    I really hope this isn’t a waste of time…

Ok, you all know the editor right? The thing you make tracks with? I hope so because you’re gonna (hopefully) learn a whole lot more about it.

This is Editor Tips and Tricks! A place is for me and you to tell everyone things about the editor. Just so you all know, most of this is not advice on how to make better drawings. If you want that then go away and find someone who’s actually good. You also don’t need to listen to any of this. I’m about as credible as Wikipedia. (That was for all of you who should be paying attention to class.) I’ll be separating these based on if they affect the player or the author. Anyway, I hope this is useful to somebody.

Section #1 Stuff That Effects the Player

Tip #1 Use Curved Scenery Lines to Draw Curved Straight Lines

Some people don’t like it when you use the curve tool for physics lines. To please those people, just draw curves with scenery lines. You can then draw over them with long physics lines.

Tip #2 Don’t Let Lines Overlap.

People don’t like it when you let your lines overlap. Unless it obviously goes with the style then fix overlapping lines like this.

    upload_2021-10-15_21-47-36.png

Tip #3 Smoothen Out Your Ramps

A lot of times it can be annoying to crash or slow down because of a rough ramp. Unless it goes against the theme I recommend taking some time to smoothen out your ramps.

    Instead of looking like this.
    upload_2021-10-15_21-48-2.png

    Ramps should look like this.
    upload_2021-10-15_21-48-15.png

Section #2 Stuff that affects the author

    Tip #1 Polygon’s mod.

I cannot stress enough how helpful this mod is. Go get it. Right now. (If you want) Mod here Thread here If you listened to me and got the mod, then you now have access to a bunch of cool extra features. My personal favorite is the ability to snap your lines to 15-degree angles. You should also go to the thread for a full list of all the features.

    upload_2021-10-15_21-50-28.png
    Nice

Tip #2 Right Click Camera Move

This option is kinda the best. It has the same effect as the camera but when you right-click. You wanna draw a line eight times the length of your screen? Now you can!

    Tip #3 Hotkeys

There’s a button that says hotkeys at the top of the screen. (Right next to publish and controls.) Click it and you get a list of super helpful hotkeys! C to swap to the camera, Q to draw straight lines, W to draw curves, and so on. Memorizing these will save you TONS of time.

    upload_2021-10-15_21-52-56.png

    Tip #4 Camera Lock

Trying to draw a line towards the edge of the screen and it keeps on moving? Camera lock is the solution. Enabling it will stop the camera from moving automatically.

    upload_2021-10-15_21-53-34.png

    Bonus tip!

Pairing Camera Lock with Right Click Camera Move is super useful. Ultimate duo.

    #5 Exporting Often

Ever been working on a track for a while and you accidentally close the tab? It kinda sucks to lose all that progress right? Just export every ten minutes. If your tab closes then you lose ten minutes of progress at most. That totally beats losing an hour.

Tip #6 Alternating Between Grid and No Grid
(Can’t believe I used a title capitalization tool for that...)

Unless it goes against the theme, try switching the grid on and off for different things. Drawing a bunch of boxes? Use the grid. (Or in my case failing to make a good grid only track. *cough* thelab *cough*) If you’re drawing something really detailed or super small then don’t use the grid.

Tip #7 Keep Your Cursor in Place

This one isn’t super necessary but I’m gonna put it here anyway. Have you ever found your cursor in a position you don’t want to lose? Just right and left click at the same time. (You have to have a mouse and be using the Camera.) Wherever you move your cursor the track will follow.

Tip 3 #8 Zoom In and Zoom Out
Click the search bar and type Ctrl+. This will make all the buttons and icons bigger. Then zoom in in the editor. After that click the magnifying glass and then reset. It'll be zoomed in extra.
*note* I've only tested this on chrome.
*second note* This is a little tricky.

If you’ve made it this far then hopefully you found this helpful. Or you just skipped to the bottom. (For the sake of the time I spent on this I hope it was the former.)

If you have any tips or tricks you would like to share feel free to post them in this thread. (I’ll credit you.) You can also tell me if you spot any mistakes. I’m sure there are at least eighty. (Grammar mistakes, false facts, stuff like that.)

This is one final reminder that I am a random thirteen-year-old stranger on the internet. You aren’t required to listen to any of this. This whole thread is one huge suggestion.

    This is the last sentence.

I think Tip #2 can be replaced by holding shift.

It can. The thing is that it still places lines. Right Click Camera Move doesn't.

Number 8 is kinda tricky, but if you learn how to do it then it's super useful.

because curve tool, when making curves, uses so many little straight lines which all conflict with the physics of the rider and can cause things like unnessesary acceleration and slipping/falling over. this is especially a problem when making tubes, as the player needs to be super precise and if there are slippy lines at every turn, it gets annoying to play and requires more control, which may not always be that easy, like when adjusting after a down tube like this:

(track is https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/848413-tubey-tube by me, you can see where i traced with line tool)

    great list btw!

Yes, although having a stylus is a big advantage. I tried editing on a computer once, it was 10x slower than my regular trackmaking pipeline

Having a stylus makes things fo a lor faster. Yesterday I got an app that let me sync my ipad screen to my pc. Sadly it registers the inputs at finger inputs. (Which don’t work for some reason.)
