Animal testing, suppression, experimentation has been going on since Cain killed Abel. Some are used in the medical field for studies or testing of vaccines cough covid cough. We could use actual humans to experiment on if we wanted (Live testing (experimentation on a large population) can fail, lead to mass murder or outbreak). The animals cannot revolt against us nor both sides can communicate with each other. Therefore one will suppress the other.

People do overuse and abuse them. Though I can't say otherwise. I never had a pet before.

 

in all seriousness I'd say the more intelligent a species is, the more rights it should be given, and the more important it would be for testing labs using that species to be governed by some sort of ethics committee. Another huge factor in the debate is just exactly what experiments are being performed on/with the animals. I'd imagine the more seriously inhumane tests should be deliberated over heavily before being put into practice. Sometimes though, there do sadly exist no other effective options than to go ahead with the plan.

I, too, much prefer human testing. A fantastic alternative to make medicine and cosmetics cheaper and more ethical, I'm sure!

Maybe we could use the prison population to fuel human testing if need be.

jokes aside tho, why does the intelligence of any given species matter as to how much rights it deserves? why not their likeness to humans (how their bodies react to **** in general)? surely thats a more important factor in this equation if the result is to get accurate results.


edit: why do you consider intelligence to be the decisive factor in an animals (or in this instance, a species') inherent moral value?
