You can copy inputs in the middle of the ghost if there's a vehicle powerup, since once you touch that your momentum and position are set to a fixed state. I do auto cuts where I end an auto the exact same as intended after finding cuts before touching the vehicle all the time.
I was’t specific enough, it’s impossible to copy inputs in the middle of a fast ghost. Copying inputs has really only been used in fast ghosts.
It's really not easy to replicate inputs to the 1/30th of a second anyway. If you can do that without TAS or anything, then I think it should be fair game. I'd argue it's easier to just find your own string of inputs that gets you a faster ghost from the very start.
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/57072-generation/r/tetrationiscool stolen from me crazy ghost dude, i hope you'll make more of these 246
I think TPlacella should answer to that post again and not focus as much on the tracing comparison. It was silly, but everything else in a_drain's post is fair. I don't think its a fair argument to say that copying inputs is hard and not used widely, when there are now multiple featured ghosts that rely on copying other person's inputs at the start.
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/53393-snags/r/tetrationiscool stolen from me another sick cut, very nice 245
And how many different users on those featured ghosts copy inputs at the start to win? If only like 5 or less people have achieved a featured ghost that way, then that's by definition not being widely used and difficult to pull off. Because that would mean less than 0.01% of the total playerbase has proven themselves able to achieve that.
I’m saying that it’s not a fair argument to say that it should be allowed because its hard to do and not used widely. It should be discussed because it already has affected the featured ghosts list
I mean, this one already is in the other category: https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/167075-a-trip-to-the-woods/r/theft We could make a "Copied inputs category" but it would probably devalue those ghosts by a lot. I assume Cerasium would not be happy with that. Also considering your post didn't give a single reason for devaluing those ghosts and multiple reasons against it, I would assume you to be against it as well. And I personally think we should avoid excessive categories and devaluing the list as a whole. Everything I could gather from your post was - copying inputs can only be done by best players (hard to do) - copying inputs doesn't have such a big effect as it seems (only works at the start) - there are already tools that make it easier to copy inputs (tools are already public and community thinks they are cool) - is equivalent to copying parts of track by hand rather than tracing (idk) - it's not used widely and only has a small effect (most featured ghosts don't have a problem with copying inputs) and somehow you arrived at the conclusion that they don't deserve to be in the fast category, why?
To appease your opinion, as this has never been a large topic till now. Also, all vehicle glitch ghosts are put in the other category; not sure what you were talking about with Cerasium's ghost.
It copies my ghost on beemex. Putting those ghosts on other ghosts could work temporarily until we make a decision yes, but definitely not as a permanent solution
I'm glad I play the game without caring about getting my ghosts featured. I'd get so tired of having people steal my ghosts within 24 hours
https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/1019-egyptian-empire/r/tetrationiscool ok now take some of radium's feats
This is the end-game for spacebarring. I'm not sure why it took us this long to get here, but it's been obvious to me that it was always headed towards this. Given enough time and patience, any ghost could be copied frame-by-frame, to be made "perfect." I might call this method of "ghosting" Input Eugenics. I think the tracing comparison is valid, but I wouldn't worry about it too much since a ghost copied is a ghost tied. You could copy the top ghost all the way to the end and do some last second optimization to give yourself the edge, but I highly doubt anybody is going to be copying ghosts to the point where that becomes a problem. What worries me is that this can be used to make a TAS ghost legit. It wouldn't even be hard to do, assuming you have access to TAS or to an editor which allows you to timeline scrub. To achieve frame-by-frame spacebarring, simply remap your keys so you have two spacebar keys that you can butterfly click. You could even plug in two keyboards and do it that way if you don't want to fuss with any software. Then you just have two windows open, one with your TAS reference, and one with your "legit" ghost. I am quite sure Radium has done this on some of his ghosts, if he didn't use TAS outright. It isn't technically cheating, but I feel it undermines the game's integrity. It's a dishonest way to play.
