This is a thread to discuss music, songs, artists, bands, etc. But please keep it in a mature manner. Don't spam different songs to this thread trying to get people to see them or anything like that. Please refrain using this to excessively advertise your own music (reasonably is okay). In addition, do not be harsh and demeaning towards other users for their taste in music. Be nice, not rude, and respect the opinions of others.

Feel free to discuss genres and different styles of music, if you write music personally, or your reasons for listening to different music. This is also a place to discover new interests, and if another user does suggest a song, check it out, you might just find you like it.

I for one prefer more punk, heavier rock, a bit of soft rock (depends), and alternative music. My sister describes it as angsty, which isn't completely wrong. I don't have a true favorite band, but a list of them would include Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Shinedown, Bring me the Horizon, All American Rejects, Fallout Boy, Linkin Park, Simple Plan, and Blink-182.

Famous Last Words by MCR, Welcome to my Life by Simple Plan, and You're Gonna Go Far Kid by All American Rejects are probably my three favorite songs right now.

I also write some of my own music, more of the punk rock style. I am great with lyrics, but suck at instrumentals seeing as I can't play any instruments. I'm going to learn piano this spring and see where I go from there, but for now I am working out instrumentals slowly and painfully using computer programs like soundtrap and soundation (rip)

music at this point (for me) is a way to escape from the chaos that is my life. now, i'm not gonna go into personal detail, but i will say that certain bands have lifted me out of dark places. these bands are groups like Rush, Queen, Guns 'n' Roses, etc. they've gotten me through plenty of stuff and are just all around great to listen to, and i'd definitely suggest trying them if anyone reading this hasn't given them a chance or two. enjoy looking (listening, rather) through the stuff i love listening to
lemme just list a few bands w/ songs that make me feel good - the 'feel good happy jams'
    'Feel Good Happy Jams' (open)
Rush - Fly by night, 2112, Finding My Way, Something from nothing, Limelight, and everything else, these are my favorites
G'n'R - November Rain, Live and Let Die, Sweet Child o' Mine, Don't Cry, Paradise City
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Me Now, You're My Best Friend, and anything off of 'Greatest Hits I'
Foo Fighters - Saint Cecelia, Everlong, The Best of You, Monkey Wrench
Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song, Plush, Kitchenware & Candybars, and anything off of 'Thank You', 'No. 4', or 'Core'
Sublime - What I Got, Santeria, Ball and Chain, and Badfish
Pink Floyd - Lost for Words, Dogs, Wish You Were Here
The Who - Who are You, Pinball Wizard, Behind Blue Eyes
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Anything and everything through and passed 'Blood Sex Sugar Magic'
Pearl Jam - Only really got into the album 'Ten' - Evenflow and Alive were my two favorites
Plenty more bands could be listed, but i'm too lazy, so I'll just link my Spotify Playlist sooner or later

bands with only 1-3 songs i like:
    the 'One Offs' (open)

Asia - Heat of the Moment
Whitesnake - Here I go Again, Take Me Home Tonight
38 Special - Hold On Loosely
The Doobie Brothers - Listen to the Music
Electric Light Orchestra (might get into them a bit more) - Mr. Bluesky
    Van Halen - Panama

and now for the stuff i don't listen to as much or at all
    Outgrown/Moved away (open)
Green Day - I f***ing loved American Idiot and Kerplunk
Blink 182 - Enema of the State was a fantastic album, as was California
Rise Against - Never got too into them, but they were there

i'll update this later, but i haven't any time rn
also, i hope this won't become a thread with a bunch of meme songs and sh*t; it'd be cool to have a completely untarnished music thread (not sayin memes r bad, jus sayn that there's a time and place)

No one expects you to share the personal details of your life, and I think in that regard a lot of us can relate. I for one feel the same way. A lot of My Chemical Romance's Songs hit me hard in a good way, and brought me out of some rough times too. Even single lyrics can mean so much, and just two lines are enough to bring me to tears at times.

Examples of such important lyrics for me are lines such as:
    - "The hardest part of living is just taking breath to stay" from Miserable at Best by Mayday Parade
    - "Mama, we all go to hell" from Mama by MCR
    - "I won't let you choke on the noose around your neck" from The Cave by Mumford and Sons
    - "I am not afraid to walk this world alone" from Famous Last Words by MCR
    - The entire intro to Welcome to the Black Parade by MCR

Also, I grew up listening to queen, and guns n' roses cause my dad loves them. I always liked them, but have grown away from them the older I get. Queen is one hell of a band, and Freddie Mercury is in my opinion one of the most talented men to have ever lived.

In my opinion, the best genre of music is static.

Some of the greatest lyrics lie in that genre, like "KKKKKKKKKKKHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH". Brings out the emotion in me every time.

It's funny because everyone knows Billy Joel is primarily a static artist.
