How to draw an almost perfect large Circle

WARING! This tutorial is for the dedicated!
People wanting a quick circle may be disappointed.

When I was working on my track (that I may not finish for a very long time), I decided that I wanted to add a drawing of the earth as a decoration, but I was having trouble drawing a good circle. This tutorial well help people in the future draw almost perfect large circles.

The first thing that comes to most people's mind when drawing a circle is this.

However, when you connect four of them together to make a circle, the circle doesn't look quite right.

When paired to a real circle, it becomes more obvious.

That's because these curves are not quarters of a circle but are Bézier curves which are parabolas. nin10dorox explains it Here.
The trick to creating a circle is to create a regular octagon.

The centers of each side are important too.

Lets start.
1.
First start creating the square that will circumscribe the circle.
The first step is to mark your center

Next draw a line from the center. This is also the radius of the circle. Use the grid to count the number of spaces as you will need this number later.

In this example the radius will be 46 spaces.

Use the grid to create a 45 degree angle. This will be the top right corner of your square.

Do the same thing for all sides. The grid is your friend here.

The diagonals are important.

This is were you use a bit a math.

Multiply your radius, in this case 46, by sqrt(2)/(2+sqrt(2)) for the exact number or .414 for a close enough approximate.
I got 19.05 but it's okay to round to 19 spaces.

Do the same for the top

Draw straight lines from the side and top to easily mark, in the case, 19 spaces, on each side.

Use the diagonal to help with the other sides.

After you mark everything, it should look like this.

Next, draw a diagonal from the, in this case, the 19 mark from earlier.

Continue with all sides.

You now have every point need to finally start making your circle.

You have finally created a regular octagon with the middle of each side marked.

Lets start making the circle!

Take curve tool and connect two centers together with the third point clicked on the vertex.

Do the same thing throughout the entire octagon.

Almost there. Now just erase all the guidelines from before.

As you can see, there is almost no difference.

The trick is to use a regular octagon meaning, every side is the same length. You also have to know where the center of each side is. If you can do it in an easier or faster way then great, just use steps 13 - 15 and you should be good. This is just the way I found works well.

I hoped this tutorial helped people make better circles. It should work for any large size, but I haven't tested it yet.

The only reason I say almost a perfect circle is because it technically is impossible to create a perfect circle using Bézier curves, but it is possible to create an almost exact approximation.

Make the images smaller so that people with weak internet connections, like me, can load them in a reasonable amount of time. There's no need to have images at 2000x1000 or 5000x2000 when a tenth or twentieth of that would work well enough, especially with how many images you have. Other than that, it looks like a creative way to make a circle. I'll be able to finish reading it when the images aren't twice the size of my laptop screen.

The images are direct screen shots from my laptop but I can change them.

 

I'm pretty sure at least one of the images was 5000x2000, that was a screen shot? But alright, looking forward to it.
