I'm a huge fan of Percy Jackson and the universe that comes along with it. At this point I think it's like a 21 book series which is cool to see the dedication the author has to milking the series. To call Percy Jackson the best book series though? Obviously it comes down to the preference of the reader, but I can think of a couple series that I think stand out more and are better than it. Personally I think the Gone series by Michael Grant is better, It includes the same things that I believe make people like the Percy Jackson as much they do.
      - Kids and teenagers with supernatural abilities mixed into a modern setting.
      - Characters developed well over the course of multiple books.
      - Life and death situations that force people to think on their feet and come to solutions.
The reason I think it's better is because it's targeted to an older audience and have the room to brutally kill off characters and provide more serious problems. Also the Percy Jackson series was re-using the same layout in every book after Son of Neptune which kinda made me lose interest faster.
Either way both series have differences and are both good in their own way.

I've never read the Percy Jackson series, so I wouldn't know how good it is, but I support Harry Potter to be one of the best series ever written. JK Rowling's portrayal of all the characters and the ingenuity of the characters is amazing. No series has ever put such an impact on a reader; it really feels like you're there in the story, rooting for the heroes and egging them until the last page.
