Featured tracks are cool and all but I think it might look better and you might have more fun making it if instead of focusing on a feature focus on other goals you make yourself like type of detail, kb size, etc.

 

Features are fun to make lol

 

I'm not saying they aren't fun to make, I'm just saying don't have that as your only focus. That might make it more enjoyable. Not having a featured track mindset might make your drawing more expiremental, overall making it cooler

I'm not saying it's not nice to have a feature, and I'm not saying it's not fun to draw one. I'm just saying that setting other personal goals (having a feature could be one though) for a track could overall improve the outcome and your skill. The goal idea came from talking to spruce and about the "featured mindset" is just something i've heard over time, most prominently comes to mind is Eryp .

nah bro. it's all about perception. if something is perceived as being hard or time consuming to make, it's a feat, regardless of whether it actually was. this is why it's always important to exaggerate the effort put in.

The feature hyping for the coager dante collab will be at a level where you'll be able to stitch all the WIP images into the actual track before it's even out.

How is it? Do you like the detail in the gifts? I am working early because I just know someone is going to make a Christmas contest coming up.

 

references will be your absolute best friend! try and remember any christmas trees you've seen, all the different kinds of bows, ribbons, wrapping paper especially! lots of different textures are the hardest thing to pull off in this game. going on the old standard google images wouldn't hurt your idea making process either.

it also seems like you're keeping yourself restricted to a flat 2D plane with this so far. totally fine if that's how you're seeing things, but it might help to think about the space each box takes up. boxes can go in front of one another, behind, one half on top of,etc. christmas presents (at least in my own experience) always look like they're jumbled together, yet put in place. i usually sketch out how things look before i put any track or real set in stone lines to make sure things look correct when i get to later points, but everything is always up to you. it's a game, after all

 

I remember back when my only goal was to get a feat when I didn't have any, and when I didn't get a feat on the track I made it was quite upsetting. Definitely don't make getting a feat your only goal. I prefer creating enjoyable track experiences now, they seem to be worth more.
