Using reference images is what I would recommend. The reason tracing is looked down upon is because it takes away from the skill of learning to draw and spending hours drawing a more realistic piece of art. The reason I draw is because I enjoy it. Not for the promise of a feature, contest, or cash prizes. Tracing is taking away that enjoyment. Tracing (imo) shows you don't really care for the enjoyment of drawing. You're doing it for likes, meaningless banners, and clout.

It also takes away from all the authors who dump their emotions, time, and energy into their art and tracks. It drives me crazy when people trace, because it's mindless creation and plagiarism.

When using a reference image, it's there for a reference. Not to copy. Use it to create something more realistic, but put your own twist on things, get creative and it will turn out better than the original image in many cases.

e; for instance, my pfp is a real image of me that I made from a reference image. It's not picture realistic, but it's damn close. It takes practice to do that. Drawing something free hand is 10x more rewarding than tracing

 

No yeah that seems totally valid. I’d rather have a skill then a shortcut, but was thinking about using a drawing to improve my art rather than to totally copy it. I think you’re right. Thanks!

RadiumRC I'm gutted to hear about this, but I believe that you are still a good person. You could possibly redeem yourself by posting an un-traced feat-worthy track? Although the proof is clear, I still support you, don't let everyone's hate bring you down and stop you from getting those frame perfect ghosts, the best solution is to probably own up to it and move on, leaving the past in the past.

Damnnnn, this sucks. A lot. When radium first started taking off (imo with rivulet and palladio's path, but most notably acquiescence and rain river ) I honestly grew pretty attatched to his detail and trackmaking. Ever since then I've been impressed with his tracks, and dissapointed with his interactions with the community as he continues to not really do much but act like all of this is a joke.

this really sucks. Especially that now he's been caught he most likely won't draw again is what I think. He'll probably only ghost or just leave altogether.

You can use tracing as a tool to learn but it becomes problematic when it gets passed off as your own abilities b/c it's deceiving. You're reaping some form of benefit/s from doing it and it compromises the integrity of feat. track list, contests, etc. Based on some of the examples provided, the line placements are just way too accurate. Even if you measured the proportions and tried transferring that onto whatever medium(in this case frhd editor) you would still get loads of discrepancies(angle of line, curvature, etc.). Tracing has happened before here and it's something that I feel happens in almost every art community. Best to move on from it since it's totally possible to draw well without it.
