I disagree with this entirely, you can do hardly any detail with 50k
id say 300-500k would be a good maximum for future contests, or just not have any maximum because its a silly idea to limit creativity

 

300 KB - 500 KB is huge.

 

that is what I am saying, the veterans (like you) don't have that much space to detail and so either you add less detail or you keep the detail with a real short track. The beginners will most likely use minimal detail but still will meet the requirements.
the 2nd thing I said (you can either make a really long not detailed track or a short detailed track) will not make sense with 300KB because almost all the tracks will be 1mins+ and it will drive away the beginners.

EthMan To what everyone else is saying, maybe make the track size a little bigger for next time? I love a good challenge but 55k is just way too small. Some of my layout's are that size

 

Maybe just don't make a huge track.

 

That being said. I'm excited to participate. Question though. What if I were to just make a massive track like what blank guy was wanting and just take the penalty. Would that be able to score high?
