Why are you so eager to follow the commandments, which are old testament rule, but refuse to follow all of the demonstrably horrible & contradictory rules listed throughout the old testament? Namely the passages that explicitly ask you to murder people, yet that contradicts one of God's golden rules.

Similar to the author of a book...that's actually a good comparison, because like an author, god created the timeline in which we will follow. "Thus he has no need to change your actions, because you're going to do exactly what he planned anyway." Exactly, good point against a loving god. You just told us that when a man rapes a child, he's doing exactly what god planned for him, and the victim as well. Good going, god. Very moral. The laws in the Old Testament were set forth by God as the rules the Hebrews needed to follow in order to be righteous, to atone for the sin of Adam and Eve and to be able to get into Heaven. That is also why they were required to make sacrifices, because it was part of the appeasement for original sin. So by many people who are Bible-thumping Christians who do follow the command of the old testament are basically saying that Jesus's death and resurrection was invalid and meant absolutely nothing, as Jesus died for us to not have to follow those rules. Hope that gives you a better understanding.

 

Matthew 5:17 - "Do not think I came to abolish the old law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them." Jesus disagrees with you, mr. Pancakes sir.

1 Corinthians 6:9 "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaoters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality"
Some could take that to mean being in a homosexual relationship. Three other things I would like to note about this:

1. This passage includes other forms of sexual immorality to be just as bad as homosexuality. I think it is sad that we tend to think of homosexuality of being "more wrong" then premerital sex, having an affair, etc
2. it says men who practice homosexuality. However, i do not think this excludes females. This is equivocation on the word men (In the text men is used to mean human, not male)
3. It says "that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God" if they do these things. Some people might then say "I have to earn my way to heaven, So screw it, I'm out". Verse 11 says this though: "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

It makes sense to me, Crypt . All the rules, commandments, regulations are there to show us that without Jesus Christ we will Never obtain salvation. Our works just don't cut it. The reason for the sacrifices is like Pancakes said. The shedding of blood is the only thing that can atone (lol that's a 'churchy' word but I can't think of a better one) us. When Jesus died he shed the blood once and for all for us.

Also, in ancient times the death penalty was still a thing. God was commanding the Israelites to:

• Destroy Evil nations around them
• Enact punishment (Example: If you've ever seen The Dark Knight Rises, I bet you think Bane deserved to die in the end)

About your questions about "predetermination" as it is called I will admit I don't have an answer for that. That is theology that the most devout and knowledgeable Christains have struggled with for centuries. I do know that even with this question, Christianity and Creation makes WAY more sense then some one throwing an encyclopedia, with every letter cut out, out of an airplane, and having it all the letters fit exactly right where they originally were when they land. Or throwing a bunch of silicone out of the plane and when it lands it creates a computer with all my complex information on it. It just won't happen.

While i agree with you, telling an atheist or even an agnostic this won't help them to become saved. It will probably do the oposite
