argument stronger. Props for completely ignoring my actual thoughts in favor of boasting about how you "completely tore down" (lol) an argument I didn't even make, though. I guess it's a lot easier to debate when you get to decide your opponents' positions :)

Furthermore, "cultured" is a subjective definition, of course what I'm saying isn't an absolute fact -- you aren't enlightening anyone there. Saying "well, can anyone be cultured if there is no objective basis for being cultured" is not a good case for you being cultured. Anyway, if one were to try to create an objective test for culture, I imagine knowledge of the titans at its forefront would be a pretty good place to start.
