If you're a cop in America, you're either actively engaging in racism and police brutality, complicit to the incredibly ****** up system of police unions, militarization, and rampant racism that allows police brutality to happen without consequence, or you've been fired for speaking out against it. So yeah, I'm sure there's exceptions out there with sheriffs that just want to protect their community, but calling cops in general trash is fair

 

anyways back to our originally scheduled programming

 

1)
imagine being a cop in a situation like that, where youre on your toes, been chasing a suspect high speed for a while, they stop and come out with their hands not visible. theyre showing no sign of giving up so youre stuck there pointing your gun at them and yelling "show me your hands, let me see your hands, get your hand out of your pockets" etc all that what we always see.
then the guy yanks his hand out of his pocked/waisband and say he has a vape in his hand, with the inhaley part pointing out in a shooty shoot pew pew gesture such as this


what do you do? after all, hes unarmed

2)
some dude and his friend rob some other dude with a handgun and u get called to the scene, the victim saw the gun upclose and could tell that its real.
youre the cop and are called to the scene, adrenaline is pumping through your body more than ever.
you find the guys, stop them, they comply, so far so good.
you question them a bit, tell them they match a description for robbery because youre a racist piece of **** in a blue uniform, and they say "we didnt touch him" (wtf are these guys stupid, you think)
and tell them that youre waiting for backup because you need to search them for a gun. *one of the suspects looks at the other nervously the moment you say gun and then looks back*
bingo, body language gave them away you think.
now, your backup is about to put his hands on the suspects waistband who the other suspect looked at (guy you think has a gun because the other dude looked) and he takes off running with the pover of 1000 usain bolts.

you draw your gun and yell at him to stop, but you think you see him reaching for his waist

what do you do? i mean hes running away and cant possibly pose a threat to you!!!! HES ESCAPING JUSTICE LET HIM GO

you are detainig a dude and you have your knee on his neck for nearly 9 minutes what do you do

edit: 99% of these viral "racist" police shootings are 2 minute clips of much longer standoffs/situations, that ignore all that has happened prior and how they got there. (plus people like burning their neighborhoods before they even get the facts in, in form of body camera footage or police report, most probably havent seen what theyre "protesting" for in smaller riots)



if theyre trash to you, would you rather not have them? see how that turned out in seattle.


edit2: since freddyspaghetti is not responsive, i cant for the life of me remember the 1st case but i think the dude was white and they still shot him, unarmed white man shot, no problems here.
i think the shooting was justified as the cop cpuldnt possibly have known that he did not pull a handgun on him. but hey thats just me

case 2 - they burned a city for this innocent young man who happened to be guilty. Had almost shot one guy already and was running from cops reaching for a gun again. and as for his friend, complied with the cops and survived, he was black too, why didnt they just execute him??????????? i thought theyre racist!!!


seriously sickening that someone can think this lowly of another whole group of people, even if its just an occupation. like do you seriously think that every cop that is still working just wakes up in the morning and thinks "ahhh time to get them naggggers" and thats why they work as cops? ******* none of them want to kill anyone ffs, its already hard enough for them to have to do that, let alone all the consequences.
or is it more likely that they want to keep their surroundings in order? do you think someone motivated purely by racism would engage in a gunfight with the vegas shooter, afterall, im sure the black people in that situation were in the crowd. these people want to help stop making it so ******* hard. black people ate 2.5 times as likely to be killed by cops and thats because of their anti-cop culture thats brainwashed them not to do anything a cop tells them to, and no you wont be killed for purely not complying. you gotta look like a danger.

 

1) this is a niche hypothetical which doesn't characterize the majority of police violence. Regardless, police have a civic duty to be able to differentiate a vape and a gun despite how seemingly difficult it may be.
2) police do NOT stop crime. After a theft occurs, whether the culprit escapes or not doesn't reduce their criminality. It is not the role of police to detain a criminal on site, especially since that seems to be a risk to officers.
3) defund the police means allocating police budgets to social programs and social workers, who are better equipped to de-escalate situations. Not to mention, social work is proven to be more effective in reducing crime than policing. you're finnish aren't you? I would've expected you to know that.

 

police are people too, maybe once we get superhuman robotics to enforce the law they can differenciate between the barrel of a gun and a chrome circle in 0.2 seconds in a dim lit environment.

its baffling to me the standards these people are kept. ***** sake theyre cops because they want to help, please get it thru your heads

so they shouldve let the dude go?
the dude who just performed armed robbery with a handgun?
too many times theyve been hesitant to stop people like this and they tend to take hostages, id rather not take that risk.

yea im Finnish, here in Finland police departments can all afford less-than-lethal means, unlike in the US, here in Finland police school lasts 3 years, not 3 weeks, here in Finland we dont have a police hating culture and we are taught to do what they say not to escalate situations, here in Finland the police fire on average only 10 rounds a year with intent to disable a threat to innocent lives.
and its the police who do the de-escalating of for example someone barricading themselves into an apartment and shooting at people from there.

Guess what would happen to you in either situation i mentioned above, if it were to happen here?

youd get shot if you pointed a handgun at an officer or a civilian, or if you were running from the cops while carrying a handgun.

plus the cops over there very rarely are the ones escalating the situation. you just see the 50sec clip when its already hit the fan

edit2: ok how abotut a 4th example?

so suppose youre a cop and youre called to the scene of a dude in a wheelchair with a self inflicted gunshot wound (first off what would u do here).
you arrive to the scene and tell the dude in the wheelchair to lift his hands (you know the hands up dont shoot thing ) a million times and then he puts his hand into his waistband and starts pulling something out, what do you do?
