Hey guys and gals, we just had a brainstorm on what would make a good addition to Free Rider HD and we came out with this idea on tournaments. At a high level here is what we have right now: anyone can start a tournament on any track a tournament would cost a minimum number of coins for explanation sake let's say 500 a tournament would run for x-days, for now let's say 5 days there would be a new "Tournament" listing showing active tournaments the top 10 on the global leaderboard at the end of the tournament would receive rewards from tournament purse (percentages to be determined) Reasons why I am personally digging this feature: it officially brings into the game something players are already doing on the forum it appeals to both authors and players authors can use it to drive engagement on their tracks and get satisfaction out of seeing the best players go head to head players would get enjoyment out of hosting an event and recognition in sponsoring a tournament it allows players to create tournaments (Free Rider is a very social / player driven game this feature fits well with that) Things that would need to be thought through / possible additions: cool-off time before a track can be ran as a tournament again allowing players to continue to increase the purse size by donating coins (drive as many of the best FRHD players to that track as possible) last tournament results visible on the track page stats on top 10 placements / participation What are your thoughts?
Sounds like a lot of fun. I could see 400 tournaments running at the same time being a bit too much (making tournaments have a lot less competition that way) so maybe there should be a restriction on when a player can host one, but besides that I love it as well.
Definitely, tuning the cost of tournaments would help. Also, sorting by total winnings amount may help filter out some of the lower ones.
This sounds amazing. The current check point system actually fits this perfectly, it makes it a lot more competitive.
The normal CR's check point system and the current one could just be there at the same time, like two different colored flags. The current system is good for this kind of contests and the other one would be better in longer trial tracks for instance.
Or better yet, a waiting list of some sort. Say there is a list on the forum where u need to put ur name down and a date of when u want to release ur track for ur tournament. If u dont release it then the next person gets to release his/hers, etc. This would make lining up and stuff easier imo. Btw this is one of the sickest ideas out
but couldn't this become a pay to trend? Just up the coins for a tournament for your track and you will end up trending.
I don't like it, Eric 1 - Millions of tournaments running at the exact same time! 2 - Spam tournaments that are for useless tracks! 3 - It introduces very easy ways to make your stupid and useless tracks at the top of the trending page! A better solution would be contests! Instead of contests just being on the forums, they should be on the whole frhd website! You can set the rules, like no already made tracks, and so on! And, how about collabs and racing in real time? You can use TogetherJS, have you heard about it? And when I upload a collab only my name is there on the author title! Could you fix it please?
for your 1st argument, they said there will probably be a limit, for your second argument, limit of number of tournaments someone can do, and why would someone enter a tournament to a bad track? For your 3rd argument, I agree, but not necessarily, basically what i said for number 2
