Official Author Lounge

This thread is to have a conversation relevant to the game without being interrupted by spam. Although, some officials have been known to spam, and if they choose to spam here they will be swiftly reported. The lounge will be regularly updated to bring up important forum and database topics.

Current orders of the lounge:
-Everybody welcome m.m.i to the database and congratulate him on his near automatic official author status
-Discuss the possibility of a "notable" tracks section and who will have the responsibility of choosing said tracks and how it shall be done
-Large WIPs and collabs may be discussed, save the smaller and less important works for a WIP thread

 

Welcome to the forum m.m.i For those unaware mmi has played and made very high quality tracks for a very long time and he has frequently collaborated with me. Out of the 6(?) tracks we've created two have been featured, shouldve been 3 imo, but thats to rest. Anyways, a lot of the younger members need to play his tracks, they are quite inspirational, original and different than tracks today.

I agree with the idea of a notable tracks section. I stand firm that I believe the team should be larger and include the feature mods. And that a singular team member can put a track on this list. That being said, to keep team members from just featuring their friends tracks I believe a trusted group of members should be the first team. Here is who I nominate:

My WIPs currently are my huge track, "Ultimate". It is 60k in track alone. Also, I am working on co3 with mmi and wheeliemaker. Potentially an insta-feature.

I agree with the idea of the Notable tracks section, although im not too sure what makes a track "Notable". My first thought was tracks that were considered to be featured, but knocked back after discussion. But from the opinions and thoughts of others, im not too sure if thats what people want. What do you think it should mean?

Also, on the WIP area im gonna ask for some advice in a different thread (Probs detailing thread), but ill give u guys a quick run down on the track. The track, "Unconquered Isles" is a track where you strive to be the first to ride on and conquer the unconquerable isles. The track currently stands at 46k, and is about a quarter done. The track is currently 10 seconds long, although i want it closer to 30 or 40. Its moderately hard, the beginning being the hardest so far. I have no clue when it'll be released atm, as i can only work on it a couple of days a week.

 

Just being at least inbetween the norm and featured tracks I presume. I have a better idea of what to look for in my head, but I dont have a better way to explain it, in words.

That seems like a cool idea. I always love tracks with an accompanying story. Work on it as long as you can, the return is always that much greater.

 

Lounge?

 

I have a massive wip in the works, if finished it will likely be the largest track on the database (in characters). However, when the contest is announced I will be dedicating all my freerider time to my entry, delaying progress on the project

 

My! This is a cozy lounge pssst . I have like a dozen WIPs but there are only two I feel are worth noting. The first is a trials, but it's different than the others. I try to make my tracks as lifelike as possible, ride-wise, so it has no boosts, gravities or nothing! As for detail, it's not to great at the moment but basically, your an amateur trials biker pulling stunts off of everyday things in a park in a city. It's not to hard, but really fun to play.
My second track is simple: Imagine you're mountain biking up in the mountains. I'll be honest, I've barely started. But I'm really excited for this one.

Notable tracks? I think it's a good idea. But 'recommend' sounds better to me. Who should choose them? I liked your list. Sounds good to me.

I love trials like that, I feel the addition of boosts, bombs and sometimes gravities make it more about luck than controlling the rider.

I think each individual on the notable team should be allowed to add track to the notable without consultant in the others. You have a lot of great names up there, but I don't agree with a few of them.

 

Question for the people in the lounge:
I'm currently working on a new track, the redbull straight line and I would like the users to choose out of three sets of engines, 50cc, 250cc and 450cc in the form of gravity upgrades with different settings to them. But i can't seem to place them in such a manner in which the player can actually choose one of these upgrades. Does anyone have a solution for this? The upgrade selector has to be small and right at the beginning so there is not much time wasted on picking one of them.
