Why You Shouldn't Spam

Hey everyone! This thread probably seems very hypocritical or pretentious coming from a member such as myself. (a notorious ex-spammer with probably over 1,000 spam messages) While I have spammed on multiple occasions, it's sad to see so many others doing the same, especially in the off-topic sub-forum. I've been with this community for a while now, and I would hate to see it become a spamming wasteland.

Nevertheless, we all learn our lesson eventually, and hopefully, some of you who do still spam will learn something from this thread.

With that being said, here's a list of reasons why you shouldn't spam.

1. It's annoying.

People come to the Free Rider forums to have conversations or ask questions to those with similar interests. A comment saying "ok" or "hahahaha" on a post about how to detail a track can get on people's nerves. People want replies that contribute to the topic at hand.

Doing this also makes it hard to read a thread, especially when half of the messages have nothing to do with the threads intended topic.

2. People will get angry.

This should go without saying, but people generally don't want to see spam messages on their threads. If you do post spam, people will probably not want to be friends with you, you may consider you a negative influence to the site.

You want to be on people's good side.

3. It's pointless.

There are quite a few reasons why one may spam on the forums. Perhaps they want to raise their post count, or maybe they are bored and want to troll. I used to do this. I did it multiple times in the past few years. Let me try to make this very clear: It's not worth it.

It may be fun to watch your post count go up, or see how your spam messages will cause discord in the forums. But it really isn't anything too exciting. Plus, nobody is going to praise your message count if all of your messages are spam. You will probably just end up getting muted or banned, which brings us to our next point...

4. IT'S AGAINST THE RULES!

Yup, this shouldn't really be a big surprise to anyone. Spamming is against the rules. Speaking from experience, I can tell you, moderators and administrators will mute or ban you if you act inappropriately or spam. Tips for helping to create a spam-free forum:

• Avoid making unnecessary one word responses such as "ok", "sure", etc. Use the like button instead.
• Avoid creating duplicate threads, or commenting on threads that have been inactive for years.
• If you see consistent spamming, report it to a moderator.
• Do not react to the spammer or correct their behavior yourself, this will only encourage them to do it more. Contact a moderator instead

Anyways, I hope this thread serves as a useful guide for anyone who has seen spammers recently or has been spamming themselves. Feel free to reply with your personal tips.
