List Official Featured Ghosts

that particular ghost is featured because of its historical significance as the first feat ghost, not so much as a trick ghost. it wouldnt be downgrading so much as it would be moving it to a category that fits the reasoning behind its feature better. if anything itd get more recognition as a great ghost because of its unique standing within the ghosting community

That's very fair. I get what you are saying, but probably there wouldn't be too many ghosts on this new "category".

As far as I know, I think that there would be like only like 2-4 ghosts on that category right now, so it probably wouldn't affect the list overall too much. It's not exactly like the "Featured Fast Ghost with Tricks" category that some people hated a while ago where many ghosts that weren't good enough for trickghosts or fast ghosts could be placed there. It's more like an outlet for very iconic ghosts that don't exactly fit the categories we have now to be featured.

Some examples I can think of would be your ghost on 3D Bathroom that was iconic and one of the ghosts that pushed the original thread into existence, since it was not only a great ghost with great tricks (although not fully a trickghost), but the first ghost on that track in this game, haha. Many people had tried the track over the years and failed, and you just did that ghost, that is a legendary one. Couldn't be made with more style. Should still be featured.

Another example would be DblU's non-spacebarred run on Magnum Opus. It's one of the 3 features that remained with their original "owners" since the original thread (other being your feature and unspoken's). It's an insane effort and an iconic ghost for 4+ years (and it was even improved like 2 times). Might be worthy to stay on the list.

Another one I could think of was Anonyymi's "trickghost" that is already featured but isn't a full trickghost. The guy still has 1st place doing tricks half of the time on a track that isn't that easy, haha. So disrespectful and iconic.

And the other one was spruce's ghost on Skeleton Sea. It's probably the best ghost from spruce in my opinion, a really solid run on the track. Unfortunately for him, a cut was found in the track and some people beat him and took his feature (which is a legit effort), but it doesn't take the merits from spruce's original ghost. If the ghost was made after the cut was found, we probably wouldn't look at it in the same way, but since it was actually featured before we know it was a solid ghost. Maybe deserves a chance on the list again, as well.

But yeah, we don't want to make it easier to get features. But this is supposed to be a list with the best ghosts in the game, and we have 4 defined categories for them. But if there's a really solid ghost that is good enough to be featured in some way, but might not exactly fit the criteria, maybe we should be open to it. We don't have a final decision yet, but that could be a good idea to be developed.

 

yeah to piggyback off of what totoca said too we want to introduce this category for ghosts that don't currently fit the current definition. the "other" category would in theory be there to help recognize ghosts that don't fit under current categories and would be rewarding people's efforts that aren't currently rewarded under this system. take spruce's ghost on skeleton sea again as an example; he clearly spent a ton of time getting a deathless run, but because a cut was discovered on the track it was no longer the fastest ghost, and it obv didn't meet any of the other categories. it's still a very good ghost despite that, and with this category we can feature it. like totoca mentioned this'd only affect a few ghosts, namely yours on 3d bathroom, the spruce ghost, and maybe dblu's on magnum opus. the goal of this is to therefore make these ghosting achievements more accessible than to make them easier to get, if that makes sense
the biggest impact i can see this particular change making is allowing us to feature ghosts like spruce's that beat a track without cuts but because of those cuts are no longer the fastest ghost. for a comparison you can look to speedrunning sites w different categories for different kinds of runs; a 70 star mario 64 speedrun is a separate category than the 120 star even though they're speedruns of the same game. we'll have to deal w that on a track-by-track basis and decide what gets featured and what doesn't and why one ghost will count as a cut ghost while another won't, but i can really only see that becoming an issue for large tracks with massive cuts like skeleton sea and magnum opus anyways

Yeah, no problem. The idea here isn't to lower the bar, just include some "lost gems" of the ghosting community. We don't know the full extent of this "category" yet, but I feel like it won't have too many ghosts to become an issue.
